The snorkel is really great, because it tells a lot about Jason in such a small detail. Like, he knows that a snorkel helps you breathe in places where it's hard to breathe normally, but he hasn't quite made it to WHY it does that.

And when it doesn't work, his first instinct is "this snorkel must be broken"

The show does have the handicap of having to compete against American handball for viewers.

No one watches Thursday Night Football.

Also lol at worrying about shows competing for time in the age of DVRs/streaming

So the real Good Place really does have the anti-swearing rule in effect?

Cause on the podcast they said that was secretly a torture for Eleanor to make her think the rest of the neighborhood was better than her because they don't swear. But now we're meant to assume it's a rule for the actual Good Place too?

Yes, yes, I realize ultimately it's there so they can swear without swearing due to TV censors but it still bugged me just a little. Amazing episode, though.

if Chelenor's home is sneakily terrible, what is wrong with the Jahani mansion? She gets literally everything and he gets a secret man cave.

She's forced to constantly throw parties, since she has the biggest place, and Michael makes sure that the party always goes horribly wrong. It's the perfect torture for someone obsessed with throwing perfect events.

It is pretty astounding how much people are trying to search this show for deep meanings when it's just a fun silly take on the afterlife

The show definitely wants you to read into it more and clearly wants to prompt discussions about ethics and morality, so just dismissing it as being free of deeper meaning seems misguided.

That said, the constant goony derails about "how can 500 years mean 500 years" are extremely tiresome and the show definitely does not want to prompt those kinds of discussions, which is why they gave us Jeremy Bearemy, the ultimate explanation/joke.

It does, because Jeremy Bearimy doesn't explain actual time discussion in that way and also because it's more fun to discuss the show than to just say nothing. Why are you here if you don't want to talk about it?

I do want to talk about the show, but I don't want to have the same conversation over and over about what does 500 years mean?

It means 500 years. Now we can talk about the show!

"I was just torturing Shakespeare by describing the plot to the Entourage movie" is one of my favourite lines in the show ever.

:yeah:

Also, fun detail I noticed, the sample tomato being discussed was bought at a Food and Stuff.

...That's probably it actually. Intentions obviously matter, and Mindy got the perfect storm, perfectly pure intentions that would help millions, but no actions to cancel out the positive from ripple effects.

Mindy herself admits that had she not died, she probably would have just blown all her money on cocaine and never actually gotten around to doing any of the work.

I literally go to Sarasota almost every year and have gone to Orlando a few times, and... while the stereotypes are somewhat true, TGP takes them way, way, way farther than in reality

If you haven't been to the panhandle, you haven't been to Florida. You went to the rich people city and the tourist city. That's it.

Yea, remember that Jason is from Jacksonville specifically. If you go to Tampa/Orlando/Miami, you're not really getting the true Florida Man experience. And as Mordicelius and kumba said, Sarasota is for retired well off people, it's the least Florida Man environment ever, Florida Man thrives in poverty and youth.

Also, it is a comedy show, of course it's exaggerating reality.

E: VVV Yea if you go 5 minutes east of Orlando you're in Bithlo and hooo boy are you gonna have a time.
