For Puget Sound and Seattle dudes, there's a few that might be worth doing, especially if you have kids.

Highland Ice Arena in Shoreline honors service members with free ice skating for everyone; skate rental is available for $4 (Monday, Nov. 12).

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium: Veterans and active military receive free admission, and immediate families pay half-price admission (Saturday–Monday, Nov. 10–12).

Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville: Veterans and active military receive free admission, and their immediate family members pay half-price admission (Saturday–Monday, Nov. 10–12).

Everyone can enjoy free access to our country's amazing national parks on Veterans Day (Sunday, Nov. 11; free).

Our fantastic state parks honor military too with free access for everyone on Veterans Day; no Discover Pass is required to park (Sunday, Nov. 11; free).

Woodland Park Zoo salutes veterans and active military with free admission for current and former service members and spouses plus discounted admission for up to four family members (Sunday, Nov. 11).

Local restaurants Ivar's and Kidd Valley are offering a tasty thank you to service members: a free entree (at Ivar's) or free cheeseburger, fries and a drink (at Kidd Valley) for active military and veterans, with I.D. (Sunday, Nov. 11).

Krispy Kreme: Veterans and current service members get a free doughnut and small coffee at participating locations as thanks for their service — we're still confirming this one (Sunday, Nov. 11).

Veterans and current service members can pull up to one of Brown Bear Car Wash's tunnel locations and get a free car wash on Veterans Day; for others who get their car washed, Brown Bear will donate $1 to Puget Sound Honor Flight (Sunday, Nov. 11).

Everett's Imagine Children's Museum welcomes veterans for free and all visitors can add a brick to the "Wall of Thanks" to honor military service members; ceremony at noon (Monday, Nov. 12).

Lunchbox Laboratory In Seattle does a free burger for veteran's day, which is ridiculously good. I'd recommend it. They also don't get incredibly busy with veterans, which is nice.

A few more restaurants from the Puget Sound area:

Northwest Lumpia: This Tacoma-based Filipino restaurant that specializes in fried lumpia is offering freebies. From the restaurant’s Facebook page: “On Veteran's Day, November 11, 2016, we are offering a free Combo 2 (4 lumpias and a drink) to U.S. Military Veterans as our personal thank you for your service. Please provide proof of service (Military ID or copy of DD-214) at time of order between 1100-1400.” Details here.

Tattered Apron Bakery: The Puyallup South Hill bakery is offering a freebie. From the bakery’s Facebook page, “Each Veteran with ID receives a free item on November 11th from the bakery case. Pie, cakes, and cheesecakes are not included.” More details here.

Class As are mandatory if you are going to Golden Coral. Even if you are just in JROTC.
The three hour line outside will take you back to the good days of hurry up and waiting.

Lowes will give you a 10% discount year round if you 'register as a vet'. Might need your DD214 or card. They didn't ask for mine when I signed up. I believe Home Depot will do the same.

YOOOOOGE!!!!

I am irritated that Veterans Day is one of those days where Monday is "Observed". I originally thought I got off free because it landed on a Sunday this year, now (since I just started and don't have enough PTO to blow a day) I have to run the risk of trying to duck Veterans Day thank you stuff at work. Had a pretty good back and forth with an amphib Marine at another office on Friday though. That was a good time.
