Some of the people I've seen converted, and I mean latinos which is the side of my world, seem to fall for the "being part of something big". Then add the rampant problem of misogyny in a lot of our countries and you see them falling easier to other creepy movements that overlap with the gators. I have an old classmate from middleschool that has been parroting incel talking points mixed with nerdy hoobies. Then there's other dude who quickly spiraled to "Why are people so offended? Honestly I think a lot of members of the groups fall into that category too. Like I can believe they like video games/movies/comics whatever but they're not Fans in the way they like to declare themselves to be. A vast majority of them seem to have less knowledge of what they claim to be the ultrafans of than a wikipedia summary. You can see that a lot of complaints are just 'passed along' from someone higher up and repeated without critical thought or care, just a desire to attack something that 'offends' them.

I think that was evident a while ago, like when they complained about stuff like Jane Thor or Sam Cap. Anyone who reads comics know it's not the first time either's been replaced, and knew full well that things would eventually return to normal. Ed Brubaker is not happy with how he and Steve Epting have been treated by Marvel.

Ed Brubaker posted:

And of course, today the FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER show debuts on Disney+, which I sadly have very mixed feelings about. I'm really happy for Sebastian Stan, who I think is both a great guy and the perfect Bucky/Winter Soldier, and I'm glad to see him getting more screen time finally. Also, Anthony Mackie is amazing as the Falcon, and everyone at Marvel Studios that I've ever met (all the way up to Kevin Feige) have been nothing but kind to me... but at the same time, for the most part all Steve Epting and I have gotten for creating the Winter Soldier and his storyline is a "thanks" here or there, and over the years that's become harder and harder to live with. I've even seen higher-ups on the publishing side try to take credit for my work a few times, which was pretty galling (to be clear, I'm NOT talking about Tom Breevort, who was a great editor and really helpful).

So yeah, mixed feeling, and maybe it'll always be like that (but I sure hope not). Work-for-hire work is what it is, and I'm honestly thrilled to have co-created something that's become such a big part of pop culture - or even pop subculture with all the Bucky-Steve slash fiction - and that run on Cap was one of the happiest times of my career, certainly while doing superhero comics. Also, I have a great life as a writer and much of it is because of Cap and the Winter Soldier bringing so many readers to my other work. But I also can't deny feeling a bit sick to my stomach sometimes when my inbox fills up with people wanting comments on the show.

So... I'm sure I'll watch it, and you should too if you're a Marvel movie universe fan, but I'll probably be waiting a while to check it out myself. So please don't email me any spoilers, I guess, but go give Sebastian Stan lots of love wherever he is online.

Yeah, we've had the letter sent in response to Giant-Size X-Men posted before which in essence goes "I hate this entire new team because minorities and also Colossus being a Soviet, please get rid of the entire new team except Wolverine and Banshee can come back for a guest appearance now and then. I have been kind of apprehensive about posting this, but am I allowed to talk about my own experience?

I used to (still rarely do) make webcomics. I was probably the most successful around the mid-2000s. I have been working to rebuild my life and figure out WTF is wrong with me since an early mid-life crisis in 2014. Got diagnosed with ADHD in 2019 and ASD last year. It has been a wild ride.

In 2015, I got caught in a psychological meat-grinder between an established indie comic creator, and a "comics podcaster" you almost certainly haven't heard of. My story is about 12k words, according to WordPress. But there are lots of pictures. I emailed the indie comic creator a whole lot after we broke up, due to the way he treated me and my brain generally being goo at the time. He eventually posted a blog on his own site making me out to be a stalker that he was living in terror of... even though he repeatedly came to conventions where he knew I would have a booth/table, and he was friends with my current partner. Hashtag-men-are-victims-too. There's a Project Veritas-inspired fake Facebook page about me, and a lawsuit threat accusing me of defamation for exposing them.

I think it's a pretty entertaining read, at least. Let me know if it's okay to post here.

Content Warning: Grooming, Psychological Abuse, Sexual Trauma, Home Invasion

Jin Wicked posted:

My personal relationship with Mr. Strode began long-distance over the Internet, when I was 18 and he was in his mid-30s. Mr. Strode has a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, and was aware at that time of my abusive childhood, miserable home situation, and emotional/psychological instability. He enthusiastically took a flight to Houston, where I lived with my family, in 1999 to see me in person and have physical/sexual contact with me. In 2000, he helped me “escape” by temporarily moving me into his home in Chaska where, being on my own for the first time and scared, we briefly resumed our sexual relationship. It is my personal opinion that, deliberately or not, Mr. Strode took advantage of my loneliness, naivete, and lack of life experience to amuse and gratify himself. I was visibly more immature and impulsive than my peers in my teens and early 20s. I was finally diagnosed with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 39 and 40, respectively.

In the months leading up to and following my return to Minnesota in 2015, Mr. Strode continually over-stepped personal boundaries with favours and gifts, used excessive fawning and flattery to manipulate me, made me uncomfortable with his obvious attraction to and sexual desire for me, deliberately got me intoxicated in situations where I would be reliant on him, latched onto my resurgent comics career and personal progress as a mechanism to congratulate himself, made me feel like his personal “show pony” at conventions and events, allegedly lied about my past and our relationship history to mutual friends, and groomed me into a state of debilitating anxiety and learned helplessness. When he finally went too far by “cleaning up my apartment” and left me feeling raped, traumatized, and unsafe in my own home, and in my personal opinion I no longer served my purpose to make him feel better about himself, he discarded me.

He let himself into my apartment while I was at work one day to "help" me.

He did have keys for emergencies. Or when I first moved to Saint Paul, he would leave packages right inside my door for me if I had something shipped to his house. But this time, he let himself into my apartment and cooked and cleaned all day, filled my fridge and freezer with $200-$300 worth of food (most of which I did not like), left a handwritten note about how much he cares about me on my dinner table (the table is its own story), left a handwritten note about how much he cares about me on my bed, washed all my bed linens, washed all my clothes including my dirty underwear, put everything back in all the wrong drawers and places (I am autistic remember), and left mints on my bed pillows. This man knew about the childhood abuse I suffered where my parents habitually snooped on me and I had no sense of privacy or security what-so-ever. Then he argued with me about it. Insisted the mints were "funny." I had to see a bunch of mutual friends try to cheer him up after this in my Facebook feed, calling themselves the "Cory Strode Fan Club."

Eventually he and his friends (especially his podcast co-host) turned it into a running joke.

His lady-friend accused me of fabricating the abusive messages she wrote, and threatened to sue me.

Good times.

Honestly there's no good reason for someone 30+ to be forming relationships with anyone under the age of 21(at a minimum), and every time I see it come up, even in the context of 'technically legal' it raises massive red flags. In the fandom communities over the last several years, from youtubers, to video games, etc. it's coming out how so many of the toxic abuse stories start with someone 18 or even younger and a person with a decade+ on them usually exploiting their youth or naivete, insisting that "this is just how adults are" to defend gaslighting and lovely treatment.

With the whole room/apartment I'm not too big on keeping my space super clean and organized, but if someone did that poo poo to me I'd be restraining myself from putting their head through a wall because I didn't ask for it and I don't want someone rooting all through my personal belongings. That's even without a history of being snooped on by my family. It's one of those dumb romcom gestures that makes people look good absent context but is an amazingly useful tool for abusers.

My autobiography goes into excruciating detail, but this guy treated me like a loving fetish to the point that over time my friends started commenting on it. Making goo-goo eyes at me, touching me and up in my personal space, entitled rants about how much he's done for me behind my back, etc. Chronic "nice guy" syndrome, with the added bonus of being able to parade me around as his personal pet comic book artist Who He Helped To Succeed to inflate his own ego.

So yeah, when I knew he had been handling my dirty underwear: it was the closest I have felt to being raped.

Someone messaged me on Facebook today and gave me evidence that he has been lying about the details of our relationship to people, so I said gently caress it and decided to throw up a post about him tonight.

https://blog.jinwicked.com/2021/03/27/cory-strode-the-wrong-people/

I really, really regret trying to be understanding and not filing a police report about his "cleaning day."

He engaged in a lot of grooming behaviours based on what he had already established with me when I was very young, and the fact that when I reconnected with him as an adult I was confused and vulnerable. I have been sharing snippets randomly behind the paywall on my Patreon, but I will eventually make the whole thing public.

The goo-goo eyes and adult grooming stuff happened in 2014-2016 while we were "friends," for lack of a better description. My partner lives with me now, and I had my locks changed quite some time ago. I also own firearms. Everything since then has been limited to the Internet. I have not seen Cory in person since September of 2016 IIRC.

I moved to Saint Paul in September of 2015. The apartment-cleaning incident happened in July of 2016. Paszkiewicz posted his blog outing me as a "stalker" in October of 2018. The "Jin Wicked Veritas" page ran from then until early 2020. It disappeared very suddenly when I started making public noises about publishing a #MeToo blog of my own.

The lawsuit threat for the "defamation" of Stephanie Cofell happened in November of 2020.

I booted him from the mailing list (I think the subscriber receives a notice when I do that), blocked those IPs, and found his Facebook account and blocked him there, too.

Not that it matters or makes a difference... just because I can.

(His law firm was protesting in support of George Floyd, and he seems like a decent guy, FWIW.)

I went through my digital file archives and physical "old photos" box and added a ton of images to the post about Cory. Especially how much of my comic work he has appeared in, because I have got him through two third-parties 100% lying about both my past and his relationship(s) with me. I built him a website in 1999. He has been in my autobio comics and written stuff for my books. I drew a webcomic for about two years written by this guy, for free, because I wanted to work together with him. At this point it feels like he has literally taken advantage of me every way possible, and now he is trying to take advantage of me one last time by shutting me down entirely.

I have hours of his livestreams, so I am gonna FFWD through it looking for my appearances, to see if I can find anymore examples of him making googly-eyes at me or being gross on video. I am just absolutely done with these people.

At least Paszkiewicz was smart enough to let me say my piece and leave me alone.

I like that Geoff gets someone to come to his defense saying "Look he put Cyborg on the team in the first place, nobody knows more about how to do Cyborg right!" when everyone was rightfully making GBS threads on Johns for putting Cyborg on the team because it was so terribly done. You loving know that Johns fed that bullshit line to someone.

"Geoff would like to be referred to as Lebanese-American in the article"

Fuckin' hell.
