the inefficiency of a developer's code correlates to the hardware they are developing on (or for)

thus since we are now in a time where hardware is really fast, most of that speed will be used to render cool-looking UI hourglasses instead of coming to the realisation that uhh maybe we actually do not need them anymore

what sites are you guys going to where javascript performance is so bad it's a problem? literally the only sites I've seen do that are torrent sites, porn sites, and lovely clickbait news sites

literally everything else seems to be fine in regards to javascript

on my 8 year old mbp i could play quake 3 and civilization 5, but typing text into fb messenger i had lag just waiting for the text to show up

after i got my new pc i noticed suddenly that a lot of sites i go to are snappier and more responsive

i guess that's what you get if you use javascript close to the metal or whatever - you end up with technology that is still trying to solve the same loving problems as we had in the 90s, except now in the browser

i think the next step is basically yo dawg we put a $DOCKER_BUT_WITH_JAVASCRIPT in your browser so now you can waste all the gains from hardware into yet another matryoshka layer of bullshit

Asm.js has essentially been replaced by webassembly. It took a while but it's starting to be usable now. It's probably not going to kill javascript any time soon though.

ah so i guess the pipe dream of having a asm.js VM running on top of the linux kernel or something to solve portability once and for all was just that

stalin+gcc-based pipeline

why the gently caress would you name your software tool after stalin? it's not even young enough to be this ironic tankie poo poo, someone really did think it was a great joke apparently

funny how this is probably not as big a deal as when some edgelord would come up and name their software after hitler
