Do these tutorial pop-ups in UA3 ever stop? I'm still only on the Raft, but I've gotten the same tooltip message, that takes up the entire left half of the screen, about depleting an enemy's stagger gauge every single time I've encountered one!

Yes, all of this. I also cannot fathom why they wouldn't give you access to all four abilities until level 20. The combat is so intensely boring and a slogfest with just light/heavy attack and one ability in the beginning. Especially when the gameplay boils down to "wear down these stagger meters, stagger enemy, deal damage for 2-3 seconds, repeat".

I played Torchlight 2 when it came out on PC and it's fine. It's must better than Torchlight 1, but there's been so many other releases since then that I don't think I'd look back on it as favorably. I seem to remember it suffering from giving you so many drops that it broke up the flow of gameplay, and also that it ended extremely suddenly.

Curious about your input on this. Are the graphics as bad as they were looking to be? Does the gameplay make up for it?

You can definitely tell it's a 3DS game. The graphics are fine, but nothing amazing. The 2D portraits go a long way to help smooth it over. There's a LOT of excess UI that are devoted to the touch screen, and I wish you could turn those off. The gameplay is good--I've never played a Rune Factory game before, but some things feel kind of clunky to me and I'd have expected them to be ironed out by the 4th game in the series. Unless I'm missing something, the workflow to change an equipped item is: Press L to open up the quick menu, navigate to the item you want to use, select it to open the menu for it, select equip. Not the worst thing in the world, but it feels really complex for something I feel like could be mapped to two buttons that let me shuffle through a favorites list.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, but if the graphics in trailers turned you off, they probably aren't any better in the full game. If you can handle a game that wears it's origin (a 3DS game) on it's sleeve very obviously, I think it's a great pick up.

I bought a new SD card, but nothing seems to be transferring over correctly. I backed up the old card on to my laptop, put the new SD card into the Switch and formatted it, then put the new SD card into my laptop and copied over the data from the old card onto the new one. All the data is clearly there, but the Switch isn't recognizing any of it--it still wants me to redownload everything. Am I missing something? I feel dumb for having trouble with this, but I've tried the entire process a few times now and it keeps ending up like this. I'm using a laptop running OS X to do the copying if that matters.

For reference, I made it through Celeste without having to tune down the difficulty, but got hung up on one of the later Hollow Knight fights and never made it past.

You can tune down encounters in the options, it has a couple of different sliders you can manipulate (I think they're like enemy damage, hp, etc).

The puzzles are things you can easily look up the answers to if you want, at least as far as I've gotten, but some of them you might find that you are doing right but don't have the execution tight enough (stuff like throwing a ball, making sure it lights something on fire, then manipulating that object on fire before it explodes).

This is going to be an incredibly dumb question, but, how do you buy the extra games for Capcom Arcade Stadium? I downloaded the free app w/ 1943. Then I claimed the free Ghosts n Goblins. But if I try to go to the "Store" from the menu of the game, it only lists the free Ghosts n Goblins game I already have. If I try to select a game from the list that I don't own (literally any but the two freebies), it brings me to the eshop and tries to make me download the Ghosts n Goblins game again. I tried searching for the games on the eShop, and they're all listed individually but you can't actually buy them.

When I first tried I thought I was maybe just too tired to make sense of it, but I just went through it all again and feel like a total idiot.

Is there a definitive "best" portable dock? I'm going to be living out of a suitcase for a few months and don't want to dedicate so much room to the normal dock. AFAIK the two best options are either the Jumpgate (by popular Switch accessory maker Skull & Co.) or the Genki dock (Genki also makes the best bluetooth adapter for the Switch). They both have an excellent track record, and it really just comes down to how you would use the dock. The Genki combines the charger and dock into a single adapter that plugs into the wall to make things simple, while the Jumpgate needs external power but can also function as a laptop USB dock.

For my purposes, the Jumpgate works better. It's slim enough to slip into the pocket of my Switch case, and I have a multi-port power adapter that I take everywhere already, so I just use that for power (make sure it can output at 45W for the Switch's dock mode!). Using it as a laptop dock has also come in handy, like when I'm editing photos while traveling and need an SD card adapter. Plus, I've been in enough hotels where the distance between the nearest open power outlet and the HDMI ports on the TV is far enough that the Genki all-in-one solution wouldn't have worked. But I imagine that for most people the convenience of the Genki makes it the perfect portable dock

Cheers, this is exactly the info I needed. Thank you! I think the Jumpgate is going to be what I go for, since I can get some extra mileage out of it. Do you have any recommendations for the power supply for the Jumpgate so it can properly work to output video, etc, in dock mode?

Thanks, everyone! I think I'm going to go with the Jumpgate since it can double as a hub for my work laptop and also I'm a little worried about the power and HDMI needing to originate from the same point on the Genki.

It’s probably this. I just got out of two rounds of player lab testing and two key takeaways that were really interesting were:

1. Very few people know what L3/R3 means (but most know that pressing in the L/R stick is a button)

2. There’s very little consensus on what makes a clear icon for the left/right joystick.

(Also that the iconography for the DS4/DS touchpad buttons are a loving nightmare but oh well.)

Also, hot take: While "RS" and "LS" probably aren't much better, Playstation has the worst button nomenclature IMO. If you number your shoulder buttons 1 and 2, why would someone assume 3 means a stick? Also Trigger and Bumper feel like better ways to distinguish the shoulder buttons.

An issue you also run into is that L3/R3 are not labeled on the controller itself. It’s not a big deal for people who have been avidly playing games, but it makes for rough onboarding.

The end of chapter 5 was honestly the high point of the game and everything after that to me was just a slow slide into disappointment.

Yeah, I’m really feeling that now. It’s also kind of like… why are they even going Eastward? I guess, maybe, it will be explained at some point in the end. But right now it just feels like the reason they keep going is because the plot says they should go. Otherwise why not just, like, not keep hopping from town to town.

The combat never gets good, neither do the bosses. The story kind of flounders and wanders around (I think the area you are in is the best part of the game, but it also suffers from some abysmal pacing). Ironically the last two bosses do something I really hate where they use new mechanics that are more or less not around for the rest of the game. But in this case I actually really liked the timing/parry mechanics a lot, and wished they had been around more.

They storytelling felt clumsy, as did the characterization of a lot of characters. Almost like they weren’t entirely sure of the larger story they were trying to tell.
