This thread will not be monthly, but is going to serve as a general politics thread for US. That means that discussion here doesn’t have to be specifically Trump related… and it also means the mods aren’t going to police people for wanting to criticize the Democratic Party. This thread will be refreshed some time in March of 2019, as USPOL Spring. Context for international viewers:  As of last night, the Democratic Party, perpetual goobers and lovers of  , control the House of Representatives, by a fairly wide margin. However, they suffered losses in the Senate, which is a body they are at an increasing disadvantage to ever control again for any length of time. Likewise, Republicans successfully stole themselves a Supreme Court seat and secured a second one via resignation, effectively damning the court to a generation of conservative rule barring Democratic court packing. Donald J. Trump, resident court jester and awful billionaire grifter, remains the president until 2020 at minimum, and Democrats do not have the votes in the Senate to convict even if the House decides to impeach based on investigations they are making. Democrats also gained 6 governorships last night, though they lost a number of key races including Florida and Georgia, and Republicans still control a majority of governorships. This is significant because it gives Democrats more control over 2020 redistricting efforts in those states, and 2010 gerrymandering is how the Republicans have gained much of their control. Against this backdrop, a number of prominent Democratic politicians are gearing up for a bloodbath of a primary in 2020 for who gets to challenge Donald Trump for President. The new Democratic House, likely under longtime leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali), must decide what to investigate and what bills to symbolically pass. And there is a new slate of Senate races up for election in 2020. Game on.  BUT LK I DON’T WANNA ARGUE WITH LEFTISTS ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!  Tough. If you think last night wasn’t a win for the Democrats, you have unreasonable expectations. Nothing was going to be fixed over night and you never stop working. Take a break but it’s going to take a long time to make change last. That being said, why aren’t we talking about increasing the size of the House to mitigate gerrymandering and the obvious issues with the Electoral College?

The Electoral College takes an amendment, I'm pretty sure, and I think House size is a full Code change, so the Senate has to pass it too. But the real reason ranges from Democrats really believing they can win those seats anyway, to the actual building not being big enough. But I'd be happy to be wrong, a bigger house would go a long way.
