My favorite part of Con Air is the "Homer falling down Springfield Gorge" level of combined punishment and slapstick that is reserved for John Malkovich, who gets slammed through several plate glass windows, dropped through multiple layers of electrical cables, and somehow lands on the ground with his head perfectly lined up to be crushed by a fake Las Vegas oil derrick. They might as well have had him bounce off like 20 saguaro cacti on the way down at that point

it said they was bitches

All j/o crystals are fragments of that original geode and when we charge ours up half the energy goes to him.

put that way, how lucky are we to live in a world where he and Werner Herzog made a 17-year-late non-sequel to a movie that neither of them had seen?

I understand the director of the original Bad Lieutenant was like "gently caress Werner Herzog, if I ever see him I'm gonna stomp his rear end". Werner (who had survived making not one, not two, but five movies with Klaus Kinski) basically responded with "that's a shame, if he ever wants to sit down over a bottle of whiskey and sort this out I'm game".

The other story I like from the set is supposedly how Nic Cage was asking Herzog who is this guy, what makes him tick, and Herzog supposedly saying don't worry about it, just be a pig. Your character is the joy of evil.

I saw Vampire’s Kiss for the first time last year and I absolutely hated it. Some of it could have been related to the circumstances surrounding it, but I didn’t enjoy it.

a friend of mine got bitten by an actual legit vampire and when we watched it he got real pissy and was like "you just shouldn't joke about some things" and "yeah great, making light of a serious problem".

so i can totally understand how unfortunate events could color your opinion of the movie. we watched it again after he'd been an undead creature of the night for a couple years and he literally howled with laughter because he'd just shapeshifted into the form of black wolf.

so maybe give it another try some time.

Why does Cage do all sorts of terrible/great accents? Con air is bad, Vampire's Kiss is really bad, but Peggy Sue Got Married takes the cake for sure.

Well, I wasn’t accosted by any undead, but we’d made a road trip down to Texas for a wedding that was ‘Nic Cage themed’. It turned out to be them showing Vampire’s Kiss followed by quickie vows.

I was dressed up like Ghost Rider.

oh, I read something about this. well not like read, it was probably a vox article or something
Hollywood "accents" are more geared toward being evocative and memorable than accurate– by the ways success is measured in Hollywood, it's more important to leave an impression than to actually sound french or whatever
apparently Leo worked really really hard on nailing his Sehth Efricehn accent for Blood Diamond, even hiring a dialect coach, but nobody gave a poo poo because an authentic South African accent sounds goofy as balls
vs, for instance, Anthony Hopkins' :airquote:Eastern European:airquote: accent for Hannibal Lecter, which sounds almost exactly like no human being on earth– it loving rules and everybody loves it and accepts it unquestioningly

and Cage... uh. yeah. Cage.

Not that I was really doubting before watching it but it made it abundantly clear nothing he's ever done is an accident.

Like what I love about Nic Cage is that every character he plays is batshit crazy, but they're all a different and unique kind of batshit crazy.

I like how he deliberately picks characters who go crazy to play because they're the only ones where he can act like the german expressionists did because only someone going through some kind of breakdown would act that way.
