Doesn't WWE, like, have kind of a lot of evidence that Baron Corbin is ratings poison, now?

So why do they keep building the show around him?

For those too lazy to watch a few minutes of that review: Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that the fact that Asuka got a massive reaction when Becky almost picked her to face Ronda surprised Vince, and now he sees a ton of potential in her.

:shobon:

I guess it also helps that she's apparently incredibly well liked by the women's locker room behind the scenes as well. I know Charlotte and Naomi have both done nothing but heap praise on Asuka in interviews.

He cut a super good promo (good), then when AJ showed up, threw Miz at him (funny) and tried to run (bad), and only slipped away because Miz hit a skull crushing finale on AJ (bad).

The way he sold for Demon Finn was hilarious and fun, and if the feud would have been like, two, maybe three matches instead of the 40,000 (and... somehow counting!) matches it turned into, that'd have been good. But there was just too much crap that could have been left out, and then they did the same overlong feud--but worse--immediately afterward with Cass and Bryan.

I can definitively say Corbin was better in the lovely role than Cass was.

The thing about Corbin is, he's frequently put into a role he's actually kind of perfect in----but for too long. Like, imagine if Corbin held the exact position he does now, only he had something like 10% of his current screentime. I mean, he's basically made for the role of fake tough guy who is actually kind of a goober. He's like Jimbo Jones in wrestler form. But we're drummed in the head with him which just makes him go from "Guy we can happily not like" to "No seriously, I don't like this guy, get him off my TV"

The TEW notes of every raw for like, the last six months have ended with "You used Baron Corbin too much during this show"
~~~~
So, in regards to Bane Ambrose, uh... he did mention during one of his rants how he legitimately almost died from a massive staph infection after his surgery, right? I remember him mentioning he almost died, but do they like, explicitly spell that out? It almost feels like a key piece in his weird new persona is just sort of... uh... blurred out.
Okay actually I remember when Corbin was part of something good.
During the Lesnar/Roman feud, Angle asked Roman to leave for the night so there wouldn't be a fight between him and Lesnar. Roman agreed and Corbin called in some security to escort Roman out. Corbin had this poo poo-eating grin the whole time. Roman just looked at him, popped him in the face and walked off without a word.
That was neat.
Maybe if they were going for a heel Daniel Bryan basically saying "I gave everything for you people, and it cost me my job and health, so now I have a second chance I'm not going to get into stupid brawls and do the bare minimum to win because I won't jeopardize this second chance" that could work. But they're not doing that, are they?
Smackdown was really good (again). The New Daniel Bryan is a great character even if hippie socialist should be a face archetype and his interactions with the Miz were great. Becky is amazing, Asuka is amazing and I really liked that they used the title feud to give Sonya Deville a big win. And I want to see an entire run of PSAs from Joe :allears:
Smackdown is the A show and will reinforce that fact in less than a year when it's in the bigtime cool network TV timeslot and has alllllllllllllllllllllll the pyrotechnics.
Meanwhile, next fall, Brock will still be champion on Raw and Finn Balor will probably be dead or back in NJPW.
I mean, I disagree with him on veganism because converting to it without culling the human population first, as well as the knock-on extinction of most of the food stock animals that follows being bad, but he's spot on if he's pissed at late-stage capitalism.
