if you bait chara into one of those arcade games where you just start over instead of winning it's like throwing a sack of rice at a vampire

It's technically possible but way harder than it used to be to reverse engineer Game Maker games. There might be decompilers specific to the version of the engine Undertale uses floating around somewhere and if your friends are experienced making their own tools like with any game should be possible.

Even if you get a debugger working it's probably easier to note variable behaviors and use that to spin up an authentic-feeling fangame.

Is the secret clown boss harder on a Genocide run? For some reason I was able to beat it during my pacifist run but I can't manage it on the Genocide path. I can't beat Undertale's genocide boss either so part of it is probably just being Bad At Games but it's weird that I cleared it once and now can't do it again.

if you're fighting aggressively and not pacifying jevil he's gonna be harder, yeah.

I think the big flaw here is that we have some reason to believe all the world building detail about how determination etc. work is different in Deltarune. For example, Susie (a monster) should not be a credible physical threat to Kris (a human). Even a human children are threatening to adult monsters. Human children seem to have repeatedly gone on a tear through the Underground in Undertale, to the point that monsters needed highly trained and powerful specialists to deal with them (Undyne, Asgore, maybe Sans?) and even then human children could give them a very hard time. So if things work in Deltarune exactly like in Undertale, then tbh Kris should be the class bully, or even if not monster parents shouldn't want their kids having anything to do with Kris for fear of a kids' scuffle turning deadly.

otoh, Susie may be too dumb/proud to realize or care about any of this, and/or nobody knows this because Kris never really did anything to harm anyone, so all of that could be completely wrong. :v:

monsters can be physically very powerful, the complicating factor is that their attacks need to land and humans are uniquely able to squirm around them. kris is portrayed as an exceptionally passive person who would just stand there and take abuse at that point in the story.

it's also especially weird because they still do this even if you love Undyne who is equally gay and a woman. I feel like there's a kind of person who really, really, really identifies with alphys and gets internet weird about it to the point where they take people saying bad things about her as a personal attack, or something. I don't see any other explanation for why people would get like that about that specific character, even with a game like undertale that is notoriously magnetic towards obsessive internet weirdos. Like, there's no Asgore defence force that will parachute in to talk about how you're prejudiced against hairy dads when you talk poo poo about him.

i imagine some tech and science workers who are constantly teetering between imposter syndrome and guilt over the ethical dubiousness of their work under neoliberal capitalism identify pretty strongly with her, exaggerated though her circumstances might be, and might take attacks on her a bit personally. i don't think other characters are quite as "relatable" as she is in that way even as they can be quite likeable.

The contextualization of sparing as recruitment and the fact that all the recruits call you "boss" makes me think maybe the pacifism route will become more than it seems

it's really sweet when she leans into making cheesy puns with Toriel, but it's also kind of sad because it emphasizes how much she's missing non-judgmental kindness and connections from adults

my post-chapter 2 prediction Ralsei wants everyone and especially Kris to live permanently in the dark world because he doesn't want to be lonely again. Asriel visiting will be either an imminent or present threat to the escapism the dark world provides and he will flip out and become a sympathetic but dangerous antagonist who's obsessed with the idea of being replaced. I think Kris will lean into favoring Ralsei initially and turn for a while but be swayed by his friends.

This is also fair, Jevil says a lot of suspicious things but also directly talks about the Knight (without saying what they look like or very much specific about them).

As for the spoilered thing. He never actually refers to the voice on the phone as "Mike", he does mention "Mike" as being on the TV and untrustworthy, but never directly relates that to the person on the phone. Which feels like Jevil mentioning the Queen in Chapter One alongside the Knight (and Gaster references). Mike might well be a TV Host and the villain of the next chapter (and thus the big smile, which funnily enough also shows up in a blink and you will miss it moment on the Spamton NEO bonus boss route).

wondering if it's a reference to ReBoot (Mike the TV)

Has there been any speculation around the fact that the Queen, while presumably being the library laptop (or at least some sort of computer but she does have a battery and Kris can take her to the closet in the real world), she is also the queen of spades? Odd to me that a character can combine two such disparate concepts like that. What could it mean?

i assumed the antagonists being spades is a play on the saying "calling a spade a spade"

i do feel like there's gonna be some sort of twist on pacifist to throw off people who do it out of compulsion because it led to the "best" ending in undertale, but i dont think it'll be overly cruel

I think Ralsei is some sort of face-stealing demon who took his appearance from what Kris wants to see most to try to keep them engaged after the first adventure, but he's doing it out of loneliness and not malice.
