Bloomberg is reporting that Amazon is in "advanced discussions" to locate HQ2 in Crystal City, Virginia, which is a suburb of DC.

God, I can't wait to see how many millions of dollars in extortion Amazon gets to go there in exchange for 50,000 slave labor jobs paying eight bucks an hour. Public financing of private enterprise is so much loving bullshit.

I believe that's called doing business deals

Not really. Corporate welfare bringing net positives to municipalities--sports stadiums, in particular, but companies like IBM have gotten massive handouts and then left cities holding the bag a few years later--has been shot down again and again and again by economists. The benefits essentially never outweigh the costs to taxpayers.

Giving everything to a large corporation and getting completely hosed in returns is just the art of the deal. It's like when you open a casino and fail to turn a profit, that's just deals, baby.

F For Fake
Tokyo Drifter
Hot Fuzz
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Polyester
Nightcrawler

I mean it's also just a boring movie where character development is almost non-existent and something about the pacing makes it seem like a Cliff Notes version of a larger and maybe even better story.

Have you read the original short story?

Last year I made a trailer for my thanksgiving party

It was inspired by Beyondfest's announcement trailers:

I want to make another one for this year, but I'm kind of at a loss for what movie clip I should use.

Needs:
- Lots of talking
- Available on youtube in a language other than english
- Somewhat intense situation, not necessarily action

The exposition scene from Battle Royale

Can someone explain to me why I put off watching the Planet of the Apes reboot series because the second one currently has a monkey dual wielding machine guns while riding through explosions on horseback and it's loving rad?

Because it was never a big marketing behemoth the same way the Disney blockbuster du jour is and it's not small enough to get the word of mouth mid budget buzz of a John Wick. It's just expensive enough to blend in with the crowd of Not Billion Dollar Sensations, even though it's a fantastic series.

A few candidates for LEAGUE: 1997, with the appropriate jaundiced eye towards the 90s and its preoccupations:

Mina: Acid Burn from Hackers or Lestat
Nemo: Randolph J. "Hurricane" Spencer from Thunder In Paradise and his super speedboat, Thunder
Quatermain: Timothy Dalton Bond, who has only grown more ruthless with age
Jekyll: Tyler Durden
Invisible Man: Hollow Man
Orlando: Orlando as portrayed by Tilda Swinton works fine here
Raffles: Bodhi
