IIRC even god mode scripts couldn't save you from gatekill because they replenished health and impact damage when warping into an M1 put your health into the 'negative'.

Speaking of gatekill, another kind of gatekill I was particularly fond of was the Ring of Fire script by Cycrow (?) where your ship would automatically deploy laser towers in a ring around a gate.

Using that with LU was good fun in the invasion sectors.

Space trucking in E:D was kinda boring because there was just nothing else to look at past a spinning cube station or whatever. The backdrops are interesting but only so interesting after a while.

The sheer traffic in X3 made space trucking more fun.

Anyone know where to find a black market dealer? I got a bunch of hot gear that I need to find a taker for before I get scanned by the po po!

Performance wise, 6700k at 4.5ghz, GTX1080, 4k gives me around 60 fps in uncluttered space, 30 to 50fps in smokey asteroid space, and like 30 to 40 in stations, all settings maxed.

I think I should turn that ssao off and maybe even soft shadows too.

Playing it on a TV from the couch with a controller, but still need kb and mouse nearby to really make it work. Mouse especially for map screen.

ECells weren't exactly an efficient money-maker in X3.

Egosoft just implementing tradition!

Edit: X3 factories / producing stations had secondary resources which were used if available and adjusted pricing with the amount in the station. This acted as a resource sink to drain the economy and keep things moving along.

Why didn't they do it in X4?

One thing I did in X3 consistently was take station build missions to "increase" the economy. Every time I played, I'd do 2 or 3, and then go on to my normal empire building. I can't say if it had an effect or not considering how huge the universe was there compared to X4.

Anyway, just got enough money to buy a builder. I'm going to try the same thing. Let's see how it goes.

Unlike in X3, every station you build you retain ownership of the station once built. So it's an upfront money loser if you build a proper station, otherwise you can make good money off them by hitting bare minimum, then demolishing it (you can remove all but the dock, and then shoot the dock)

Thanks! Didn't know this. Well there's no point in doing the missions, then, is there? I mean, if the goal was to embiggen the (AI) economy rather than as a money making job.

I already bought the builder too lol. Oh well it'll come in handy for when I start setting up my own stations.

I've been using this with jumping off and know all trades set to false (so it only trades where I have satellites), and it still feels cheaty.

Like I regularly see transactions netting me 5 to 10 mil a pop. I set up 10 of these things and earned like 25m in an hour and a half.

I'll give tatertrader a try.

edit : I really miss the old x3 trader extensions that would autorename the traders and go do its thing.

It is definitely obtuse, but your options are saved and leave an entry in your log in the "upkeep" section. Also, when your trader completes a trade, he'll post the earnings and also a list of the options you've set.

You need to set options for each individual trader which is kind of a pain if you're doing a lot. Also, make sure you have trade all wares set to false otherwise your ships will definitely get into trouble with the law since they don't use highways, and so spend a lot of time at basic speed around gates and stations, easy places to get scanned.

TaterTrader, which I'm also using, seems like a more 'fair' version of an autotrader mod. I've set up 5 TaterTraders doing ship component runs (so, engine parts, hull parts, the various weap/shield/drone components) and they regularly pull in 300k~500k per transaction and keep the wharfs and shipyards stocked well.

I've yet to experiment with the pricing modifier for player stations, but setting it at something like 80% of list price should mean they favor your stations, and so act as station traders. You can also assign them to your station which I have yet to test, since my one and only station is still in construction.

Strigil posted:

When I see that happening, I go into xenon sectors and try to draw them through the gates. After a bit of back and forth I can usually get one side or the other to start an invasion. Also works early game to get cash by picking up the loot. Faulty Logic seems to be an easy one to do this on.

I've got the cheat script mod installed because it's pretty handy, so keeping in tradition with X3 anyway.

One thing I sometimes do is spawn 5 or so Xenon K's in a sector to get some action happening. Since i'm on the same save I was from release, I don't have any of the new glorious war benefits of 1.32 and onward, and so doing this helps to destroy ships and keep the economy running.

It's also pretty rad spawning in 5 or 10 k's, and then just watching them in seta for a while bumble about taking forever to kill things. But as soon as you go OOS, they absolutely wreck poo poo.

The xenon have been all but defeated. Interested to see how they start respawning to restart the war while I explore the new sectors. Last I played I was cheating in xenon cap ships to try and get production going but apparently they're all gone now. Might cheat in some more to try and kickstart this thing.

After such a long break (last played 2018 december) controls are completely unfamiliar lol. I'm doing a combo of controller + m+kb in front of the TV.

So I experienced a super weird bug with TaterTrader. I think it happened after a crash, but I had like 8 traders that were 'stuck' in their travel drives and just zooming around the universe not doing anything.

No matter what order I gave them they would just keep beelining in a straight line for the nearest gate / accelerator. They were always going straight toward gates or accelerators. When they warped into a new sector, they'd point themselves straight at a gate/accelerator, staying in travel mode.

I couldn't figure out how to deal with them so I just cheat-script destroyed them and replaced them with new traders *shrug*

Poor pilots.

So I brought through a save from launch (stopped playing at 1.5, started again with the SV DLC), and by that point in my universe the xenon were contained to their own sectors and the main races had no trouble defending against them.

But after I'm guessing maybe 10 or 12 hours of play, I am noticing Xenon K's and I's in multiple sectors. They've also taken Company Regard.

I sort of expected the Xenon to just remain dead and that I'd have to start a new game to get all the effects of the increased war, but I'm impressed and really starting to take them seriously in this save. Admittedly, I did help them along by spawning in a couple of K's here and there to kill stuff.

It's honestly making it really annoying and I'd like to 'untether' my camera and have full free roam.

Regarding weapon mods, got a couple of questions. I've finally completed the research but I assume now I've got to find blueprints. Do they only drop from xenon? How rare are the enhanced mod blueprints?

Also, if I put a basic mod on my weapons, can I then upgrade it to an enhanced mod?

Shrimp or Shrimps
Feb 14, 2012

OwlFancier posted:

If you complete the research it unlocks blueprints by tier, you fit them at a ship production facility for that size of ship, go to the ship dealer on the dock and there's a special workbench there.

You can not upgrade mods but if you recycle them you get the core component for that level back as well as a portion of the additional components, so core components are more "you can have this many mods in your fleet at once" while additional components are "you can reroll crafting them this many times"

Thanks. It appears I have probably borked my save with aggressive modding and liberal cheat script usage.

I've unlocked the 3 tiers of weapon mod research, but only showing on the crafting bench are "basic" recipies. The second and third tiers show nothing.

It's good to know that I can remove an upgrade mod to a weapon (by recycling it) and then install a better upgrade.

Now... to find out a way to get those better upgrade blueprints if they didn't automagically come when I completed the third tier of research.

Sweet summer child, 5 million bucks is nothing in this game. Look into getting the blue prints for basic production stations. You want to be able to take the resources your miners are making (ore, silicon, helium, hydrogen, etc) and turn it into products that you can sell to everyone. Then you can keep working up until you're the one producing the highest tier products like weapon components.

Word. The game really scales up in terms of how much money you need for <poo poo>. I'm at the stage in the game where I'm probably making about 100 mil an hour, and I still haven't bought all the blueprints (especially the cap ships) and supplying build storage via construction budget for a mega station is still a really big chunk out of the wallet.

-

Been pretty cavalier with mods on this launch-save, but I back them up pretty regularly. I've installed Rise of the Ossian Raider which is a cool mod that basically adds a military threat comparable to the Xenon and has them build up and invade sectors.

So the Teladi are getting their gecko tails whooped by both the Xenon and the Ossian Raiders. It's pretty cool but my priority now is getting enough money so I can buy out all the Teladi BPs before they inevitably eat it.

I've been making money with player wharfs - they really outclass any other kind of mega-fac or whatever. However, I've been 'cheating' and building these big Borg Cubes with the production modules all clipping into each other. It was a cool experiment and they look awesome at 2fps, but now I'm dedicating my playing time to lego-ing translucent blocks into a mega-station that doesn't clip at all.

The only way to do either the cube or this new mega fac is to split the design process into layers, and then edit the XML "constructionplans.xml" to bring them all together into one BP. After that, you've got to snap each layer together with a new connecting piece to make sure the layers connect (though they don't need to, stations work fine disconnected but IIRC you need cargo drones?).

Otherwise, the build interface chugs and it's impossible at a point to add a new snap piece because it tries to draw about a billion green lines for snap points.

If you're having trouble with lag in the build design screen, save the BP, and then reload it. This can help for a while, but once you get enough modules down, it won't anymore.

queeb posted:

IIRC both piers and cargo drones are necessary for an L/XL ship to make a trade with a station.

The only times I use L traders or miners is when I limit them to one sector and have them mine and trade between my own stations. So like if you're making a home sector in Nopiles Fortune and have a bunch of facs there.
