I'm still way too backlogged, and I've still got mario party, dark souls, and soul calibur 6 this month. Red Dead 2 is this month too I think? God help me I think I might actually hold off on it.

Edit: thats weird. I was able to preorder Fire Emblem no problem, and I think Daemon Machina comes before that.

Prime 4 really was announced way ahead of time. It's like BOTW

after Smash the next major game I think is Fire Emblem, right? After that I'd bet on Animal Crossing some time in Spring or early summer. Prime 4 in fall or winter. Yoshi whenever he darn well pleases.

I'm having JoyCon problems again. I had to send the left one in for repair a few months ago because the control stick was drifting. Now the right one is doing it. Going merrily along in Monster Hunter, bashing a dragon in the face, and all of a sudden the camera decides to swing around in a circle.

It's not consistent. Sometimes it does it if I adjust the camera little bit. Sometimes it starts doing it if I don't touch the control stick at all. Either way it's obnoxious.

I'm contemplating whether it would be a better idea to just buy a new set of JoyCons. The left one cost me $30 to repair. If it's between paying that again and just getting a new set, I think I'd go with the new set...

Try cleaning both sticks. I kept cleaning the left one because I thought that was what was giving me trouble. It was the right one, as it turns out

Yeah, I remember bringing up the X2 when discussion of a possible New Switch came up ages ago. I read into is a bit since then, and it turns out X2 has far too much power draw for a portable. They aren't designed to run off a battery, they're supposed to run on a continuous power supply, like in a car.

To be fair, the online part being bad was something everyone saw coming miles away. It sucks but hoping for fully featured online when they never had any intention of delivering it was setting oneself up for failure.

As for the Joycons only, it seems from what I've seen of the gameplay footage that these games were designed to be played with the Joycons. Asking to play with other controllers would be like asking to play WarioWare Smooth Moves on the Wii with a GameCube controller. You can want it, but it wouldn't work. That said I haven't played it myself so I don't know how many games depend on the shape and flexibility of the Joycon, but I understand why they might have restricted it that way.

This is definitely the case. There are games that have you hold a joycon like a baton. There's one where you hold it up and fly it around like a kid sticking their hand out the window of a car. I guess any controller with good motion controls could conceivably do it, but it would feel weird.

THE FUCKING MOON

Someday somebody is gonna make mayflash equivalent that handles merging both joycon's inputs without you having to muck around too much. I might buy one too, I'm pretty comfortable with joycons.

I'm real interested in Starlink, but it didn't have the amazon discount applied to it when the preorder deal was still up. I'd be especially interested if there was a physical release w/o the toy, because I really don't want to get into collecting a whole new lot of crap.

No offense to any crap fans out there.

Edit: I may just say screw it and get the digital version anyway if the reception is good. A space shooty game sounds right up my alley right now.

The nice part about the digital version of Starlink is you get WAY MORE SHIPS/PILOTS/ETC for 20$ less. Which, ya know, makes sense since you're not getting the toys.

The physical edition on the Switch is 80$, And you get 2 pilots, 3 weapons, and the Arwing.

Wait, you only get all of the games content if you buy it digitally, and with the physical version you need to buy the toys to unlock the parts? Am I reading that correctly?

Hi guys. I've been gone so long we have a new thread. Grad school is hell.

So I'm trying to design a project for one of my classes where I use technology to teach a language to someone. I chose Japanese and the students are my boyfriend and me, for reasons that I will not get into because I have been bitched at in this thread for talking about my personal life. We both have Switches so I thought it would be cool to explore gamification in CALL, that is, using games to teach language. So here is my question:

Are there any very simple visual novel style games on the Japanese eShop that you think would work for this purpose? Those of you who speak Japanese. I'm talking something with very simple vocabulary. I'm already looking into Hiragana Pixel Party and a Typing of the Dead-style game for kana, but I want something where we would have to read words in context with grammar. And no porn because this is for a school project. I'm not sure what visual novel-type games exist on the Japanese eShop.

I know that Game Dev Tycoon is on the Japanese eShop, with an English option. I'm wondering if it might be possible to play it in Japanese though. My professor was saying he taught English to students by playing an old came called Lemonade Stand. I've played it before. Anyone remember it? So Game Dev Tycoon in Japanese might also be an option.

The trick is going to be buying something off the Japanese eShop. I don't know how to buy games from different regions, only demos.

I'm not really aware of any good ones on the Switch at the moment, but in my experience stuff like that is mostly good to reinforce what you learn otherwise. To be clear I don't really know japanese, I just went through a couple of textbooks and a few workbooks like 10 years ago. I drilled kana/some kanji and I know how to string a sentence together. I could maybe make a mediocre/annoying clown and barely avoid starving and making GBS threads in the street for want of a bathroom if I were just dropped in Japan.

edit: I was able to read kana well enough to stumble through the player shop on PSO2 when the english patch just stopped working for a while a couple years ago. That was a fun exercise
