So, what do you reckon are the odds that B is packing some Hundred Power? We know it's not a unique ability, and it feels like the sort of twist this team of writers would pull.

B is either a robot or NEXT. Hundred Power seems unlikely since he was dodging mostly rather than just tanking hits.

The off model stuff was pretty jank, the CG stuff I noticed but it didn't really bother me. I'd rather they use that than have their faces be lopsided D:

Can someone explain Zabel's motive or plan in this episode to me, because I'm a little confused on it.When he's himself again at the end he says that Zabel is now dead, which suggests he went through years of prison playing a physically crippled coward just to ensure that when he escaped no-one would know and that there'd be no-one looking for him as he'd officially be dead, but the cops are on to him straight away as an escapee since the guards in his van were killed and his body wasn't around. So was he just playing the long con really badly to say he left behind no physical evidence suggesting he died? Or did he languish in jail for literally no reason, since B could have one-man armied his escape even if Zabel had been held in the center of Cheyenne mountain by a team of Batmen most likely. The episode was still really fun, but Zabel's entire plan or motive just seems kind of half assed to me.

My tinfoil hat theory:

A tore off his bad leg and killed Z to pretend to be Z in order to win B's trust, so that when they find and capture B it turns out Z was A all along and capturing the disloyal B plays into his hands. His leg is now fine because mutagens.

My reasoning: the bad leg was separate from the rest of the body and the ambulance scene earlier already showed that you can use anthem to pretend to be someone you're not. This theory will get tested when we finally have the forensics report on the body in the schoolyard.

Ricky was wearing his prison jumpsuit so I assume they mean to set up his burned body as Zabel's.

Zabel betrayed the location of a few of esperanza's associates so him being "murdered" by the cartel after he escaped is plausible as retribution. Of course you have to suspend disbelief pretty hard for just a jumper to be enough to throw the cops off the trail

The end scene states a few things:
-Zabel says outright that it was A's body, although I do think there is some validity to the foot belonging to A and the body being someone else which would make sense if he was faking his death
-The locations were hidden in the crossword answers, so until he worked the puzzle he didn't have that info
-B prepared the "treasure hunt" and it shows the marks placed in the school that indicate the spot where the body is (a bamboo leaf > Bamboo Man)
-Ricky was on the take and was operating as a go-between for Zabel and B
-Ricky is wearing Zabel's prison jumpsuit so ostensibly his body will be taken as Zabel's and that identity is now considered dead
-B plus a group of other (likely) Esperanza operatives are working for the man formerly known as Zabel

I think it's safe to take (most of) these things at face value, and imo either the A-Z hierarchy is not as obvious as it sounds or there is an internal shakeup happening with Z/whoever he is consolidating power and removing adversaries.

What was the significance of the two prisoners interacting at the very beginning? Who was that other guy?
Prisoner #487 -- was he the guy getting dragged off later screaming that they were going to kill him? I can't find the spot to rewatch that scene and my internet is rear end so it takes forever to restart the stream when I skip around in it so I wasn't sure if that guy was supposed to be somebody or just a rando.

they thought that esperanza was ranked from a to z, with a being the leader because that's what zabel told them. it is the opposite. bamboo man might not even be b. also, zabel was arrested on a minor charge and then confessed to killing those 5 people, meaning he deliberately entered prison.

the other prisoner who got dragged off was also scheduled to be executed, and then he was.

I guess I don't really understand why he was bothering to stay in jail for several years in the first place given the sheer power Bamboo Man displayed in this episode. He had such overwhelming power relative to the police that I doubt Zabel would be in trouble with him as a bodyguard if the entire city lined up to try and capture him at once.

Everything Burrito posted:

Ricky was also burnt, so not only would you have to believe the cops would go "oh, we found a body in his jumpsuit; case solved", but you'd have to buy that his jumpsuit survived a fire intact enough to be identifiable as his particular one. It just seems so shoddy.

Yeah I was trying to figure out what motive he might have to be in jail, and other than protection while whatever his long-term plans were came to fruition, I'm not sure. There is probably some sort of reason that we haven't been shown yet

Agree that subbing Ricky for Zabel to provide a body is sloppy, seems like even the most rudimentary examination would show that to not be the same person.

zabel was in prison because he wanted to be in prison. he obviously didn't confess back then because he was so intimidated by doug. as for bamboo man, his behavior was nothing but fishy. he left when the clock tolled, rather than when zabel had gotten out. he was out of time, though it's unclear whether that was a duration to his powers or a time limit he adhered to.

It's fine to leave a character on a mystery and with a viewer asking "I wonder what we don't know yet", "I wonder where this is going" etc. The problem with Zabel is that I'm mostly left going "wait, that plan makes no sense and just seems sloppy". Which undermines the cast and my interest in the show. Thankfully the rest of the writing is more than good enough to overshadow that, but at the same time that just makes Zabel's plan being sloppy stand out more really.

i don't find it sloppy, some of his actions just have an unclear motive

it's obvious the bodyswap won't trick SEVEN-O, but it could definitely be enough to tie their hands if there's no evidence to support a follow-up and the police take it at face value

Darth Walrus

I get the impression that Zabel really did gently caress up and really was about to get executed, and for whatever reason, the prison was impenetrable for Bamboo Man (maybe because it was so big, solidly-built, and maze-like that his powers would run out before he got to Death Row?), so B, who was one of Z's hitmen, had Zabel confess to a crime that he, B, had committed on his boss's orders (because Esperanza's lettered officers are ranked in reverse alphabetical order) in order to get him out and render him rescuable.

If his plan was to fake his death, then killing a police escort to escape kind of scuppers it. Even if you burn a corpse at another site it just seems silly that the corpse would be immediately taken as yours with no investigation, even if it has your suit. Especially when you burn the entire building the corpse is in. If his plan wasn't to fake his death, then staying in jail for years on end while playing a physically and mentally different person to fool guards in to underestimating you just seems pointless. Especially when he has a bodyguard as strong as B. Either way, his plan just seems needlessly lengthy and complex.
