Let it all burn. Like that anon I quoted, the type of social outcasts and rejects that used to populate 4chan (and the internet in general) no longer exist, so even if you removed /pol/ and somehow kept the /pol/tards at bay it would eventually peter out quite quickly.

There's always gonna be disaffected tech savy young men looking for a place to shitpost and belong. The type of people that populated 4chan a decade ago exist today. Same with the type of people that populated SA almost two decades ago. The only difference is how they're posting, the architecture where they're posting, and the world around them. For this generation now, it's probably Reddit or one some multitudinous Discords. If /pol/ didn't exist, 4chan might very well have begun its slow death (assuming it hasn't done so already) like SA has. In another decade, who knows what the internet will be like or where those types of people will go to be able to talk to like minded people and shitpost on the internet.

It's not like there wasn't Usenet and Digg and Fark and other poo poo back then too and it's not like people can't go to multiple places, but I mean it as a specific spot to congregate. Not in general.

Forums ten years ago amounted to basically what a subreddit is now, the internet was a much smaller and more granular place with oldass 2000s servers that could get obliterated just from someone linking to a text webpage from Penny Arcade. You're handwaving to the need for a safe space for tech-savvy young men who can't do the kind of "shitposting and belonging" you want on platforms that will offer a niche to basically anything that's not a felony.

I'm not saying they need a safe space. A lot of them can go gently caress themselves over their need for a safe space. What I mean is that there will always be one whether other people like it or want it. Whether one built for them or a preexisting one to suit their needs with mods that are either absent enough to suit their needs or mods that include people like them. I mean, CSPAM is its own small example where SA Leftists can shitpost with moderate impunity but my statements were on a larger, more general scale at the size of domains rather than a thread or group of threads.

Probably? But it's one kind of problem when the far right is off griping about the Jews in some little hole like Stormfront, and another level entirely when they're given free run of a relatively mainstream platform where they can recruit impressionable suckers due to the admins' wish to preserve the endangered American Nazi. Deplatforming works, and if they were pushed off to fascists-only spaces like Gab that payment processors won't even touch they'd be as good as finished.

The right's biggest asset online is non-fascists in charge of public forums like Nishimura and Dorsey who invite the fash into their communities and deny the general userbase any means to get them back out. Normal people get sick of every conversation getting taken over by endless bad-faith arguments about the genetic inferiority of the negro and leave, the site dies eventually, but not before it spends a couple years as a mainstreamed indoctrination camp for dumbfuck kids late to the party who just wanted to look at anime porn or whatever.

The Chanology stuff peaked around 2008 with the first protest and then slowly petered out over the next year iirc. ED was still ostensibly a wiki for LJ and other web drama and memes at the time. But there was still pushes to harass people online they found cringeworthy. It wasn't any sort of either/or thing. It was always about trolling people and getting a rise. Even for noble purposes and against people that probably deserved it, it was always about that. It was always about the lulz.

I can probably name a few more examples that I can remember like Alex Wuori and the An Hero kid as trolling that extended irl that 4chan did and/or spearheaded. Idk who spearheaded the CWC stuff fwiw.

But with regards to being varied, but I'd argue that being varied at all is the qualifier rather than more varied at this point.

I was wondering when somoene would namedrop alex wuori then i remembered i never cared enough to truly learn what all that horseshit was anout. Some gaia onlinenguy? Seemed like the first time /b/ was used as someones personal army

I remember when 4chan doxxing was about ordering forty cheese pizzas to your address, not, like, swatting and other serious poo poo.

Boards dictate what people the site attracts as a whole, and boy you don't want to attract more /pol/ types. And it's not like Lowtax never removed certain subforums. People can barely stand D&D, imagine if we still had LF, lmao.

LF was immeasurably better than D&D if you were a normal person trying to read good posts on a forum and not an admin getting black-bagged by the Secret Service for aiding terrorists

That would be in the Yotsuba Society Archives. It has plenty of pre-2011 r9k content as well. Gigabytes and Gigabytes of it including the images I've saved by hand. All of it are my personal archives that I never got a chance to analyze or research in my own time because of financial pressures and constraints.

I definitely remember that exact image as well. I seem to be the only active (read:existing) imageboard historian on earth.

I would not be concerned. Besides if I get a content complaint, the whole archives will simply be taken down to remove the offending material. Any illegal content that would be detected would be ones that are inadvertenly downloaded while archiving the threads and material. There are cases where 4chan users intentionally post illegal content to destroy a thread knowing he would be banned and getting a visit from the Feds!

The real concern is the overwheming focus of 4chan = /b/. Now it's 4chan = /pol/

I remember now...when I did the archives section of Yotsuba Society all I posted was the threads and thumbnails, not the full images. Uploading the images alone would take too much time and server space, at the same time I did saved all the images in almost each thread as a precaution. I actually still have the full archives of the threads and full images. Unfortunately it will take me time and mental energy to search them to find the images that I have for /r9k/ or for any other board. In addition it's impossible for me to upload as many images if requested because I've been unemployed for a year despite skills in Linux and IT, along with being a sole provider for my chronically unemployed parents for the past 4 years. My internet has been since cut off since I could not afford it anymore once my unemployment checks ran out. I've been trying to crowdfund my way parents out of poverty and help my parents avoid the streets since the checks ran out and and the only reason why I'm replying is because I'm tethering via my cell phone.

So late to the party here but if 4chan is seriously going to put all the NSFW stuff onto its own domain that's a liability waiting to happen. For the longest time 4chan was "excused" because of the SFW boards because apparently posting gaming memes makes up for the literal CP being posted at 3AM on /b/.
