The Deltas are really neat. That said, there's some clear balancing problems already, not only on how Delta Squirtle is a bad choice but also on a starter having a super-effective move on the first fight, making it that much harder on the player, level advantage or not. Also, Delta Bulbasaur having two sprites while the rest have one looks super weird.

What happens if you choose Eevee? Does Damian get an Eevee too?
I feel like it might have been better to keep at least one type from the original Pokemon, preferably the "main" Fire/Water/Grass type.

It's kind of funny that they use magic to teleport the cultists, when there are Pokemon who could be used to do the same thing. Just have him pull out an Alakazam or something.

for me it doesn't read like a fighting type, nor a steel type outside of the weirdly placed spikes. If I were to guess it's typing base on other pokemon designs, it'd be Dark.

Generally Pokemon design is very good at telling you what the primary typing is right off the bat thanks to either coloration (bright yellows tend to indicate electric, and pre-XY, pink or white for normal), or design shorthands (lightning bolt horn for the non-yellow Blitzle), Lucario manages to convey fighting by it's stance, but nothing else says 'steel'.
I can see it as a fighting type, because it's bipedal and sleek and sort of in a martial arts stance IIRC. You're definitely right that if I had to pick a secondary type for it based solely upon its visual design it would be Dark, not Steel, though.

Hard mode seems especially ridiculous because this is the first gym. It’s one thing if the third or fourth gym suddenly smacks your team down, but it’s something else altogether when the very first serious challenge that you see crushes you. I mean, the fact that your team has to be level 20+ for it is already excessive for more casual players. I don’t want to have to evolve my starter just to face the first gym leader.
Hard mode on Insurgence is still better than the only difficulty Reborn has. There's less grinding for the first Gym (because the game won't let you go above level 20 without a badge), but the first Gym Leader has a full team of 6 Pokemon, their general level of optimization is about equal to Insurgence's Hard mode, and you have to deal with a terrain effect that favors your opponent unless you have the move that disables it.

Anyway, why are there so many evil Teams..I mean, Cults? We're seven badges deep and still getting introduced to more factions. That leaves very little development for any of them and almost no coherent plot between all of this. Just a heaping helping of EDGE when they enter the room.
Are we? I count two: Suntouched City and its Sun themed gym and Vipik City and its Forest themed gym. Are you certain you're not confusing it with Reborn, which is about 7 badges deep at this point and still not even halfway done with the plot?

The third versions are already becoming a thing of the last. Gen V and Gen VI both skipped them. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon brought them back, but it makes me wonder if they’re going to continue skipping them in the future or not.

...who would you base a third Let’s Go game around? Let’s Go Meowth, maybe?
If we're counting Ultra Sun/Moon, then we have to count Black/White 2. So far, Gen 6 is the only one to not have a third version.

Let's Go are technically remakes, which usually don't get a third version.

Is the Infernal Cult actually Hell-based, or is it just fire, though? Remember, these guys are basically just Team Magma with the serial numbers filed off. "Infernal" as a reference to fire actually makes more sense than if it were straight-up Hell. You could give them the angle that they're trying to give the region a purification/"rebirth" by fire as their raison d'etre.

What Pokemon would you even give a Hell-themed evil team? I guess there's always the standby of treating Dark types and Giratina/Darkrai as evil, but there aren't any Satanic Pokemon as far as I know.

But I think as soon as people discovered a magic virus that makes Pokemon stronger they would immediately have started human trials long before any of this.

I'm enjoying Reukra's reaction, though. "Eh, I promised he'd be healthy and maybe longer lived, and he is. Species and sanity weren't part of the deal."

Also, no strong opinion but Poliwrath looks slightly better than Politoed so that one I guess.
The line "the virus doesn't work on humans" seems to imply that people did try injecting it into humans, and they proved immune for whatever reason. It only worked on this guy because his DNA had apparently been altered by a Pokemon. Deoxys is apparently a retrovirus.

Also no strong preference on Poliwogs, so I'm gonna vote Politoed just to be contrary.
