Excellent OP!

And yeah, Forces of Destiny frequently did cool stuff (though more so in the 2nd season) like recanonizing the Gorax and revealing that Ahsoka lowkey knew about Anakin & Padme:

This makes Resistance S1 the longest Star Wars TV season since S4 of The Clone Wars, which was 22 eps as well.

Those were some solid episodes. Definitely stronger, especially on the dialogue side, than Rebels was at the start.

Stuff I liked:
- The Colossus has a nice sense of personality and community even this early on
- Music reminds me of the iMuse score on the early X-Wing games
- The flight visuals are a dream
- The character designs are interesting and varied (that freaking furry janitor alien)

Stuff I was eh on:
- I said the dialogue was stronger than early Rebels, but it still has a ways to go
- The now-traditional S1 filler eps (though I'll grant that the pirates and the other flight crew will definitely be recurring characters)
- And yeah, it is most definitely "for kids" though there is still quite a bit of nuance here and there (Senator Dad calling the Resistance "extremists" is an interesting touch)

I feel like I've heard an anecdote somewhere about how Lucas personally phoned Gareth Edwards after seeing Rogue One and told him how much he liked the film.

Regardless, I doubt Lucas could have anything near a objective-ish opinion about the new movies considering how he feels about selling out to Disney in the first place.

As far as I'm aware nobody forced him to sell the company, but that point notwithstanding, it would be fun if he would just put his cards on the table and say he doesn't like them. All the beating about the bush is tiresome and it would be amusing to see some big fight in the media between him and Lucasfilm. He's basically retired at this point so it's not like he's at any great risk of being blacklisted from Hollywood or anything.

Probably still too friendly with Kennedy or something.

I was referring to his “selling out to the white slavers” quip from an interview shortly after TFA’s release.

Regardless I think I could go without George Lucas becoming an alt-right figurehead because you’d just know that’s how it’d go down in this current climate.

"Alt-right figurehead" was a bit much, yeah

I guess I was going more for a "Mark Hamill having reservations about TLJ Luke" situation but 10x as volatile and without the whole "but I was fine with it afterwards" bit

Today's ep had a bit too much running back and forth down corridors - feels like we got enough of that from the freighter episode - but it almost was retroactively made worth it by Leia hinting at the New Republic Senate's corruption via the arms trade. Keep that world-building coming.

S2 starts up in the fall, probably October. I'm thinking that they'll be well into post-TLJ by the time IX comes out. (I mean, TFA and TLJ take place in a few days time, they can only stretch that out on the show to a given extent)

Some Mandalorian tidbits:

- The titular character's ship may be called the Razorcrest and is a Clone-Wars-era ship
- Said ship also apparently has the ability to carbon freeze occupants
- 8 episodes, targeting 40-45 minutes each, are currently in production.

The latest Resistance episode was one of those "all-ages" plots that can be a bit frustrating as they slowly get to the teachable moment/reveal, but the action was solid, and Kaz's skills being noticed by Captain Doza and the continued development of Synara was interesting enough to carry me through.

Tam making the point to Yeager that they've indulged Kaz that many times so it's only fair to do the same for Neeku was a good moment too.

Yeah, this episode was one where my expectations started somewhere in the gutter due to the video description, but ended up pleasantly surprised by the end product. Also, any episode with the amount of HYPE FAZON that this one had is cool in my book.

This is fully in the weeds and I know the answer is that "it's a star wars cartoon for children," but that part has never, ever made sense to me. This huge spaceport has need for defenses on a pretty regular basis but their defenses are... a half dozen race pilots, several of whom are literal children (how old is Kaz supposed to be anyway)?

I spent most of that episode thinking about the station.

Torra is the only actual kid on the squadron. Kaz is 19 or 20.

The Colossus also has a bunch of turrets but I think they got blown up the last time the platform got attacked by pirates.
