For less knee-jerk misgivings with such a development, it really depends on how we reach that conclusion. I mean I've read works by Kui where there isn't a happy ending for individuals or obvious solutions to a larger societal problem and the differences between how races age is in the latter category. So if Marcille specifically is granted a comparable life to someone she's romantically interested in I'd be fine with that since that means we don't have to solve the global situation. I'm just trying to figure out what form that can take. Since we now have the information that dungeons naturally lock down souls and Thistle is probably just doing something else to the royal family bodies, and Mistrum never actually got his sister back just a chimera that looked like her. The actual ability for demons to fullfill someone's desires is somewhat questionable. So maybe Marcille finds a way to use the changling mushrooms without the threat of becoming Matango after a while but I think the solution to her aging dilemma will be something she figures out on her own.

YUKIMURAAAA!
Obviously when they get Falin back she'll have an extended lifespan from being part dragon now.

I mean, this brings up whether the different lifespans are a problem for the plot in the first place. They definitely seem to be connected to some social stratification that I would love to see the characters try to combat, but that social stratification appears to be based on prejudice, bigotry and stereotyping rather than the inherent fact of some people having longer or shorter lifespans in this world.

In the scenario where Marcille does become the Dungeon Master, I think what she wishes for is for a dungeon where lifespans aren't a problem, and it ends up framed as a bad choice because she's not combating any actual real societal harm, she's combating her own fear of death. It's a parallel to how Thistle made a dungeon where he could protect the king and the kingdom but just ended up trapping them in horrible immortality- they'd both be following their own personal desires at the cost of causing suffering and their minds being warped by power. I don't think the Marcille character arc ends with her having a "fixed" "normal" lifespan, I think it ends with her coming to terms with her life as a half-elf and thus her fear of death and loss. She adjusts to the life cycle of the world, like the life cycle of the dungeon.

...I also think this may mean we're gearing up for an ending where Falin has to permanently die, or can't come back without a gigantic cost that prevents her from living normally.

That's not how the Triangle Attack works...
Marcille tells Laios and Falin that the only way to keep Falin alive is to carve out Laios's digestive system and put her head in its place, ala Krang from TMNT/Stray Cat + Killer Queen from Jojo. Next panel shows smiles lighting up on both their faces.

Please forgive my grandpa, he’s an old-fashioned elf, they didn’t know any better in his time.

Mithrun is older than the other Canaries by about 40-50 years, except for Pattadol, who is the youngest by far at 82.

Mithrun doesn't care about anything, which includes updating his vocabulary as time goes on.

Someone needs to convince him that creating a better, more inclusive society will help stop demons or something.

Edit: VVV Oh yeah, I liked the detail that everyone else was horrified or at least put off by that, even the ones who are normally aloof or unpleasant.

Huh, that kind of seems to indicate that elf society's views on what's acceptable to say in public changed rather rapidly by elf standards. Nice implied worldbuilding there.
Also, modern elves obviously still feel entitled to forcibly fix other peoples' problems without even telling them what these problems are, but it's okay because they totally don't consider those other people inferior anymore. There's probably a parable in there. (To be clear, I'm not ragging on inclusive language here. Especially when "inferior" is apparently a term that makes even Fleki look absolutely horrified.)

keeping the details of demons secret is probably for the best. sure, no one knows what to watch out for, but at least they don't have tons of crazies actively seeking out demons. those fuckers grant wishes, and none of the caveats would stop anyone sufficiently determined, desperate or delusional.

I wonder if you could get around the whole "Demon devours the Dungeon Master" thing by just finding a really burnt out and soul crushed bureaucrat to run it purely out of obligation and scheduling.

No desires, only logistics.

Yes, but for the same reason the demon who ate Misurn's desires abandoned him afterwards: It wouldn't get what it wanted from helping him past that point. Which is the issue with Crain's idea; a demon probably just wouldn't bother with someone like that, because they have no reason to do so instead of just remaining hidden until more appetizing prey comes along. At most, they'd do something like play along with the "bad" prey in order to lure in people more to their tastes, at which point they'd probably ditch their former "master" as soon as possible.

The Winged Lion just pulled off something similar, after all; while Thistle was good prey to it, between trapping it and his desires having "ripened" it decided it was time to finally feed and led Laios and company where it needed them to be. A demon under the "command" of someone without the knowledge and level of power needed to imprison it the way Thistle did with the Lion could easily do something like that too. Binding demons, as far as we've seen, isn't the norm in this world; they assist their prey because they want the eventual payoff, rather than being forced into it, so they'd have to believe there would be a payoff.

Yeah, between her being hungover, her having the tome right there and her being alone with the captain, who is extremely powerful, hostile towards anything demon related and not exactly the most reasonable individual, her panicking and hastily making the pact with the demon to defend herself/save the group seems extremely likely.

Also I usually hate elves, but Canaries are incredible and are pretty high on the ladder of my favorite characters in DM. :allears:
