Ladies and Gentleman, this is your main event. In conjunction with kenny is winning AKA @epitasis AKA super no vacancy and The Monumental Podcast I am proud to announce THE NEW YORK 64  The New York 64 is a 64* disgusting promotional tactic tournament divided into two halves, one for business practices (backstage poo poo) and one for the WWE universe (storylines, angles, gimmicks, promos, etc.) The * is because there will be two play in 4 way matches for the WWE Universe 16 seeds. The tournament voting will be held on twitter, but I hope it generates actual discussion here. An esteemed panel of wrestling experts and woodsmen nominated, seeded and bracketed this tournament and we hope we have chosen the absolute worst things this company has done. I wanted to have a more open nomination process but we came up with 100+ and 64 of them were just me laying around while doing some yoga, so it would have quickly gotten out of hand. Because my schedule is absolutely insane I'm announcing it tonight along with the first bracket but voting will begin tomorrow along with the second bracket announcement, and the rest on Thursday. For example Lars Sullivan didn't even make it on here and the WWE UK stuff barely squeaks in! Some of these will seem a little weak, but for example Brawl 4 All was an unsanctioned shoot fight tournament held between a bunch of concussed, injured wrestlers with no athletic commission providing the basics of safety. It led to numerous injuries and shortened a career or two. So while it is funny to look back on, it's nuts that a company would do that to their talent. But they did! I'll try to go through my reasoning for each entrant as the voting starts.

I remembered WWE killing Owen Hart, continuing with the show, and then doing another show the next day. I had blanked out them airing footage from his funeral without his family's permission. Jesus Christ.

The Owen stuff wasn't a build to anything, that just WWE being dense and/or rude to the Hart family. I barely remember the Shawn Michaels or the Piggy James stuff but they were poo poo that no one will recall unless they're digging. WWE transitioning from PPV to Network subs is a huge moment in the company's history and highlighted just how little of a gently caress WWE cares about the fanbase. "Why are you giving money to PPV providers when you can give it directly to us?" was the messaging. Its the language of financial domination. My overall vote is still for the Crown Jewel tho. Even before the Khashoggi murder it was a testament to the absolute greed of the company.

I think I have to go with Piggy James personally. The HBK thing is dumb. Mocking fans that want to give them more money is just their own idiocy. The Owen stuff almost took it. Body shaming a woman in great shape like that I could only imagine having a horrible effect on people that already have body image issues. A lot of kids watch this dumb circus show and even if it's the bad guys doing it, it can leave an impression.

Why is Crown Jewel in the angles category and not the business category? I assume it was a lovely show (I didn't watch it) but the business practices behind it are the main thing everyone has a problem with.

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but is the Jimmy Snuka cover-up on the bracket? It's less verifiable than most of these, but it would be on the level of the Owen stuff if it's true.

The Snuka tribute is the cover up is not since while it's obvious Mr. Fuji took part right after it happened everything involving the actual company is impossible to verify. Likewise I left Vince's rape and sexual harassment accusations off. It's impossible to draw a line where the company begins and wrestlers/Vince end, but there were a couple of things that are too serious and too hard to verify.

Without condoning either, I can still at least understand the Owen and Crown Jewel stuff on some level. The Pillman interview just horrifies me.

He didn't understand what beastiality really was, instead he thought it just meant wild animalistic sex.
