Thoughts:

Last episode was awesome, especially when the OP kicked in.

I actually thought Lisa Lisa would be the one to die. I loved her, but the reveal made Jojo leering on her a little weird.

I wanted to start Part 3 as soon as it was over.

The last few episodes of Battle Tendency are a rollercoaster of ridiculous and over the top situations.

I always loved Part 2 because it has plenty of the things that I enjoy:

vampires, nazis, magic kung-fu, dead nazis, swole dudes punching people, ridiculous training montages, nazi super science, cyborgs, ripped Aztec Gods of Fitness, sick themes, bromance, young Joseph's shenanigans

Part 3 is also a blast, and a fan favourite, but it's different and departs significantly from Part 1 and 2 while setting the tone and themes that later parts will follow.

Godspeed to you wuggles, enjoy Stardust Crusaders.

The thing I like about Jojo is how every part basically has its own standard for bizarre. That makes Part 1 look rather normal compared to the rest of the series, mind you, but I do think it helps give each part its own degree of flair. I also like how dogs started dying a lot less once DIO died.

Araki got gud at drawing dogs and his wrath faded

FirstAidKite
Nov 8, 2009
Araki follows the rules of media in establishing how bad a person is. Gray Fly killed several people and wrote Massacre on the wall in their blood, but Vanilla Ice, Rubber Soul, Mannish Boy, Pet Shop, and DIO are all absolutely worse in that they murdered dogs.

It's like how in American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is a terrible person but what drives the point home isn't necessarily that he murders a guy but also that he murders a dog as well.

Supersonic Shine

I think it's hosed up that some people value the lives of dogs over human beings, but at the same time, I wanted Rubber Soul to get loving murdered after he killed that dog.

he's definitely gone on record saying that he loves dogs and regards anyone who harms them to be basically evil incarnate. so that should probably put it into context, even if it seems a little ridiculous at times. he's 100% trying to put it across that you should hate these people.

For one incredibly stupid moment I totally forgot Vanilla Ice was a Jojo character and got upset and googled to find out if the rapper had killed a dog at some point.

But he very specifically set out to torture iggy because he didn't want Cream to just erase him, he wanted Iggy to feel the pain of having his ribs absolutely pulverized until they pierced into his own lungs.

Supersonic Shine posted:

This is basically it. Both the lives of humans and the lives of animals have some inherent worth to them but when it comes to media, there are certain kinds of things that are essentially coding for "this person is a bastard." It is to the point that you have websites listing whether a movie has an animal that dies in it because, as a culture, we've come to see animals and children as being representations of innocence and purity and vulnerability so when Dio burns Danny alive or makes a mother eat her own baby while he stands there and muses to himself about how he promised he wouldn't be the one to hurt her baby, it is to lend credence to what Speedwagon said, that Dio is an absolute rat bastard, the scummiest of scum, and that he will never rise above that.

This also factors into Kars and how he is very specifically shown to respect any non-human non-vampire non-pillarman life form, killing humans who are about to run over an animal or making sure to ricochet off of cliffs to avoid landing on a plant. That's why it is so important when he becomes the ultimate life form that one of the first things he does is murder a squirrel with his own squirrel hand. He no longer has respect for the earth and its ecosystem because he himself is now the embodiment of the earth and everything on it and there's no need for any of it to exist when he exists, no need to protect anything. Kars has shown himself to be an rear end in a top hat in numerous ways, a cheat, dishonorable prick, but it is with the death of a random squirrel that it shows just how much the mask has changed him and how there is absolutely nothing positive left about him.

There's one thing I don't understand. Esidesi taking Suzie Q hostage to buy time for the stone to leave Rome is totally dishonorable, but Joseph still salutes and respects him in the end.

But Kars being dishonorable for the sake of pragmatism really pisses Joseph off?
