my mother is really the ideal late-capitalist political subject since her politics are really oriented in this "populist" celebrity sort of way. politicians she has liked include jesse ventura, obama, kinky friedman, trump (during the campaign), bernie and bastaman. she dropped out of high school. she has more common sense and social brains than my father, however, who is a highly educated succdem who think corey booker would be a good president. he does have "machine gun all the republicans" characteristics though

My parents want everyone to have a good life but oppose anything that will make that a reality. For instance, my Dad thinks everyone should have jobs but opposes a federal job guarantee. He would rather close the borders to all imports until we have everyone employed making stuff here.

My parents are from what was once USSR and they have some awful opinions. One is basically apolitical, the other gets mad whenever various information leaks happen and prove that US isn't some kind of heaven, and is pretty much worse to live in if you are poor enough.

my dad told me literally today that he's still mad about my mom being on welfare when she was like 17 and had twin infants (my brother an I). he said she should have gotten a job instead of leeching off of welfare and also her parents. he's also still butthurt about having to pay child support "to her" when i know she absolutely only used that money for supporting us. oh i also convinced her to go to the state and forgive his like 10 grand in unpaid child support when i was like 23 cause i finally had a job and didn't need the help anymore i'm 33 now fyi he still brings this poo poo up as though it means i owe him my fuckin time cause he paid all that money he was obligated to when i was a child. and he calls people my age entitled what a fuckin joke.

my parents are great, one of my cousins a local democratic legislator and his wife a labor lawyer, several aunts have worked for anti-war and immigrant support organizations, my uncle started his own local anti-gun violence organization, and my brother is a union lobbyist.

my dad would get really mad when you called him racist but would scream slurs while driving if he saw a poc doing anything that annoyed him i once got him to agree with the basic premises of socialism until i actually said "socialism". it was legitimately scary how you could tell some deeply ingrained programming kicked in and he suddenly was against everything he just said he supported. the cold war destroyed the minds of an entire generation

My dad was a conservative until he heard Limbaugh one day and realized the direction American Conservatism was headed and he's slowly radicalized over the years to the point he's probably willing to vote for socialists so that old axiom of young liberal old conservative never held sway in my house. Doesnt help my step grandpa is like 90 and votes straight democrat since like the 90s

i just remember talking to my uncle during the run up to the 08 election. he was talking about how great the bush tax cuts were and how good the economy was thanks to the republicans. this was literally a week before the market crashed lol. the one thing my conservative family was right about though was the fact that obama was lying during the campaign and wasnt going to do anything he promised
