Ever played Galaxy of Heroes? Marvel Strike Force? DC Legends? (DC Legends is blah, don’t bother).

Look familiar? Hey at least it’s pretty AND smart!

Well, add another one of these to your toilet games on your phone because now there’s Age of Magic and guess what? It’s very good!

Game Details

Pictured Above: A racon, a man with a 10 foot long ponytail and their merry band of idiots go up against a giant toxic crabfish to see who will command the spoils of the Earth.

Age of Magic is the new mobile turn-based fantasy game about lots of epic heroes, fighting on the remnants of an ancient magical world.

Assemble your own squad of 5 heroes to discover their stories through the Campaign mode, defeat other players in unforgettable PvP battles to become the best player of Arena or Tournament and demonstrate how skillful you are in the notorious Tomb of Horrors – a dark place easy to enter, but not likely to get out and MORE!

If you have played games like I mentioned above, you know the drill.

This game is BEAUTIFUL. And oddly enough, it has a very robust story. It has autoplay. It has speed up so you can roll fast through the content if you want to as well.

Clan and Discord

Our clan is called Kobolds. Once it fills up, we will make a second clan! And so on and so forth. Join it once you hit level 28.

Our discord is here: https://discord.gg/364rsdd

Scroll to the Age of Magic channel. Raids drop next patch so when they do, we will make tags for the clans. For now, tag yourself with !tag ageofmagic for all the news and happenings.

Heroes

There’s close to 70 Heroes in game. There’s Barbarians, Dwarves, KOBOLDS, Crabs, Racons, Crawfish, a bunny, you name it. It’s pretty funny actually. They’re designed very well and again, graphically awesome.

Quick Tip:

If you want to drop $5, buy the Bunny when he becomes available. His name is Lucky. He is a healer and he will carry you for a long time in the game.

You get one-time offers, all under $10 for any character in the game. You don’t need to buy those. You can farm anybody in this game. Take it from me, a whale, who has spent $30 on this game and am probably done for awhile because it’s enjoyable without spending the dollars.

Game Modes

🔶 __Campaign__

Campaign mode consists of acts and missions that develop the story.

There are seven acts in the original Age of Magic campaign.

Three of them are currently available. Acts V, VI and VII are under construction.

Energy is needed to complete missions in Campaign mode. Energy restores itself over time.

At the end of each mission you will earn rating of one, two or three stars. The number of stars depends on the number of heroes that survive the battle.

You can repeat missions you completed with three-star rating straight away by using Memory Spheres.

Victory in Campaign mode missions gives you the following rewards: Player Experience, Silver, Memory Spheres, Skill Cubes, Experience Potions, Items, Shards.

Campaigns can be run in normal or hard modes. You can proceed to the hard mode once you've completed all missions with three-star rating. Each mission of the hard mode can be completed no more than 5 times per day.

In normal mode, Shards are earned after completing a mission for the first time. In hard mode, you can complete the mission many times to earn Shards.

🔶 __Arena__
Arena is the mode where players can fight against other players to test their strength. You can also earn Crystals of power on Arena enabling you to make purchases in the Arena Market.

Each player has the opportunity to attack other players 5 times per day. You can only attack your enemy after a short waiting period. Once you have completed all attacks, your record will be displayed until next day.

Victorious players in the Arena will make it onto the Arena Leaderboard. Attacks can be instantly replenished for Gold.

Like in Tournament mode, battles in the Arena do not take place simultaneously. This means that the enemy squad you are attacking is controlled by AI.

The results of the battles in the Arena are recorded daily. Players earn Crystals of power and Gold as a reward if they make it onto the Arena Leaderboard.

🔶 __Tournament__
Tournament takes place once every week.

All players, who have entered into a battle against other player on the Arena at least once 24 hours before the Tournament, are split into Tournament groups. Players are sorted into groups according to the average power of their top five highest-level heroes.

During the Tournament, players can attack other players in their group. Players attack each other in Tournament to earn more points and reach a higher postition in Tournament Leaderboard.

In Tournament mode, players earn more points for victory in battles in which they attacked other players themselves and fewer points for a victory in defense mode.

Players lose more points for lost battles when attacking, and lose fewer points for defeats in defense mode.

Similarly to Arena mode, battles in Tournament mode take place asynchronously. This means that the enemy squad you attack is controlled by the AI.

Heroes who fall in battle do not resurrect between battles in Tournament.

Tournament lasts 48 hours. When the time’s up, all players’ results are recorded and they earn rewards at the end of the Tournament.

Players can earn Crystals of power and Gold in the Tournament.

Players earn rewards for reaching the Leaderboard at the end of the Tournament. Rewards won by players are held in the Post section awaiting collection.

🔶 __Tomb of Horrors__
Tomb of Horrors is the game mode where players can fight modified squads of other players to get chests with Diamonds and other rewards.

Tomb of Horrors is an extremely dangerous place — ancient magic prevents heroes from resurrection and restoring skill cooldowns between battles in this legendary dungeon.

Player's heroes can only restore some health between battles.

Note: enemy heroes doesn't restore their health and skill cooldowns between battles!

Players can use all of their heroes to pass the Tomb of Horrors if their other heroes died in battle.
Tomb of Horrors can be restarted each 24 hours, after a player started to pass it.

🔸 __Tomb of Horrors difficulty__
Tomb of Horrors matches difficulty according to player's Squad Power.

Tomb of Horror gives first three missions of a certain difficulty when player starts to pass it for the first time. The difficulty of missions depends on the maximum Squad Power — strength of the player's five most powerful heroes.

After player passes through the first three missions Tomb of Horrors generates new three missions with a certain difficulty, depending on the player's new maximum Squad Power.

🔸 __Rewards__
Tomb of Horrors generates rewards and chests according to player's Squad Power.

The more the player's Squad Power, the more Diamonds and other rewards can be obtained for passing the Tomb of Horrors.

Diamonds can be spent in the Tomb of Horrors Market.

Marks

🔷 __Marks__
Marks are one of the key elements in the game which encourage tactical approach and increase the number of possible combos. All heroes can interact with Marks: put them on enemies, trigger them or take them off.

There are class Marks and faction Marks.

🔹 __Class and Faction Marks__
Some heroes can put their class Mark when they attack an enemy.

Some heroes can put a Mark of their faction by means of some of their skills.

🔹 __How it works__
Once placed, Marks will be active until the marked hero is attacked by a particular enemy hero or until the Mark is removed by an ally.

Every faction has:

2 heroes that put Marks on enemies.
3-4 heroes that trigger these Marks.
1-2 heroes that remove enemy Marks from allied heroes.
Class Mark can be triggered by heroes of a particular class.

Faction Marks imply interaction of at least two heroes of the same faction.

Example: Kobold Guard can put the Kobolds faction Mark by using his skill 'Enraging Strike' against the enemy hero. Subsequently, Spear Kobold’s skill 'Sudden Strike' inflicts critical damage on heroes with the Kobolds faction Mark.

You can find out what kind of Mark a hero has in the 'Skills' section on a hero page at Wikia: http://ageofmagicgame.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Heroes

Final Items

Microtransactions: Just buy the bunny. That’s it. These devs don’t hate you. Probably the least predatory game out there. I don’t get a single pop up randomly in the game and neither will you. Thank god.

Friends: ADD PEOPLE!!!! In discord just post your name or post it here and we can add up. You’ll want to use high level friend chars to cheese through campaign.

Raids: They’re coming in the next patch. Yay!

Lastly: Ask questions guys. Have fun and let’s do this! YAYYYYYY.

And if you feel the need to whale, do it, or just close the game every time. Hopefully, after a while, you learn to just wait for your energy to naturally regen. Well, at least that's what I'm trying to do after dropping $245 in a few days. Not sure if it's worth it at the moment, but I'd probably spend it on other games anyway.

According to what I read on Reddit the meta is 2-3 healers that can revive plus a few dps.

RosaParksOfDip
May 11, 2009
Yeah what I've seen is most characters are really squishy. Damage is not super well balanced against total ability to take damage and very few characters have very good mitigation tools. That combined with aoes that hit the full team means tanks are pretty meh. So multiple healers is a must and even with that dudes are going to die so you need rezzes.

Here’s my personal preference regarding healers:

- Lucky is an excellent healer, that can’t be stated enough.

- Xaart is also pretty great, he can pack a mean punch and has a large health pool. His resurrection/heal puts a DoT on your living characters, and the resurrection is only temporary for two turns, but they cannot be killed until the two turns are up and they expire. You can still 3 star missions with the temporarily alive.

- The healing dwarf, Hagrim, removes one debuff with his heal and also has a big health pool. If you resurrect with Xaart, and use Hagrim’s debuff removal, you typically remove the DoT on the living, and the temporary rez debuff on the previously dead and they’re still unkillable for two turns.

- Before I had access to Hagrim, I got by with Kobolock who has a powerful heal and his AoE and basic attack are strong. Plus he’s a Kobold and his AoE at level 5 puts kobold marks on the enemy team.

I love the art direction in this game, and I love how the races aren't the same fantasy old fantasy schlock you'd see in other games of the genre. It's interesting to see the dwarves as like Arabian princes and poo poo rather than drunken Scottish assholes, and the elves being less about hugging trees and more about honor and sick katana tricks is kinda neat.

If they made a tabletop system based on this universe I would probably play it, but I'm also a sucker for poo poo like Warhammer fantasy so.

Seriously. It's not like there's already precedent for 'throw a group of heroes at random assortments of enemies' with Warhammer Quest, and there's enough variety you could just drown people in choices, like, "Hm, do I want the slayer with two axes, the slayer with two hammers, the one with the giant hammer, or the one with the giant axe? Eh, gently caress it, I'll take all four and throw Snorri in for good measure."

Buy the bunny. It's advice that is on constant repeat on the discord and there's a reason for that. Roland is the only decent starter light side and the rest are pretty much garbage (Kha the dragon healer is fine and having two healers makes the fights a LOT easier).

Fried Sushi
Jul 5, 2004

Yeah Bunny and Starter pack are decent buys, $7 is all I have spent on the game so far and I don't feel like I am being punished, eventually I'll probably throw $10-$20 more at them cause I like what the devs are doing.

RosaParksOfDip
May 11, 2009
The important thing is you don't unlock many light heroes for a long time and the tank is basically garbage. Buying the bunny lets you drop him and two healers is basically a requirement for progressing content. Cooldowns are long and health pools deplete fast so having two healers that can Rez makes a big difference.

Work towards finishing Act 1 to unlock the Heroic version of it and then start marching through that. That quest repeats every month. It looks like it'll take at least a few months to get a team together. To unlock succubus you need account level 50 and 5 demons at 5* with gear level 5(the easiest part).
