As a Microsoft co-founder, the 'memorial' on the company's webpage seems extremely... low effort No portfolio, or timeline showcasing all the things he has done? No photos of Paul Allen ~through the years~ or anything? The PR team really couldn't craft a more thoughtful statement? lovely, much like their products and services. Maybe they really hated him lol.

I doubt there's anyone still left at MS who actually worked with him, let alone knew him.

i like that posted:I hope he repented before he died but that seems highly unlikely given his sinful celebrity-schmoozing lifestyle before death. Should have used those billions to make the world a better place, because as he just found out, you cannot take your numerous 'sports teams' and dumb guitars (which are cool admittedly) with you to the afterlife. Sad! there's some movie star in japan that had enough yen that it equaled about 700 million dollars and he said gently caress it and donated most of it to charity. dude gets his clothes as the thrift store and has had the same mobile for 17 years and said that none of the fancy stuff brought him any happiness as opposed to actually helping millions of people through charity so yea it turned out being some miserable miser living in a dumbass palace with no real friends or connections is lovely and helping everyone you can makes you life own really hard

There are plenty of people who changed the course of history, but I don't know how much that applies to already emerging technologies and their usefulness. In some cases, it is very much opportunity knocking and distinct from pure genius. Just my two cents, but this guy ain't gonna take credit for the whole PC revolution. No single man can. It was the work of decades and we could easily say that WE are in the right place and right time to reap the benefits.
