So I guess Alice uses SAO retarded bullshit science to make a mirror ball that can use luminous element or in her case thousands of fluctlight spirits from fallen fighters to create what is essentially an infinite power generator to power her space laser. Pretty badass.

There's actual a physics precedent for this, but it involves a black hole and if it breaks it wipes out entire civilizations.

So, since this is only episode 7, I assume there are going to be much bigger laser beam explosions that could compete with any space anime.

And what are the weaponless/magicless fighter going to do? Super headbutt beams?

Alice > Kirito and that is awesome/insane (until he unleashes his ultra tree sword attack!)

I'm glad they only did half an episode of info dump abd let the back half be some interesting battling. I was surprised that Alice want able to heal her homeboy though. Seeing as how she's a priestess and was training to be a healer as a child you'd think she would have some pretty powerful white magic spells.

Also there was no magic power available after the big laser, the other side literally sacrificed 3,000 to make the WMD.

poo poo, I thought we were gonna see Alice use that most sacred of arts, motherfucking dual wielding. I guess that's still only for the coma champ Kirito.

Also I know the game experienced a big power surge but it seems like literally every episode now has some sort of system error where the game breaks and some wild poo poo happens that shouldn't happen. And it was really cool at first but now it's just making it even more shonen where if you just want it hard enough, then yeah gently caress it the game will let you keep fighting even after your HP drops into negative thousands. I mean, I guess that isn't unprecedented since all the way back in season one, Kirito beat Kayaba after technically dying, but still. It both opens the door for cool poo poo to happen but simultaneously opens the door for any old bullshit to happen in any given episode. So I guess what I'm saying is between that and all the gratuitous boob shots the Bleach in this show is approaching dangerous levels

It's sad that I don't know whether you're joking or not. Because there are numerous instances where love does conquer all (at least regarding game rules) , and I wouldn't be shocked if there's some LN note I've never read that makes it explicit.

I was chalking up a lot of examples so far this season to the power surge at the end of the last one. But yeah, on reflection Underworld is using all of the seed's source so it makes sense. It's just coming into play way more than in previous seasons so it threw me.

Leave it to SAO to absolutely squander a season and a half of tension building. We were led to believe the dark country invasion was going to be so devastating the better option was to destroy the entire world. Instead its a mass attack of wet farts.

i mean it's easy to cut down swathes of an army's forces when you a) use a fuckoff massive laser to wipe out a group and b) the enemy themselves kill their own army for a super attack one of your units tanks

Yeah this whole dark army is kind of a wet fart of an invasion. Out of all the forces so far all we've seen is cannon fodder and artillery and the artillery was really easily neutralized.

Maybe the knights will fend better but I doubt it considering Asuna just cheat skilled the lot of them into the ground.

I mean they are/were very clearly losing. They were about to lose their supply base.

The IK have a huge tactical advantage in terms of bottlenecking and they are still getting their poo poo kicked in, and being forced to retreat.

The Generals of the Dark army are able to fight generally on the same level as the Integrity Knights,. Meanwhile the main villian hasn't done poo poo but sit on his pleasure barge. The other Side evil dude moved and almost single-handedly took out the supplies.

This arc still goes some places(sensationally dumb and funny places) It's far from over.

I know the overall strategic situation is supposedly still super bad, but it still feels like any time the dark army is about to threaten anyone even slightly important, boom, magic nuke or secret badass slaughters them.

I went back and double checked the login episode and how the hell is Asuna suddenly god? I thought they said the only high level accounts they had access to were like, nobles*. But suddenly we got holes opening in the ground and aurora borealises popping up. I mean don't get me wrong, it makes sense that they should have the account password for the light goddess, but they never showed or mentioned it before. Plus the dumbasses didn't lock the dark god account with apparently unlimited system control so frankly I don't trust them to do anything competent.

*and then I checked older episodes and it looks like those accounts aren't even that much stronger than Kirito was way earlier in the series. I mean, I know being close to Kirito is much like being a god but still :rimshot:

I'm fine with them sticking around so far as at least once per episode someone does something really cool to wreck them. Though it is funny that so far between the all the dark knights, mages, ogres, etc, the most successful enemy troops seem to be the guys who punch things real hard. I mean, they didn't win, and they didn't take out an IK like the mages did, but I don't think they suffered any casualties, it looked like just a lot of maimings.

Spoilers for something that's about to be explained

Only the bad guys didn't have access to the god accounts of the empire. They neglected to secure those equivalent accounts in the dark territory which is what the bad guys had to use. The Ocean turtle team would obviously have the credentials to log people into the god accounts.

Most of the time I forget SAO is a harem anime but then an episode like this one comes along to smash you in the face with it. my favorite part of SAO is Kirito and Asuna's relationship so I really got the feels when they met up. the sword fight and the overworld explination made up for some of the harem business and honestly I don't even mind that all that much since in general they seem to keep it to a minimum.

You'd think Asuna would have mentioned the part where they were (kind of) married, that they have an adopted AI daughter, and, like, that he saved her from an arranged marriage and they're talking about getting for real married now.
Plus Alice neglected to mention that Kirito has been in a weird coma the entire time she's been taking care of him and sharing a bed without his consent, but those would not be a point in her favor.

Also, how the gently caress was the time they lived together only two weeks? I thought it was at least a few months.

The harem stuff is extra annoying because it's just sorta tacked on next to a committed relationship that feels pretty solid. That time could be so much better spent on more scifi stuff, more action sequences, exploring Kirito's PTSD more, giving Kirito a personality outside of his PTSD and Generic Hero status, or, you know, writing more of the established relationship that's been going since season one

Well, RIP to Alice's time as the main character. You had a good run, kid.

Also, lol at Asuna showing up and decimating these poor digi-babbies' whole worldview in one episode* after a whole season of Kirito dancing around the subject and just pretending to have amnesia with Eugeo (and Alice for their brief time teaming up). I guess it helps your credibility when you show up and immediately employ god mode.

*mad props to Bercouli taking it in stride. "Yeah there are other lands out here, gently caress it, why not other worlds?"

e: Really did not expect to see Kirito's knight teacher show up again. I'm sure she was a much bigger player in the source but she was in the show for like 1, maybe 1 and a half episodes?

I'll give the series points for at least keeping the lines extremely short so they are at least gramatically accurate even if the pronunciation could be better.

That way, the Engrish is actually funny and helps make the scenes better even if for the wrong reasons instead of just being painful.
