Man people were throwing down some nasty lines in bear creek today and fortunately there’s an observation deck with beer and fireworks A) the wave, from the top of Wasatch Mountain B) the hairy banana, we watched a group of six do this and the repel in the bottom part looked a little...hairy C) bear face, probably one of the most beautiful lines you can crush from the resort here Not pictured: Hilaree Nelson?, our wedding photographer, and a North Face video crew skiing Ballard Mtn which is maybe another hour of skiing and skinning along that ridge and very spicy. I also did some good couloir skiing today but jesus nothing like that. Here are the inbounds ones: Moot .1415926535 fucked around with this message at 05:34 on Mar 28, 2021 |

wilfredmerriweathr posted:Skiing is much more natural starting out. You can basically put anyone, from a 3 year old to an older adult on skis and it's sort of natural to be able to at least stand up and slowly maneuver them around. Like was said above if you have ever ice skated, skiing is really easy to get started with (at a beginner level that is). Body mechanics and awareness are so much more important on skis. I dig it, but man snowboarding is just so much more flowy and natural for me. But like you said, boardsports. I am having some serious jealousy now that I’m a 9-5er. Once the snowpack stabilizes here it’s just so goddamn good and people are getting some crazy good tours in. Good looks spwrozek. Go get it. It’s probably the number that AirDNA spits out which is skewed by the offseason. My company’s cheapest two bedroom is about $425/nt right now.

Unfortunate.

Orange extreme was the level of lockdown they made up between orange and red here so they didn’t have to totally shut down. One end of the county is basically unpopulated desert while the other is a ski resort that was having a bad case spike, so they got creative with the averages. They probably should’ve shut down but, as you said, tourist dollars.

Ski patrol anywhere probably has names like that and imo it should be a wide open secret so they have to deal with less of it. There’s one on the beginner side of the mountain here called STP for stupid terrible place because it looks like an awesome rope duck from your double green run until someone has to go down and fish your stupid terrible rear end out of a creek and then sidestep you back up to the run.

Those are sick. I decided not to get rid of my skis because I had a great time crushing slush on them last weekend, but the next pair I buy will be Wagners so I can have exactly that experience. Also I just learned the hard way that the batteries on my camper froze. Thought I was safe, I was not.

No, the rentals would not help pay that mortgage in any significant way. It’s in the residential zone so it’s limited to four short term rentals per year.

Doesn’t really help. Either the house just sits empty 80% of the year or 30+ night stays for lots of money. But the neighborhoods are quieter and it’s on the sunny side of the canyon so it makes the real estate more expensive.

Mount Perisher sounds like it should be way more dangerous than it looks. I have a good friend who was a podiatrist in Aus and just really loves Telluride so she went to boot fitting school to get her green card and boy is that a handy person to know. Good boots make good days. Also I’ve been out of the mountains for a few days but got a push notification that the bike park got shut down due to heavy rain which is good news. Rain pls my forests is dying.

Went to scope out the line off Wilson Peak yesterday. Basically you have to climb up this: And the down the other side of that which is a little steeper, and then up a similar looking climb that is a little longer and steeper. I have no idea how I’m gonna do this in snowboard boots but I do know it’s been done. Top of the line is on the right of this photo: And there’s a little choke about 30 ft down but once you’re through that it looks all good. Still need to figure out the egress back to the trailhead. Also we got caught in a thunderstorm on the way off the mountain and which was a little spooky with the lightning. I heard today that the east end of our county is over 90% vaccinated so I doubt they’ll do any kind of covid restriction other than maybe ‘space out the lift lines’ which was kind of a joke. Unless we get a sweet gamma variant that doesn’t care if you’re vaccinated.

Just got in line to get the boat winterized, starting to put away summer clothes, and starting to think about a new snowboard for the winter. Was in a call today with a bunch of lodging companies from all over the state and it sounds like Breck is beating Telluride for the worst town government and anti-tourist sentiment, which is quite an achievement. e: I also want to add that I really appreciate this thread being temporally located in 2018/2019 and I hope it never changes Moot .1415926535 fucked around with this message at 01:33 on Sep 8, 2021 |

lol I found out today that the ski company owns like ten lots nearby that are designated for low income housing and they’re just sitting on them and have been for six or so years because gently caress the poors I guess. Gonna be a hosed up season (again) when they have 40% of the staff they need (again) to make poo poo run properly. Feel like a big fire is in order.
