Do these tutorial pop-ups in UA3 ever stop? I'm still only on the Raft, but I've gotten the same tooltip message, that takes up the entire left half of the screen, about depleting an enemy's stagger gauge every single time I've encountered one!

After spending more time with it, I feel confident in saying MUA3 is not a good game.

It feels like I've fought about 10 bosses already and I can't find a character I like playing as. The action is just a mess. I'm super disappointed. Yes, all of this. I also cannot fathom why they wouldn't give you access to all four abilities until level 20. The combat is so intensely boring and a slogfest with just light/heavy attack and one ability in the beginning. Especially when the gameplay boils down to "wear down these stagger meters, stagger enemy, deal damage for 2-3 seconds, repeat".

I seem to remember it suffering from giving you so many drops that it broke up the flow of gameplay, and also that it ended extremely suddenly.

I've never played a Rune Factory game before, but Rune Factory 4 is giving me the same kind of vibes I got all those years ago with Azure Dreams. There's a lot of weird stuff going on, it seems more complex than I think it actually is, sometimes stuff just doesn't make sense, and it's a lot of fun because there's always something to be doing. Good game.

Bolt Lux posted:Curious about your input on this. Are the graphics as bad as they were looking to be? Does the gameplay make up for it? You can definitely tell it's a 3DS game. The graphics are fine, but nothing amazing. The 2D portraits go a long way to help smooth it over. There's a LOT of excess UI that are devoted to the touch screen, and I wish you could turn those off. The gameplay is good--I've never played a Rune Factory game before, but some things feel kind of clunky to me and I'd have expected them to be ironed out by the 4th game in the series. Unless I'm missing something, the workflow to change an equipped item is: Press L to open up the quick menu, navigate to the item you want to use, select it to open the menu for it, select equip. Not the worst thing in the world, but it feels really complex for something I feel like could be mapped to two buttons that let me shuffle through a favorites list. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but if the graphics in trailers turned you off, they probably aren't any better in the full game. If you can handle a game that wears it's origin (a 3DS game) on it's sleeve very obviously, I think it's a great pick up. Agrias120 fucked around with this message at 20:38 on Feb 27, 2020 |

I bought a new SD card, but nothing seems to be transferring over correctly. I backed up the old card on to my laptop, put the new SD card into the Switch and formatted it, then put the new SD card into my laptop and copied over the data from the old card onto the new one. All the data is clearly there, but the Switch isn't recognizing any of it--it still wants me to redownload everything. Am I missing something? I feel dumb for having trouble with this, but I've tried the entire process a few times now and it keeps ending up like this. I'm using a laptop running OS X to do the copying if that matters.

Is Xenoverse 2 any good? I think way back when I heard the series compared to Monster Hunter in a way, where you continually grind battles for loot to upgrade yourself? Is there a decent story mode or anything? For $10 on sale it's looking like it might be something fun to pick up and play while I'm stuck at home.

The puzzles are things you can easily look up the answers to if you want, at least as far as I've gotten, but some of them you might find that you are doing right but don't have the execution tight enough (stuff like throwing a ball, making sure it lights something on fire, then manipulating that object on fire before it explodes).

This is going to be an incredibly dumb question, but, how do you buy the extra games for Capcom Arcade Stadium? I downloaded the free app w/ 1943. Then I claimed the free Ghosts n Goblins. But if I try to go to the "Store" from the menu of the game, it only lists the free Ghosts n Goblins game I already have. If I try to select a game from the list that I don't own (literally any but the two freebies), it brings me to the eshop and tries to make me download the Ghosts n Goblins game again. I tried searching for the games on the eShop, and they're all listed individually but you can't actually buy them. When I first tried I thought I was maybe just too tired to make sense of it, but I just went through it all again and feel like a total idiot.

Is there a definitive "best" portable dock? I'm going to be living out of a suitcase for a few months and don't want to dedicate so much room to the normal dock. I'd really love to be able to pick up a portable one from somewhere so I can keep playing on the TV as I'm able (preferably one that doesn't force me to swap the internals from my existing dock into a new shell).

404notfound posted:AFAIK the two best options are either the Jumpgate (by popular Switch accessory maker Skull & Co.) or the Genki dock (Genki also makes the best bluetooth adapter for the Switch). They both have an excellent track record, and it really just comes down to how you would use the dock. The Genki combines the charger and dock into a single adapter that plugs into the wall to make things simple, while the Jumpgate needs external power but can also function as a laptop USB dock. Cheers, this is exactly the info I needed. Thank you! I think the Jumpgate is going to be what I go for, since I can get some extra mileage out of it. Do you have any recommendations for the power supply for the Jumpgate so it can properly work to output video, etc, in dock mode?

I think I'm going to go with the Jumpgate since it can double as a hub for my work laptop and also I'm a little worried about the power and HDMI needing to originate from the same point on the Genki.Vic posted:Does any one of you have those goofy looking pro pad joycons? I just got out of two rounds of player lab testing and two key takeaways that were really interesting were: 1. Very few people know what L3/R3 means (but most know that pressing in the L/R stick is a button) 2. There’s very little consensus on what makes a clear icon for the left/right joystick. If you number your shoulder buttons 1 and 2, why would someone assume 3 means a stick? Also Trigger and Bumper feel like better ways to distinguish the shoulder buttons. An issue you also run into is that L3/R3 are not labeled on the controller itself. It’s not a big deal for people who have been avidly playing games, but it makes for rough onboarding.

I’m finally getting more into Eastward now that I just hit chapter 6. I still don’t like the combat, but a lot of the characters have gotten very interesting. The setting is great, but I’m starting to worry the story resolution might not stick the landing. I probably went into this one a little too hyped up and that’s the reason I’m feeling so underwhelmed with it, I guess.

It’s also kind of like… why are they even going Eastward? I guess, maybe, it will be explained at some point in the end. But right now it just feels like the reason they keep going is because the plot says they should go. Otherwise why not just, like, not keep hopping from town to town. Oh well. On to chapter 7 of Eastward finally. I’m so close to being done that I’ll see the game through, but I kind of just want to be done with it already.

Sad Panda posted:I've been playing Eastward. I got as far as New Dam City and am wondering if it gets more interesting? The music is cute but the gameplay is kinda dull and the dialog drags. Does it get better at some point? None of the dungeon/puzzle things have been challenging other than dying a few times running from the miasma to get to the station. The combat never gets good, neither do the bosses. The story kind of flounders and wanders around (I think the area you are in is the best part of the game, but it also suffers from some abysmal pacing). I'm headed into the final chapter of the game and so far everything after the area you're in has been kind of bad.

I just beat Eastward and now I am free to go play something else that will be more enjoyable. The graphics and music were so totally wasted on the rest of the game, it makes me sad. Ironically the last two bosses do something I really hate where they use new mechanics that are more or less not around for the rest of the game. But in this case I actually really liked the timing/parry mechanics a lot, and wished they had been around more. They storytelling felt clumsy, as did the characterization of a lot of characters. Almost like they weren’t entirely sure of the larger story they were trying to tell.

I played a bit of Yoshi's Story and got kind of nauseous, but I'm not sure why (I couldn't tell if there were legitimte frame issues or if it was just late and I was tired).
