Just a couple notes: -I ask that you don't post any spoilers of any kind in this thread, as this is a pretty story-driven game. That includes using tags. -I just FINISHED doing a playthrough of In Cold Blood! -I'm also streaming every Wednesday and Saturday at 8pm EST On Twitch. Currently going through Hollow Knight. -Streams are later uploaded on my YouTube, so you can catch up. Jamesman fucked around with this message at 05:24 on Apr 26, 2019 |

Do you consider things that would've happened differently as spoilers? Also, the premise of this game is kinda stupid. "Hey, let's party like porn stars in the place where my sisters disappeared! I invited the very people that indirectly caused that incident!"

This is a good rear end game

At this time, I would prefer any of that remain out of the thread, as there might be a chance I will continue beyond an initial playthrough and explore different choices. Right now, though, I just intend to finish the game blind and see where it goes from there. Since this game definitely seems to be trying to emulate a horror movie or TV show, I'm willing to forgive the somewhat silly premise as it looks like we're doing a "dumb teen slasher" thing: How many drat times did they try to reopen Camp Crystal Lake? Herr Tog posted:This is a good rear end game I'm getting some Heavy Rain vibes so far, and I'm one of the people that really enjoyed Heavy Rain, so I'm hoping this will be just as good or better (and without any David Cage). So how is it that no one was able to find the bodies? Or the phone? Or the one 'person of interest' who disappeared? Does the sheriff just suck at her job? I'm also stuck wondering if that 'loving' is intensifier or participle. (Gerund is also possible, but that would imply there are non-loving porn stars).

Jamesman posted:I'm getting some Heavy Rain vibes so far, and I'm one of the people that really enjoyed Heavy Rain, so I'm hoping this will be just as good or better (and without any David Cage). It's arguably better, because this game is more comfortable with being just a movie (where you can pick who dies) instead of going for some high concept experience.

Subscribed for more Peter Stormare! The David Cage vibes are very strong so far, yes. The psych personality test on the player is even a thing Cage used in Detroit: Become Human. My impression from the first 30 minutes is that it does the same things, but a tad better, so I just hope there won't be a revelation that everyone is ancient aliens or we get swatted with some heavy handed philosophical lessons. But yeah; minimal gameplay, branching paths, super detailed faces with detailed pores and tears, cinematic cutscenes, voice actor likeness on the models... it all reeks of Cage. I'm also a little reminded of the old PS2 game "ObsCure", that also emulated teen slashers by both having a playable prologue leading to protagonist death and having the characters for the rest of the game be expendable.

I know essentially nothing about this game other than the title, so I'm going in as blind as you I guess. Seems alright so far, though it seems kind of janky in general. It sticks out more when these games try and be fully cinematic since things like the voice syncing isn't quite right. Also that psychiatrist was eager to shoo you out after like two minutes of talking, sure hope he doesn't expect you to pay for that.

So what's your update schedule on this, Jamesman? I'm going into this just as blind as you are and I'm pretty pumped to see where it takes us.

I played this once long ago. And having played it in a normal manner, picking the options that make the most sense to me, I want to go back and see all the other outcomes, like being a dick and shooting the squirrel and what other obvious 'be a huge dick' options I passed on when I played.

I've been struggling with that feeling too. "Well, they're all friends, so let's pick logical options and avoid silly drama" is how I'm playing at the moment. And that DOES make for an interesting story to me because you're not latching on to every decision that feels like it would escalate poo poo, and instead it just rounds out characterization. "Chris saw a squirrel on the shooting range, considered shooting it, but didn't because he's not a total psycho (but he did consider it)" is much more interesting to me than "Chris immediately takes an opportunity to kill a little squirrel, and you question why anybody is friends with him." Also, hey? Who the gently caress just leaves loaded rifles laying around like that? What, there hasn't been enough death or something on this mountain?
|
![]() |
|
Were those actual rifles or just air rifles? Didn't sound very loud, but then there's the question of why there's an air rifle shooting range there. It's maybe worth saying that a 'sanatorium' in the mountains, 99% of the time = place where people go to decrease progress of tuberculosis. More like 'hotel/health spa' than 'hotel/mental asylum'. Usually the mental hospital is a 'sanitarium', but there's no necessary distinction between the two words. I'm not even sure the game knows the difference. I'm sure

|
Yeah, I figured it was just an old-timey wellness center, but I really like the idea of it being an actual hotel and mental asylum. Like a Marriott with alternating floors for guests and mental patients. I imagine we'll be finding our way there before the game's end.

Hi hello, have an extra episode for Halloween.![]() Ashley and Chris were the only characters whose names didn't come up in the prologue, their names appear in Beth's relationship status screen. Ashley is with the group when doing the prank, and Chris is passed out across from Josh. So that accounts for everyone, with the exception of our mysterious murder friend.

I have a feeling your attempts to keep everything light with the dialogue choices are just gonna blow up in your face, since we now have two different relationships with cheaters in a setting where everyone seems to like splitting up. These stupid kids are going to walk off and get themselves killed, aren't they

These stupid kids are going to walk off and get themselves killed, aren't they I don't know if anyone's cheating on anybody. Mike and Emily broke up, now Mike is with Jess and Emily is with Matt. Something MIGHT still be going on with Emily and Mike, but we can't say for sure. As you can see in this video, everyone is getting along just fine. ![]() I'm absolutely going to be missing things, since this is a blind playthrough, and I already know I missed some stuff. Here's my plan. -Finish a chapter blind. -Look at a list of collectables for the chapter to see what I missed. -Do a second playthrough where I collect everything. -At the end of each chapter, include those collectables I missed. Then after we finish the game, I will be considering a second, truncated playthrough that showcases alternate paths from the Butterfly Effect choices. I remember seeing some trailers for this, actually curious to see how it turns out. What I remember from the trailers/early gameplay demos was that it felt like it had a decent degree of patience with like... mundane spookiness, the raccoon or whatever in the bathroom, darkness, isolation, cold, etc. before it would eventually resort to some monster or maniac with an axe. Also, not having played it or read anything about it, I'm gonna hedge my bets that whoever the weirdo in the mask is, he's gonna turn out to be the one chasing the real bad guy or just a harmless crazy person. Because it just feels like the game is pushing him way too hard as the source of spookiness, feels like it's gonna be some sort of trick. And while the facial animations are just... just off enough to be comical or weirdly unsettling, the actual dialogue does feel decently well-done for the most part. Less so the weird sexy play or bitchiness, but the more light-hearted stuff feels decently well-written.

This is the thing I was thinking but didn't want to say because I didn't want to "call it" by the second or third episode. I don't exactly know how on-the-level the mystery man is gonna end up being, but it certainly seemed like he wasn't so much terrorizing/chasing people as he was preoccupied with something that needed a flamethrower to deal with. When Beth and Hannah fall, it looked like he was reaching out to help them. I don't know if it's meant to be obvious or not, but then it brings up the question; What else is in these mountains?

The_Frag_Man posted:Are the videos too dark, or is it just me? Anyone else have input on this? The brightness levels should be set where the game intends them to be, but the game also intends for it to be pretty dark (horror game set in the dead of night in the wilderness, and all that).

Looks fine to me, I'm not noticing any serious black crush or anything like that. I haven't played Until Dawn, but it seems to me like the game is supposed to be this dark.

I think it could be a tiny bit brighter, but it's not marring the experience. I can't see every detail in the shadows, but I think it's supposed to be like that for the atmosphere.

Considering you seem to have trouble identifying the totem colors (honestly I have no idea what color they're supposed to be when you find them) I just assumed the game was supposed to be really dark, and it wasn't your recording.

Here is the game with the brightness settings adjusted how the game intends.![]() Here is the game with the brightness at max. ![]() And here's the game at brightness set between the previous two. ![]() So it's pretty much just lightening what's already there, but the darks remain relatively dark. I can keep this in mind next time I record and up the brightness a bit if you think it helps, but don't expect a world of difference. Also for some reason imgur is making those images darker, which I don't quite understand, so each example should be just a hair lighter than what you're actually seeing. Jamesman posted:Here is the game with the brightness settings adjusted how the game intends. This comparison is pretty good. I would boost the brightness so I can see what was going on, since it's still "dark". All the textures and detail disappear at the intended brightness, look at that back wall for example.

The detail is visible in the original screenshot. I'd say the third picture, on imgur, is close to the brightness of the first screenshot before being uploaded to imgur. Why, I have no idea. But that said, I did adjust the brightness in post for the next couple videos, and will up the brightness through the game in future recordings to see if any of this looks nicer.

Aw, there was a MAJESTIC ELK just before the Birdscare(tm). Also what popped up in front of the binoculars looked kinda like a mauled face with one eye left. Maybe we're gonna get snow zombies.

![]() Back after a short holiday hiatus. This video took me a while to put together, but hopefully I will have a better understanding of how to handle it in the future so I won't have to replay things 4 frigging times in order to make sure I get all the footage I want. Half this video is a "wrap-up" going over clues and noting a few little things. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Is it too potentially spoiler-y to share my thoughts on where the story's going? Is it a little redundant to look at all the totems again? Things like that. Also I've noticed that most of my views are coming from people not subscribed to my channel, so this is one of the rare times I ask you to consider subscribing if you're enjoying the stuff I'm putting out.

I like the wrap-up, maybe not every episode will have enough content for one, but they're nice to have from time to time, because watching the videos it can be hard to keep track of all the clue snippets we get. I think I can already make a guess at who/what our killer is, though, based on two things: the parts you had of the totem-unlocked video, and the fact that we're dealing with North American Native mythology. I'll just spoiler it, to be on the safe side. From the video clips at the very end: HUMAN FLESH says the voice about midway through. Next cut is to a list that says: CONSUME and TRANSFORM among the terms on it. So, cannibal cravings inducing a transformation? It may just be a wild goose chase, but my guess is we're dealing with either an actual Wendigo, some guy who thinks he's a Wendigo, or someone who just ate a lot of human flesh and went insane. PM me if you'd like me to delete it or anything, I'm not sure how much back-seat theorizing you're up for dealing with. I'm also curious what happens at the very start if you choose to drop Hannah, does the surviving sister get pulled up by the guy, or is it just a false choice sorta thing to gently caress with you? Considering this game, I could suspect either.

I'm fine with speculation (half of this last video was just that), and I appreciate it being in spoiler tags. I also think you're on the right track. Of course that's just one piece of the puzzle, and we still need to see how all this plays out. The prologue seems to be an inevitability, based on everything said and done after that point, so my best guess is you and Beth get to feel a brief moment of guilt before the other
