Taiwan is comically first world and there is a real bourgeois living here that does not include English Teacher lowlives such as myself

Since I've lived here it strikes me as very odd that a city like Taipei - modern, clean, extremely safe, extremely convenient, where pretty much any Western comfort you can think of is available 24/7 on every block, with universal health care, outstanding mass transit and world-class food, is somehow a cheaper place to live than some shithole in Alabama that aspires to have an IHOP.

Taipei is very pretty

I know from seeing lomography pictures of the taipei 101 skyline during sunset

$60k at the last job I had before funemployment. I live in Seattle, and if I didn't have a partner with a good job and a house, I'd pretty much be hosed due to student loan debt and ever-increasing rent* lol.

I hear rent is finally tapering off though.

I make $14.65/hr as the highest-paid person in an accounting auditing office at a resort. I work overnight and live in a medium-cost-of-living city. My rent and utilities are 60% of my take-home pay. The night shift plus availability of alcohol at work keeps me from pursuing anything better. I'm just slowly drowning.

I did this same job at 17 for $7.50/hr. I'm 33 now.

also even though I make too much money a big part of what I make has to be used to support my parents, grandmother, and in-laws

my parents are both working in their 70s and will probably work until they're dead, they live with my grandmother in a very small house
my grandmother worked until she was 90 at a casino where she also gambled away her life savings a couple decades prior, she only stopped working because she started to go blind
both of my in-laws work at walmart in rural missouri and don't make enough money to pay the bills because an accident left my father-in-law partially paralyzed and they have to support their two failsons. one of them is addicted to meth and the other is addicted to jesus

every single of one them is a chud that will vote straight republican forever, my dad thinks he's only poor because taxes are too high smdh

all I do is give them money, and they're going to work until they die on their feet

i will say that the concept of a guy making a shitload of money doing a morally repellent job and funnelling all of that money to his family who has slipped through the cracks is basically the same correct indictment of current north american society as depicted in the great Andrew Garfield/Michael Shannon vehicle 99 Homes. any way i make $40k a year, three weeks vacation that i never get to really take, and a $500 HSA

Dude, go to USAJobs, throw your hat into the federal employment sector. You have that god drat much time in accounting auditing and an MBA? There's gotta be a government agency with comparable pay and better benefits that you would fit great in. Hell, some might even give you telework.
