I'm on episode 12. This show is loving dope and it makes me giddy. The stuff between Adora and Catra is high-quality drama that, honestly, I really missed when I watched the Legend of Korra. It helps that the voice acting is pitch-perfect. The gently caress is with all the neckbeards bitching about this show on Youtube? Can't they pick their fight with a pro-diversity show that actually sucks?

The_Doctor posted:The original one was a cartoon aimed firmly at girls, and boys in the 80s would never have watched it. I don’t get why they’re so up in arms about it now. I never watched the original, but my friend has been a big She-Ra fan since childhood, and she loves the new show. She told me she rewatched a few episodes of OG She-Ra and was forced to admit that the show, even though it was still nostalgic for her, was kind of garbage. I really don't think it's about the new show sullying the original's "legacy," if it really has one. It's just because Gamergaters think that the show is appealing to the Tumblr crowd, and they can't stand anything that makes their sworn enemies happy. The TV tropes article mentions that male IMDB users give the show an average rating of 5.5/10 and female users give it a 8.6/10. I still don't get it. I have a much easier time understanding them brigading against a Star Wars movie, but this is a show aimed at girls for god's sake. Wildeyes fucked around with this message at 17:54 on Nov 30, 2018 |

Chokes McGee posted:Finished the series. After getting second-bested by Adora AGAIN, Catra’s isn’t coming back. Her sole goal now is Hoardak’s big chair. Catra leaving Adora to fall to her death was a gut punch. I don't think she can come back from that. This isn't like Zuko in Avatar S2.

tsob posted:Azula did. Zuko was there, and Azula said he did it, since she knew it might not have actually killed Aang but regardless, Zuko wasn't the one who did the deed. Zuko's entire story arc in season three starts with how torn up he is about it too. The difference is in in attitude, not deed. Zuko did (at least, so far) more evil things but he always seemed conflicted about them. Catra doesn't, and even seems to acknowledge and just not care that she's one of the bad guys so long as she can eventually be a leading bad guy. Catra is far more reminiscent of Azula than she is Zuko, at least, so far. Yep, Catra is definitely more like Azula than Zuko. Also, I think it matters that Aang wasn't Zuko's friend at the time. He was just an enemy of the state. Whereas Adora was literally Catra's very best friend.

The cat-tailed silhouette looks too thicc to be Catra to me. But it may be a princess from her own race who comes in the Horde's way at some point, which may give her some conflict about what she's doing.

The original show sure liked redheads. And the original designs for the male characters are somehow even gayer than the new ones.

Saying Adora has no chemistry with Catra....I'mma have to respectfully disagree with that

I've got two eps to go, but this season feels like a significant jump in quality compared to the last two. The stakes feel real, the drama is great, the character interactions are on point, and it hasn't dragged at all.

CuwiKhons posted:Catra seems to have taken a hard turn down the Azula line of villainy, which seems increasingly irredeemable. I mean, she basically attempted to destroy the entire world just to get one up over Adora. She's cracked and I don't know how the show is going to fix it or if they even will - which is super interesting because for the first two seasons I had thought it was inevitable that Catra would get a redemption arc. Now I legitimately don't know. Ever since Catra showed she was willing to let Adora fall off a cliff to her death in Season 1, I've felt she wasn't redeemable.
