I'm in the "Love the setting and story, but hate the combat" camp.

I really tried liking this game, but the combat was just WRONG to my poor little mind.

Oh, also, a tip to the LPer and to people reading along, use the Training Tent. Units who fall in battle during those mock battles don't actually get Injured, so you can use anybody you want with abandon, and while you don't get renown or items for training, the most important aspect of the Training Tent is that any kill you get in those mock battles do count for promoting your units. I didn't know this until the second game, but it changed everything about the way I used some units, like Egil for instance.

Hmmmm...

That's interesting. That would make leveling a fair bit more intuitive.

I still dislike a combat system that actively punishes you for killing enemies though (at least that's how it generally feels to me).

This LP got me to try the game again....

and wow, no wonder they try to take Egil away from you....

Get a +2 aggro item on him (I was lucky and got one in Hakon's chapter, which I gave to Fasolt so it would get over to the Skogr clan) and the game difficulty drops like a two-ton safe. Onef and Ekkil (even though he's evidently an ok dude) can go gently caress themselves.

I got to the final choice and stopped. Since you've chosen Alette I might pick Rook.

going to wait on getting the sequels though till they're on sale.

I went and got BS2 and I'm playing a Rook playthrough.

I get why Alette's ability is overpowered, but I REALLY like Rook's ability.

It fixes a good portion of the problems I have with the combat system.

Really hope they fix these issues soon. It's rather infuriating.

Good for him. :downs:

B1 - Stop the dredge, but attack as a complete unit

I take it back after some thought - have faith in Oddleif.

And, as you said splitting the party is bad.

So...my Rook game, I took the stone marker path. Glad I did so in hindsight.

I guess Eirik is never going to be his truly awesome bear summoning uber self, since evidently you only get his events on that path...

What a shame.

I have a feeling that the other option is going to result in a lot of death regardless.

This seems like a case of cultural misunderstanding. Once the horseborn realize that such behavior is not a good thing in this society they will be a boon.

Hopefully.

Petrus is a great unit. But I'm glad there's an achievement for using him, or I'd probably have skipped him for more familiar characters.

He looks like he's a Godsend for Rook (and Eirik/Eirik's bear), as Rook get's more powerful the more potential actions that can be taken in a row.

Less useful for Allete, but still a solid unit from the looks of it.

Also A - he's not wearing a helmet and he's not blue/yellow, so I'm going to assume he's a stand up guy who has our best intentions at heart (because they likely align with ours - ie keeping people from killing each other) and he's hopefully not prone to massive miscommunications.

Also, is the Fasolt deal a bug? I'm REALLY confused as to why he hates Allete/Rook even if they didn't blow up the bridge till Iver told the King to shut the hell up and deal with it.

A of course. We've allied with every willing dredge so far and it's turned out great....

I don't see that changing in the near future.

That and at this point it's pretty drat obvious that the dredge as a whole are not villains...just people trying to survive.

It's the individuals (like Bellower, with his overriding sense of vengeance) that are bad, just like everybody else.

Why would killing the serpent increase the supplies in Arberrang? Or make it easier for the menders to hold the protective sphere up? I'm not seeing it.

There's an achievement for doing it with only one zero, but yes, if your caravan is big enough you can get enough days to make it without returning to Arberrang at all.

I bet you miss out on story stuff for doing that though.

I'm actually shocked the plan still worked though.

My first thoughts when she said "let me do it" were "Lady, you're not even fully TRAINED, how would you have the skill and power to make a loving sun?!".

Everybody dies is a good way to come to a compromise on how iffy that plan should be.

I'm somewhat disappointed they didn't go for the extra gut punch of showing off a corrupted Iver and/or Skogr survivor.

You know, just to twist the knife at how lovely this ending was.

Or did the zombie-like corrupted disintegrate once the serpent achieved his goals....I guess?

Also, wouldn't Bolver still be around?

He’s quite good, and he was a staple of my Rook game.

But like all raiders, he runs into trouble toward the end of BS2 where he can’t do enough damage to be useful and can’t tank enough to defend properly.

...though maybe on normal difficulty he’ll hold his own...

TBF I was referring to the comment of him being in the "maximum rear end in a top hat" party.

There are FAR worse people than Ekkil in the game morality wise.

I've been playing the first/now in the second game again with him in the party this time and he's surprisingly kinda nice (though he does fit better with the ravens). Though losing Egil really does suck.

Combat wise, yeah he's kinda meh.
