uhoh, someone let a psycho from borderlands into the resistance.

The people in this stronghold are survivors of a genocide. It is a mistake to think that makes them better people. This writing, while extreme, is not unexpected for a person in that situation.

Wait, how is Sakura's person still alive? He was supposed to have less than a year to live when Sakura went to Hope's Peak and its been at least two years.

Because sometimes, people beat the odds. The house always wins, though.

Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao.

Apparently in the Japanese scene she's just saying a bunch of random phrases in a vaguely mantra-ish way.

Which is what, in Toko's mind, proves that it was all just a delusion, since a real ghost (which don't exist) wouldn't have been scared away by a fake mantra spoken by someone who doesn't know anything about Buddhism.

Same. If you're enjoying "despair" or getting off on "despair" (which Junko and the Remnants of Despair were clearly shown to in DR1& DR2)...well then it's not really "despair" then is it?

Junko is portrayed as being aware of the contradiction, which only makes her psychosis worse. Likewise, it's more the case that the Remnants are, much like the Warriors, worshipping Junko without being really conscious of the implications of that.

But I've come to the conclusion that when dealing with Junko, it's probably best not to think of her as a character in the story, but rather as an element of a game. Why do these things happen? Because there wouldn't be a game otherwise.

Additional note: The person known as "Gundham" in the games is referred to as Tanaka the Forbidden in most of the episodes of this series, in order to avoid paying for the use of that word divine retribution.

Honest question here: Is this debate a Japanese manners thing about it being rude to not accept gifts even if it will literally kill you? Because otherwise this isn't even a debate, it's just Ruruka being extremely lovely (and technically Sonozuke too, but that would require him not being just an extension of her).

It's possible that Ruruka views it in those terms, but more likely that she is just an rear end in a top hat.

The end of this episode is what made me finally decide that, basically, Junko is just a plot device, and any discussion about her character and motivations is pointless.

- Junko outfit in this episode is from Danganronpa Zero. Sadly, aside from the appearance of that spy kid I pointed out earlier, this is pretty much the only reference to that story.

I believe that the individual who supplied the blood in that picture also makes a brief and uncredited cameo in this episode or possibly the one before it.
