The Last Jedi and everything in it is good, actually.

TLJ wanted so desperately to be The Empire Strikes Back.

I recall that in the old EU the civil war basically continued for like another 15 years or so? I dont really get the new post ROTJ lore because its so counter to how actual civil wars resolve. Ultimately there will be a sole winner. The new lore seems like it basically stalls out until the New Order restarts the war.

That guy is the same one from the prison, right? I think he's also in Rogue One.

I've been mulling over this just now. It sounds almost like they created this plotline to sell the series to Kathleen Kennedy.

Okay, music chat. I don't rate ATOC's score at all but TPM and ROTS are both S tier on the same level as ANH and ESB. RotJ is below them as it's mostly reuse, the terminally boring Luke & Leia theme, and lovely Jabba/Ewok stuff. Only Sheev's theme is any cop.

RotJ has the Battle of Endor theme which loving owns.

Two problems with Rogue One Tarkin were that they pulled the camera too close in and they made him too expressive.

I think it would have been much more powerful if it was the huge buildup with a lot more people, then an overhead shot showing stormtroopers on all the rooftops and cut away as you hear blaster fire. Sell the inevitability and hopelessness of it rather than wow, what a cool fight! They might pull this off! The empire had 3 years to set this up.

Oh i think it works just as intended. The empire wants casualties to show how dastardly Ghorms really are. Losing some rubes is all part of the plan. I also assume that the massacre continued into the streets over the next days or weeks.

2 questions for lore people.

Did Tarkin decide to destroy Alderaan or did Sheev instruct him to do it. It always seemed like Tarkin's independent decision to me.

How badly did building the Death Star and then DS2 gently caress up the Empire's economy?

I do appreciate that there are fitting ends. The Empire always eats its own regardless of rank.

Dedra's ending circumstances feel so much worse than when Cassian was in the same cell. Dedra has no family, and the only people who knew her are all dead. No one will ask questions about her, no one will be looking for her. For all intents and purposes she is erased as a person.

Bix's baby is obviously Poe Damoran and since Ep 7 takes place 30 years after ROTJ the age lines up to Oscar's age when they were making Ep 7.

After watching Rogue One and ANH yesterday, I will say that the main issues with Tarkin for me are basically that the R1 version is lighted incorrectly, and there are far too many closeups of Tarkin's face. Not sure I can adequately quanitify it, but in ANH, there are maybe one or two closeups of Tarkin's face (and one in profile). Most shots of Tarkin are usually kept more at a distance.

Dark Empire holds a special place for me. On the one hand, I love the weird monochrome art style and overall story. On the other hand, it caused the sin of effectively nullifying Vader's sacrifice, but it also alived Bobby Fett which is a worse sin.

I forgot about the meltdown of the ISB!

But then you also have the deaths of the DS scientists, who died as a result of a Rebel air raid (that Krennic killed them is unimportant), with Krennic conveniently also present and not killed as well. Then Krennic dies (of which Tarkin made sure).

Add all the pieces up and the days between the end of Andor and end of Rogue One are freakin wild!

The original ESB text crawl suggests that Vader is already looking for young Skywalker. Vader then states thst he is sure Skywalker is with them when the admiral is reviewing the probe footage. However its only later during his Zoom call with Palpy that Skywalker's full name and heritage is revealed. Its setup as if its the first time Vader is learning these details. I wonder if the scene was intended to be earlier in the film.
