How's this for a UPRA flag? Top blue stripe represents blue skies, the green represents fertile soil and the bottom blue stripe represents the sea. The Starry Plough is a socialist symbol in Ireland and I figured that it was the most suitable symbol for agrarian socialists. The votes have gone as follows: 1. Our country has grown from the ruins of the old order. What events from that glorious past of oppression do we still celebrate? B. The Battle of Schwarzaughen of 1242, when our burghers and peasants defeated the brutal invasion of our eternal enemy, Vakan, and threw them out of the country they bled white for so long. - 18 votes Not a very close vote, although Expeditions of Radetzky had a strong early lead. I did not anticipate A to do well, but I thought D would do much better. In any case, we have established a number of things: we are proud of our past victories in the field, we preserve our past and through it our national identity, so we are not strong internationalists, and there is widespread animosity towards Vakan. 2. What is the most symbolic moment of our glorious Revolution? B. The Rebellion of Battlecruiser Simonides (frequently called a battleship by clueless morons whom we need to pedantically correct). - 11 votes An extremely close race. The two frontrunners were only three votes ahead of the third place winner. Curiously, the same number of people voted to break with recent past as did to break with the distant past. Nevertheless, The Rebellion of Battlecruiser Simonides wins, because it got to 11 votes first. This means we will begin the game with the UPRAS Simonides available to us. A vessel treasured much more as a symbol of the past than a modern weapon of war, it is nevertheless one of the largest units of our navy, otherwise ruined by counter-revolutionaries. 3. Which is the dominant faction in the Congress? B. The Bureaucrats. - 15 votes 4. Which faction is the weakest? A. The Farmer's Communes. - 16 votes These two votes determine the political layout of the Congress at the start of the campaign. This will not have any immediate impact, but will inform events and plot lines. With the Bureaucrats ascendant, the administration flourishes, but more and more rules and regulations are introduced, and strict adherence to those is the name of the game. The Bureaucrat faction is quickly going to butt heads with the First Consul, whom they view as an example of executive overreach and a breach in the order things ought to be resolved in the Republic. Meanwhile, the weakness of the Farmer's Communes likely stems from a lack of care and understanding of the problems of agriculture - and with the faction appointed as the Congress's whipping boy, this is unlikely to change. The effects this may have on the food supply in Almain or the process of farm collectivisation may be very far-reaching indeed. 5. Choose the form of the destructor. C. - 15 votes Remember this face. It will show up again. 6. During and after the war and revolution, many people left the country. This was especially true for skilled specialists, as many of them were well-off and feared revolutionary retribution, and besides, whatever their reason, they had the means to leave. But a group amongst them stayed in larger numbers than others. Who? D. Expert engineers and technicians. - 19 votes This was the most lopsided vote of them all. Our universities and learning institutions have been gutted by the flight of skilled and talented professors, while the officer corps in the People's Army and People's Navy are filled with people field promoted beyond their skill, lacking necessary education and having only rudimentary training. We have lost a lot of institutional knowledge, and there is widespread mistrust of those who used to serve the old regime. On the plus side, we do have engineers and technicians to steer our industry - but with much of it in ruins, we won't have much use for them for a while... 7. A group of counterrevolutionaries have formed a phony "government in exile." Who are they - and who harboured them? C. Admiral Fabianus Romano, now a warlord trying to carve bits of Awfulia into a sovereign country from which he could pester us. - 14 votes Duke Čermák was the frontrunner for quite a while, but eventually lost to Admiral Romano in a very close race. This establishes a threat to us existing in the midst of Aw-Fulia. We shall see if and how the situation develops. What happens now? For now, I continue preparing the maps. But do not worry, the world map has been coming around nicely. We have a list of countries, and it is final: The actual looks of the map are prone to change, but the list of countries is not, as is their general location. The final map, and the first actual story update, should appear in 48 hours. For now, I ask you to be patient and keep making amazing flags.

While of course our immediate neighbors are a cause for concern, we must remember that our true enemy is not a state but a class: The bourgeoise of all nations would see us and our revolution undone! But we cannot afford to take on the entire world at once; we must strike them at the heart of their decadence and power! We must build up the People's Navy and invade the spineless Lowtaxians!

I figured I'd pull out the flags people made in the Discord, so that everyone can talk about them. We are going to need plenty of flags, so it's never too early to look into it. I skipped the attributions to avoid putting the authors on the spot. If they want to, they can claim their designs. UPRA Wiabu

Good evening, comrades. The maps are here. Geographic features - this is the sparsest map. I've decided not to force myself to come up with names for every patch of grass on the map - at least until it becomes relevant for play. Countries Cities Plain terrain _____________________________ First graduating "general's class" of Michael Frahnze Staff Academy to enter service 10 November 1928 Yesterday in Besar, First Consul Schlierenmayer personally addressed the first graduates of the General Staff Officer's Course, a four-year military course instituted in the Michael Frahnze Staff Academy in order to solve the problem of chronic shortage of high-ranking officers in the People's Army and Navy. Schlierenmayer said that the alumni represent "the finest our armed forces can produce" and congratulated them on having received "the most forward-thinking, progressive military education in the world, unencumbered by old, pre-Materialist thinking." Tilda Van, chairman of the Congressional Armed Forces Committee, has said that "these courageous officers are now more than prepared to be breveted as Brigkoms, Divkoms, Korkoms, and even Arkoms, if need be." She also commented that this represents a major turning point: for the first time, the forces of progress have general officers that have received world-class education, but not served in the Imperial Army. The Editorial Board wishes to congratulate the First Consul, who spearheaded the campaign to create the GSOC, for helping reduce Army dependence on officers who served the old order and proving once more that there is no challenge too great for the proletariat to overcome. _____________________________ Flagchat remains open. Further announcements to come within the next 24 hours.

Grizzwold posted:Map question: is this planet a plane, a sphere, or a donut? i.e. does the map wrap not at all, just east-west, or in all directions? I believe the "actual" answer or close to it is that we're only fighting on 2-3 continents and the world is too big to have the map extend beyond the visible territory where we'll be fighting, so no wrap. No comments received on planet shape though.

Never mind all those fancy tanks and other contraptions, what we really need to focus on is horses. For the transport of men and equipment, they are clearly superior simply because they do not require oil-based fuel or spare parts! All they need is the grass growing on the roadside. What is the world's oil situation anyway? The oucome of WW2 was heavily influenced by the availability of oil, after all.
