That sounds like a good start, make sure she's got a straight left wrist, bends fingers at all the joints, and doesn't claw the neck. Make sure the right hand picking is appropriate (video below), not pen-holding style, and start her off with some basic syncopation. Open chords shouldn't be that complicated if the basics are there, but the basics are the easiest things to overlook with no teaching experience.
