Mario Odyssey if you like 3d platformers, Zelda for a refreshing take on open world exploration, Smash is more or less a must-have depending on your tastes. Technically yes, UPS didn't ring my doorbell, despite the fact that I was there all day long. I'm pretty sure it'll be at the front office today. I have no idea what it is, so I've refrained from buying a game yet, I did download Hollow Knight, so it hasn't been completely collecting dust.

I like roguelikes, there's a combination of lots of pressure when you're going real deep, and no pressure because you can just start again and everything will be brand new. For me it's a great type of game that I can use to kill some time, especially with modern games where you can't just quit in the middle of something.

pixaal posted:It's pretty bad, jump scares and constant switching between your flashlight so you can see and your gun. DOS DOOM I & II are far better games, and more scary than cheap jump scares. It was pretty sweet at the time IMHO. I only played a little of the expansion, because I had no desire to really do more of the same with a knockoff gravity gun.

TheScott2K posted:Half-Life 2 kinda curbedstomped it, but I honestly think Doom 3 has aged better. Yeah, I think that really was the problem with Doom 3. Prior to HL2, no one had ever seen a FPS that took place in a passably realistic looking version of the real world.

Ugly In The Morning posted:HL2 also had a crazy level of detail for the time, with trash, fallen leaves, a layer of grime on everything. As much as I can’t go back and play it now, back in 2004 City 17 was the first time a video game area felt like a real place for me. Totally. IT really helped that realistic physics were relatively new, so among other things you could manipulate the trash. Also, ragdoll physics were around previously, but if I recall correctly they had joints that worked like real joints.

The Permadeth is a component of the learning curve of a good roguelike. You're going to die, just as you figure something out, which you can use to not die early the next time (this doesn't always work that way).

MMF Freeway posted:As far as roguelikes go its on the easy side, as far as games in general go its fairly tough. Between all the classes and side stuff to do its pretty full featured and has a lot of content. For sure. I don't think Tangledeep has a "out of level" mechanic, where they occasionally put harder monsters on lower levels. I only say this because I haven't been curb stomped on the first or second level yet, which was an experience I've had in many roguelikes in the past. Alternatively there may be one of those mechanics, I just haven't made it far enough for it to be noticeable yet.

The sales are also way way better than anything on Switch, you can usually got most AAA titles for $20 a year or two after release (except Rockstar games) I need to finish RDR2, but BotW has thoroughly distracted me

I was 13 in 1994, I miss waiting for my parents and brother to not be around so I could find fake pics of Julia Louis Dreyfus or Aladdin pounding Jasmine from behind on the magic carpet.

I can't imagine playing even XCOM2 on console either because I love all the mods and tweaks you can do on PC.
