double nine posted:It's so weird to see Shawn emote. Especially - he smiles. that's not natural (also he looks tiny in that perspective and next to attractive giantess Jameela Jamil). contrary to this, my first thought was that MEJ looks good as hell with a beard

seaborgium posted:I might be the only person who notices this, but they named all the people they gave money too. Waomi Natts, Nicole Mankid, Eeeth Kurban, it's as bad/good as the puns. I know Brooklyn 99 does it sometime too, so it must be a Mike Schur show thing. speaking of the puns, turns out this was Megan Amram's episode and also she was playing the chin guitar https://twitter.com/kvanaren/status/1053099860570841088 eke out fucked around with this message at 04:03 on Oct 19, 2018 |

Harrow posted:Also, side note, but the title of the next episode has me real excited: "The Ballad of Donkey Doug" if the new premise lets us see them go around and try to save the scumbags they used to be friends with it'll be fantastic. at least for the two episodes it lasts before it radically shifts gears again

seaborgium posted:I think once you add the Peeps and the M&M's the amount of beans becomes of secondary importance. the most remarkable thing about this week's podcast is learning that they did in fact make that actual chili (peeps and m&ms and all) and that Will Harper actually ate some of it

Harrow posted:After listening to a bunch of the podcast, I don't think the writers are all that opposed to people overanalyzing the points system. I think we're supposed to think about the system and notice the holes and come to the same conclusion as Michael (it's fundamentally broken and unfair). yeah I don't think it's subtext or a matter of interpretation that the whole system is broke right now, it's explicitly the thing we're supposed to be thinking.

drunkencarp posted:The idea that seems most plausible to me is that you need an **absurdly** high point total to get into the Good Place and because Doug spent his first 20 or 25 years living like a normal person he was in too great a hole when he started his ascetic lifestyle to make it over the line. I was also thinking along these lines. Perhaps post-trip Doug has been net good, but his actions are so small and personal - rather than the big social changes that get lots of points - he's still unable to make up that deficit.

MaxieSatan posted:Jason, not knowing what a "trifle" is, presents a traditional Floridian cake shaped like a gun. Chidi botches the technical challenge because he can't decide what temperature to set the oven to and thus never turns it on at all. how can we ever know what is a "good bake"?

I'm tremendously impressed that they recorded an entire episode with the whole cast (though in street clothes without makeup) for D'Arcy to listen to over and over and and refer back to. also: "What was the thing you had to kiss?" qirex posted:there's a bunch of ways it could go: the good place is actually horrible so the people there changed the numbers so everyone would be spared, the good place is amazing but they don't want any new people because being there made them selfish jerks, a wizard did it, etc. it would be kinda cool if the good place involved some kind of moral decay, with all judgment finished and no consequences for any actions

emgeejay posted:Yeah, this is my guess because it ties into the show's soft metafiction. They'll try to give the newbies a Good Place free of "all the variables that make life on Earth hard," and they'll be shocked to discover the new characters don't grow or change. Without Michael's sitcom torture scenarios, these new dirtbags will run amok with the Janet babies, leading to oh... you know I keep wondering whether we'll end up with a meta-good place, where they have to convince the new inhabitants that they're in a similar situation to what our main characters used to be in

double nine posted:Ron Swanson should be one of the new characters. No I can't find an excuse, but it'd be a lot of fun. i think it was last week on the podcast where MEJ said that he knew Nick Offerman was offered the Shawn part before him, which is really weird to imagine
