I was able to introduce my little 7 year old cousin to this over thanksgiving and while she said it (she-ra in particular) was "awesome", she also got bored multiple times throughout it.... Sigh

Well presumably they'd have to get over the whole "omg you're alive?!" Bit and probably guilt over making the assumption she died first.

Bronies got started because they wanted to make 1d cartoon horses their wives and gently caress them. Look deeply enough into any fandom and you will find porn. Critically however, the people who want gently caress and have a relationship with those characters are few and far between.

Were those nods to the original character designs?

Was Glimmer's 'war plan' a reference to anything in particular, or was it anime in general? I'll be honest, it gave me a kind of cowboy bebop vibe (and the pompadour alex has!!! :D)

Cucumber Quest! How could I forget about that?!

e:

quote:

The official plot synopsis reads, “Even after everything that’s happened, the world outside the Horde’s walls is still a strange one to Adora. Each day she’s learning more about her growing powers as She-Ra, including something new: the ability to heal corrupted runestones. Runestones are the magical source from which princesses like Frosta, Mermista, and Perfuma draw their power, but Glimmer knows of another runestone — one with a dark past. Long ago a fire princess ruled the lands to the west, until her thirst for power corrupted her, and led to the ruin of her kingdom. Glimmer thinks the lost fire runestone could give the Rebellion an edge in the fight against the Horde, but claiming this ancient power won’t be easy… especially not when the Horde has their eyes set on the same prize.”

Wait, is it know that the wastes are the lands of Scorpia's family?

No, not that. I meant it being generalized into all relationships, cause growing up it was all gay all the time, with people putting things like "CONTAINS SLASH" in summaries (yes, I know, trap, spring, etc)

Honestly I just saw that as Catra torpedoing -herself- due to adora's perceived abandonment and rejection. It takes a while to get through those kind of feelings and in the meantime reminders can hurt like gently caress so all you want is to make it go away.

I just finished season 1 after a friend highly recommended the show.

A few stray thoughts:

- My very first thought upon seeing Glimmer was "whoa, I've never seen a girl with that shape in a cartoon before" even though it's really common.
- Bow is hilarious. I about lost it when he ripped the midriff off his prom outfit.
- I absolutely love how inclusive this show is with regards to fashion; girls in poofy dresses, girls in armor, girls in tuxedos, girls in skintight off-the-pincer slinky dresses, plus Bow's bare stomach. Also there are hearts on the bottom of Bow's boots. ON THE BOTTOM! Dude knows how to stick with a theme.
- Catra is easily the best character on the show so far. She's clearly the show's second main character, which owns.
- All three of the main good guys (Adora, Glimmer, and Bow) are are kind of bland in comparison. Both Glimmer and Adora have issues they work through, but they're not explored nearly as deeply as Catra's.
- God drat, can you keep track of the loving sword between scenes? Please? I lost track of how many times I thought Adora left it behind only for it to magically be in her hand or on her back after leaving it on the ground somewhere.
- Scorpia and Entrapta are both awesome in completely different ways.
- I'm totally picking up romantic vibes between Catra (who is suppressing them) and Adora (who is oblivious), right?
- This show made me so gay I wrapped back around to straight.
- I want the action scenes to be so much more fluid than they are. I miss the choreography from Avatar.
- With all the care that's gone into showing the conflict between Catra and Adora as a multifaceted, layered set of overlapping issues, you'd think they could also manage a little subtlety into wrapping up the adventure of the week, but nope. Show has a REAL bad habit of just pulling out "the heroes win!" without making it feel earned.
- The "stuck in the First Ones temple" episode was the best of the season. More of that please.
- The prom episode was also great. Both of the villains had amazing outfits for the ball.

I'm gonna start season 2 tomorrow and will post some more stray thoughts when I have the time.

heheheehehe Welcome to this wonderful gay show!
IDK about others, but things do seem to get better fight wise, though it never really got past the video game level of 'a major battle is a handful of dudes'

Do the writers for She-ra? Like, I see your reading, but did Catra voluntarily do the indoctrination implant thing or was it forced on her? Also it seems a bit easier to resist and defeat than loving heroin.

I also want to head off a likely response: saying someone 'choses' drug use is -not- saying its not a disorder, nor is it saying that its a person's own fault. Its merely making a contrast against force. Forced conversion, forced drug use.

From interviews, we’ve learned that Entrapta wasn’t initially intended to be written as autistic but one of the crew asked if she was, because *he* was autistic and her behaviour seemed really familiar. So they decided that yeah, it tracks that Entrapta is, and so they involved him in helping to write her that way, so she would be more realistic and relatable.

Wait, that wasn't intentional??
