We haven't had that spirit here since 1969.

I just want to say that Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Simone) did an amazing job portraying Eleanor In Virtual Simone's Body, and then Eleanor Pretending To Be Janet In Virtual Simone's Body. The bit went by very quickly but she channeled Eleanor perfectly.

But if Eleanor knows it, then that means she's still hosed even if everyone else is alright.

Unless she's thought of that, because then she'd think she was doomed and yet choose to do good anyway.

But if that's occurred to her, then she would be doomed again.

Unless...

Unless knowingly dooming herself to save her friends gives her enough Good Place points to not be doomed. Unless that very thought occurs to her, in which case...

I mean this is overall a show with a very positive tone so it won't be an "everyone is doomed" ending. My take on this is that ANYONE can "go" to the good place and it's actually up to them based on how they judge themselves (honestly) internally. So if you think/feel (in your heart of hearts) you were a "bad" person in your life you will go to the bad place but it's totally up to you and not some arbitrary system (and everything we see, the bad place, the demons and so on are just a tool for people in the afterlife to reflect on themselves). I really can't see anything else than "anyone chooses his own afterlife" because everything else does have kinda bad implications and wouldn't feel right for this show.

That sounds like the worst possible arrangement. Narcissistic assholes all go to the Good Place (because of course they'd feel they deserve the best), but kind people who tend to be critical of themselves get wasp-nostrilled for eternity? Yikes.

One of my end of show theories is that they will end up transforming the Bad Place from a place of punishment to one of rehabilitation and learning where everyone who arrives there gets taught to be better people.

Finally got to see the latest episode.

Holy cow, one Emmy for D'Arcy Carden, please. A few episodes back, I was impressed by Simone's actress briefly channeling Eleanor so well, but D'Arcy managed to pull off that same trick for four characters for an entire episode, completely convincingly.

And while I'm ordering awards statues, here's a nod to the lighting, editing and special effects people who seamlessly cut together five Janets in an infinite white void and made it look great. The pixelated transformations of Eleanor were pretty neat too. Hell, even the wardrobe people did great work, visually distinguishing the characters without being over-the-top about it.

And finally, back in-universe, I have one tiny prediction: they're totally going to look up Donkey Doug in the Book of Dougs.

If Fred Rogers didn't make it to the Good Place, then that's all the proof I need that the system is broken.

A graceful exit at 4 is better than going until you start losing writers and cast and all that

And ideas. So after Season 7, Eleanor's in a coma and each season is a different dream she's having. In Season 8 the main characters are all playing roles in a film noir, in Season 9 they're adventurers on a Pacific island in the 1930s, in Season 10 they're the crew of a spaceship...

Michael gives them Alpha Centauri, Chidi spends several centuries mapping out everyone's quotes to decide who is the most moral faction.

That's easy, it's Chairman Yang. His faction gets a large population, which means he provides food and security for the greatest number of people, safely imprisoned in brutal serfdom in his underground bases. (What, you're going to argue that providing luxuries to a few people is better than keeping a large number of people alive?) And he also created genejacks, who cannot feel pain or desire anything but the complete fulfillment they get from their labor. Ethics A-plus right there.

(This is why everyone hates moral philosophy professors.)
