Command Squad Steele, Command Company, 420th Erusian Regulars
Planet: Toriga 6 Ambient Temperature: 34°C Local Time: 1634 Glory: 0/8 Ruin: 6/6

The squad (minus Diaz and Morovin) is gathered around the Commissar for the most part. Everyone has taken a knee behind some stone ruins in this jungle clearing, or gone prone where appropriate. 360 security is up, the squad Vox Operator is on the vox trying to cut through the crude EWAR that the orkz are putting out on all active frequencies. Apparently the orkz are broadcasting old flatvid audio or music across most frequencies, with only a few untouched. Whether this is by design or by chance is unclear.

To your southwest about 30m is the burning wreckage of your valkyrie. If you can put out the fires that are consuming the downed craft, you might be able to see if there are any survivors, as well as salvage any man portable weapons mounted to the bird. Valkyries come with a nose mounted twin linked multi laser, missiles or rocket pods on the wings, and Heavy Bolters for doorguns. Of these weapons, it's probably viable to get the Bolters off their mounts easily with the right tools. Without tools, you basically need to figure out a way to rip the weapons off their mounts without loving up the weapons in the process (DN 5). This will take at least 5 minutes.

The three dakkajets that shot down your valkyrie are beginning to turn around to strafe your clearing with machine gun fire, and the sounds of numerous ork helicopters can be heard to your North. Visual confirmation is not possible at this time because of the jungle around you. They are likely flying at treetop level. That said they are loud and they are heading this way, fast! (Awareness check needed to ascertain compass bearing and approximate distance, as well as a guesstimate till they are on top of you).

As a squad, what do you do?

Squad Composition
The PCs, veteran trooper sergeant (bolter), vox operator (lasgun), medicae (lasgun), heavy weapons team (missile launcher, 3 frag/3 krak missiles), and 3 guardsmen (lasgun): 12 currently, 14 when the other PCs join. NPCs are mobbed up.

DIAZ
You already been through the ork song and dance with a previous squad. You got them linked up with the Catachan 302nd at a patrol base a night’s march from this LZ, to the west. You and other Catachan veterans are in the jungle looking to unify the scattered squads and get them massed up to begin operations. Currently you are in the treeline, 40m west of the Commissar of the 420th and see her squad has a perimeter setup. What do you do?

MOROVIN
You are all too aware of the nature of the Ork threat on this world. You are aware of the nature of the ork response to any incursions on their world. It starts with an airborne recon by fire: burna bommas to spot and burn anyone running around. Then artillery to harass them and roughly box them in. While all this is happening, Ork special forces consisting of Kommandoz and entire squads of Stormboy Nobz are spinning up chinork Warkoptas and Deffkoptas at the nearest FYREBASE to close in for the kill. You’ve lost track of how many times you witnessed a flight of deffkoptas rocket and bomb the jungle, only for an insane ork pilot to bring his warkopta down with a speed and recklessness that would give some of the most grizzled thunderhawk pilots pause. Occasionally they even take off after insertion to provide close air support.

According to your personal experience and your superhuman senses, you figure the artillery is probably tied up with other targets, but the airmobile assault is due in about 10 minutes. You are currently in the treeline to the squad’s south east, 35m away. What do you do?

your best bro?
First Sergeant Diaz Knutson

"Hey. Hey. Hello. Testing. Stop switching channels, dude. Hi. C'mon, man." Diaz taps on the clarion vox in his tempestus helm, briefly considering that he may be suffering from uncooperative machine spirits. He takes a closer look at the squad with his enhanced visuals; the vox caster operator was in a panic and seemed to be mashing on switches in hopes that it would... Well, do something.

"Emperor save me. Dumb milk-drinking bougie flatlander babies," Diaz grumbles, loudly scrambling down his tree.

Despite yelling at the top of his lungs, he still had the tone of voice of a drunk that had just been rudely awakened from his slumber. "Hey ya'll, don't shoot! Or do, whatever. I'm coming out of the West bushes!" Diaz pushes through a thick wall of foliage like it was nothing and strolls into clear view of the squad. "Welcome to the poo poo! My name is Diaz, I'll be your tour guide for today."

He politely pauses for questions as he closes distance with the squad.

Scout Sergeant Morovin Khalavak

Morovin's immediate reflex was to sneak around the Guard position and speak to them only once he'd slipped inside their guns. They would be twitchy and watching for oversized movement, and long and harsh experience had taught the Raven Guard that trusting anyone else to be competent and loyal was a loser's game. But trust was a two-way street, and having a superhuman suddenly appear inside their lines would only shake them up even more. He decided it would be better to approach them quickly but openly.

He bursts from the treeline at a full sprint towards the entrenched position, bellowing "FRIENDLY COMING IN! GUARDSMEN, HOLD YOUR FIRE!" He needed to speak to their commanding officer. The faster they learned that this clearing was about ten minutes away from being covered in burning promethium, the faster he could get them moving. "Maybe I won't get them all killed," he thought bitterly, and then almost laughed. This jungle had eaten 5 neophytes in a month. He gave the guardsmen a week, tops.

There he is!

Specialist Serafina Aleksandr
Wounds: 8/8 -- Shock: 0/8 -- Wrath: 1/2 -- Glory: 2

Serafina woke after the crash having to suppress a groan of pain. She opened her eyes and saw the remnants of their makeshift squad scattered about the clearing, and she begins to push herself up trying to clear the ringing from her ears. Her heart fell as she found the Valkyrie, the cockpit smashed and a deep furrow dug into the earth.

First things first. She readjusted her equipment and gathered what supplies she could, helping the other members of the squad where she could. Her head snapped up as the "thwap thwap thwap" of incoming craft began to echo through the air. She had never heard such a noise before, but it must have been some kind of machine. One of the ork devices that she had seen on their descent perhaps? When had they built them, this was all supposed to be a feral ork infestation. She grasps at the aquilla around her neck - a refractor field earned long ago on a very different battlefield.

When she spots the Valk she curses and hobbles over, "Medicae!"

The pilots are dead, the cockpit shredded by some sort of projectile fire. But by their sacrifice and the grace of the Emperor the rest of the squad had survived. She finds the two door gunners in a bad way, one faintly crying for his mother and another that looks near death. She pulls them free of the burning wreckage as gently as she can, before helping the medic tend to them as best as they could. They could be saved, but neither would be walking anywhere.

She draws her handcannon at the sudden announcements, but slowly lowers the weapon when the Catachan and... other thing, arrives.

"We've got two heavily wounded and flying machines inbound from the north. We don't have long, and the Valkyrie isn't going to last long. If we're going to salvage anything we need to do it quickly, and we need to decide what to do with the door gunners."

After that she heads back to the Valkyrie and pries open one of the side cargo hatches. She calls over some of the other guardsmen to help her remove a large, heavy case from the burning wreck and dragging it away from the potential blast zone. She opens it and breaks the seal, looking over the weapon within. It had taken her all her savings and more than a few favors, but she had learned that nothing equals the score faster than a Lascannon. Idly, she remembers Karl... But shakes the nostalgia away.

"It looks like this survived the crash landing. That can only help us."

A contract signed by a minor is not binding!

Steele is barking orders at the squad in between checking her chrono and trying to work out the approach speed on those Defkoptas by the dopplering sound of the blades.

"Get the fires out on that Valkyrie! Check the crew, if they can walk they're coming with us, if they can't walk but can fight leave them a grenade, otherwise I'll administer the Emperor's Mercy. Anything we can carry comes with us, trap the rest."

She's paying enough attention to her surroundings that Diaz's arrival doesn't startle her - although it does make it clear they are even further out of the 420's landing zone than anticipated. Factoids from her days in the Schola and serving as a junior rapidly assemble themselves: Catachan, notorious for lax discipline and the high rate of suspicious deaths among attached Commissars, only respect competence, independent minded. A light touch probably required.

"First Sergeant Diaz, glad to see we have some experienced men on the ground. Can you assist with triage and salvage, we've got...not enough time before we have to leave."

When Morovin breaks out of the trees in an unexpected direction and moving fast she's less sanguine, raising her bolt pistol to cover him for a fraction of a second before recognizing what he is. Astartes? Here? There had been nothing in any of the briefing material, she was certain.

"Ah...stand down, Guardsman. Let him in."

It was as much an order to herself as to the squad.

Well they sure the gently caress ain't listening to you now Top. Diaz alienates the guardsman of the 420th, who look to their Sergeant and then their Commissar for instructions. (Diaz will have a +2DN to interaction tests with the rest of the squad. This will degrade over time)

Now onto your patients. One of your guys, the one who was moaning and crying to his mother, is in and out. He's lost alot of blood, his right femur is shattered, and he has a gunshot wound that collapsed a lung. He is movable but he cannot move on his own power. The other door gunner was merely knocked out, and a sternum rub is apparently all it takes to get him moving after a gasp and a "OH gently caress! ARGH! gently caress!" His name is Grey and he's an Imperial Navy crewman. He's definitely got significant internal injuries from the crash, beyond the ability of the medicae to treat fully without surgical intervention. But he's ambulatory for right now. For some reason he can't feel how bad off he really is.

Both are treatable. Of the two, the guy whose got the broken leg is actually the one you are more certain about surviving, if you can keep him stable and get him through the jungle to a base camp. The other guy is an unknown, and your medkit isn't advanced enough to provide the diagnostic info you need. Best you can do is treat his pain and keep him moving. The rest is up to the Emperor and his will to live.

He sees Serafina salvaging the Valkryie and he offers to help out. "I'll do the rites and get the guns off the mounts. Hand me that toolbox and that extinguisher. Just make sure doc saves Sean!!!!"

Scout Sergeant Morovin Khalavak

The Marine looks around at the guardsmen, scowling, eyes whirring and refocusing. "We need to get out of this clearing as quickly as possible. I've been operating in this jungle for a month at this point; we have less than ten minutes before the Orks level this clearing with promethium bombs. We must recover whatever we can and move into the jungle."

Unprompted, Morovin heads over to the Valkyrie and begins tinkering with the bolts holding one of the heavy bolters to the frame, with little success. He clearly needs help, but is far too independent and proud to ask for it.

Commissar Brunhilde Steele

Steele nods sternly at the hulking Marine's warning. She turns to the squad to find them not being as helpful to Diaz as she might like, and puts a touch of iron in her voice:

"Guardsman, the First Sergeant gave you an order! Snap to, we need to be out of here in the next two minutes!"

Leadership: 10#1d6x4! 2 1 0 0 1 0 1 1 0 2

She doesn't bother looking to see if they act on her order. Turning back to the Marine (Scout Sergeant, Raven Guard, her heraldry lessons remind her) she lowered her voice so the squad wouldn't hear the faint mixture of concern and hope in her tone:

"We were dispatched less than a month ago, so if you were here before that...are there any of your brothers on planet? Or expected to arrive?"

She watches as he looks at the bolts and fiddles with things, accomplishing little as their time ticked away. Eventually she gives a growl and shoves a toolbox into the marine's chest, "Hold this,"
Morovin briefly considers braining this suicidally disrespectful mortal with her toolbox, then swallows his pride and just sets it down instead. The Orks would probably kill her soon enough, and in the meantime, any hands that could hold a gun were acceptable. Besides, she had succeeded where he had not.

He turns to face the Commissar and shakes his head grimly.

"I came here with a half-strength Scout squad under the assumption that local reports on Ork numbers and technology were accurate. This was to be long-term isolation and survival training. It will be 5 months at a minimum before the Raven Guard fleet returns; they are currently engaging Chaos forces several systems away. All of my Scouts are dead. Only I am left. I intend to avenge them, and if I can, to get as many Imperial forces off this planet as possible. And," he points in the direction of the incoming fighters. "We have very little time remaining. I recommend we move into the jungle immediately with whatever we can carry. Our only hope is escape and evasion. You are in command, so far as I can tell, but in your place I would kill the wounded to spare them the Orks' attention. It will be a mercy."

The Imperial Navy crewman is a bit in and out, but he hears the bit about killing the wounded loud and clear.

"Yo is he saying kill us? Don't kill us Commissar, Sean can make it he just needs a little help. And I can make it, I can hack it! Don't kill us Commissar please. Don't let us die in this place. Not like this, not like we're a buncha grox that got sick."

We are now in encounter time. You are under time pressure because of two things: the dakkajets who shot down your ride in the first place are turning around to gently caress you up, and the choppers that are about 10 minutes out. Here are the rules from pg. 244 of core.

quote:

Encounter Time
During combat, Wrath & Glory uses a system
known as Encounter Time. This is used when the
heroes are under time pressure and individual
actions and movements need to be tracked. A
single round of Encounter Time lasts roughly 10
seconds of real time. Encounter Time reflects a
self-contained moment in time, and it takes place
in a chronological sequence.

The game will not advance until everyone has checked in. Every post you make that involves an action or significant talking is 10 seconds, roughly. I'll prorate the time if you did a one liner or two but if you're writing paragraphs or doing real work I'll eyeball it the other way. Whenever I come around and update, I'm gonna tally up how much time was spent doing ALL THE THINGS and that'll determine some interesting things.

"Stop showing weakness. It makes Commissars get itchy trigger fingers."

"Diaz right? I'm Sera. Glad some of the Catachans made it. Have you ever fought Orks like this before?"

She presses a hand firmly over the door gunner's mouth as she starts pressing at various points on his torso, trying to feel for what might be injured to weigh his chances.

EDIT:
Also to be clear we have 14 people + 2
We have 2 missile launchers, 2 Heavy Bolters and a Lascannon to carry.
Each missile launcher is 85 pounds for the launcher and 6 missiles.
Each heavy bolter is 90 pounds for the gun + ammo
The Lascannon is 120 pounds for the gun + batteries

Serafina doesn't roll with armor or much equipment in general so she + someone else can pack the Lascannon
Let's say it takes 8 people to split up the remaining heavy weapons.
We have 3 regular grunts, the Sarge and the Medic. The sister and the marine can probably count as 3 people between them for ammo/random bits.
Then we'd need two people to carry the wounded man, preferably.

We can carry all of this stuff, I think. I'm not even sure carrying the wounded guy would slow us down all that much, compared to the other heavy kit we're packing.

Sister Superior Fortis | Shock: 10/10 Wounds: 7/7 Wrath: 2/2

After several moments mourning and speaking prayers for Sister Centia — an orkish round had blown a hole roughly the size of a human head through her armored torso, sadly also rendering her armor so much scrap — Sister Superior Fortis clambers to her feet and, as is proper, bathes the fallen sister in holy promethium. No xeno filth would set hands on her gear, nor stay her journey to the Emperor's side. She's made drat well sure of that.

Watching the blaze for a moment longer, she moves towards the gathering outside the fallen Valkyrie. The figure of an Astartes is a surprise, but a welcome one. She says, "It seems we're not the only ones who made it. Well met, Brother." Looking towards the wreck, she adds, "If there's nothing else to be scavenged, it may be prudent to move from this clearing. Their air superiority is hard to deny."

Specialist Serafina Aleksandr
Wounds: 8/8 -- Shock: 0/8 -- Wrath: 1/2 -- Glory: 4

She looks up as the Sister completes the burial rites that began after the crash. The shrill, high pitched roaring of oncoming jets and the more bass "thwump thwump thwump" closing in was growing louder by the second. She glances down to the wounded men, to their heavy kit that they had salvaged and frowned.

"We could try to set up an ambush with a small rear-guard, while the rest get a head start carrying the heavy equipment. Those proficient in stealth stay behind with some of the heavy weapons and take out as many of those flying machines as we can when they come in. I'd rather these things try to chase us on foot than hunt us from these 'koptas'."

Suggestion: Morovin, Lars and Sera stay behind with a missile launcher and the Lascannon. Everyone else packs up and starts moving away. We kill as many jets as possible as they come in, make the rest of the orkz think "Da Ell-Zee is hot!" so they land further away. The stealthy folk pack up the weapons and carry them away. Maybe leave some false trails and generally buy time for the clanker types to get into the jungle where their air cover won't count as much.

Commissar Brunhilde Steele
Wounds: 7/7 -- Shock: 0/8 -- Wrath: 3/2 -- Glory: 5

It would good for morale to have a Sister of Battle and a Space Marine fighting alongside the guardsmen, Steele decided. Even if there was no real chance of the Emperor's Angels of Death appearing in the sky on wings of fire to destroy their enemies, these champions would give the men hope. An invaluable commodity in dark times. She picked up the detached heavy bolter with some effort and experimentally worked the charging handle. It seemed in good condition, considering the crash. The machine spirits would not be pleased at the rough treatment, but seeing as there was no enginseer around they would have to make do with the profane hands of the surprisingly adept and astute Specialist Aleksandr.

"A sound plan, Specialist. Volunteers to assist the specialist! Rest of the squad, get to cover. We move in 30!"

Turning to Fortis, Steele permitted herself a faint smile and spoke in High Gothic, assuming they shared that education. There had been Sororitas cadets around during her training, but they tended not to mingle.

"Long way from the old Schola Progenium, Sister. To be a fly on the wall if my old Tactics instructor found I was allowing a common soldier this level of initiative! Still, we use the tools the Emperor gives us."

Objective! Gain 1 Wrath, 1 Glory

Shouldering the heavy weapon, she moved under the shade of the trees. A black and crimson uniform with gold braid wasn't going to be of any assistance in a jungle ambush except as a distraction.

Sergeant Morovin nods in approval. This soldier thought like a Raven Guard; her insubordination was more understandable considering that she was clearly aware that she'd been wasted on her lowly lot in life. Pride was only a sin when you were wrong.

"For most of the Raven Guard's history, we have struggled with depleted numbers, and as a result we fight best when utilizing ambush tactics, stealth, and misdirection. To us, the ideal combat is one where the enemy never sees us coming, and by the time they gain their bearings, we are already gone and preparing for the next strike. In other words, Specialist, I could not prepare a better plan for this situation myself. Guardsmen with the lascannon, come! I will show you a suitable place to deploy it and direct its fire myself."

Objective "Reminisce upon the traditions of your Chapter (and the Chapter’s home world, if any) and compare it to the current situation" completed, taking +1 Wrath and Glory.

There he is!
Assuming the current team assignments are correct:

The Sarge, Medic, Vox, 3 troopers, the Commissar and our Battle Sister are going to be carrying the remaining equipment.

1. Sean - requires two people
3. x2 Heavy Bolters - probably requires 2 people each

The Vox Operator is already carrying heavy kit.

The Medic + a Trooper can carry Sean.
The Commissar seems to be hefting one of the heavy bolters herself.
The other heavy bolter can be carried by the regular troopers.

That would leave us with:

The Ambush Team:
Diaz, Lars, Morovin, Sera
-Lascannon (120lbs)
-Missile Launcher (85lbs) w/ 3 frags, 3 kraks
-Meltagun (33lbs)
-Plasmagun (40lbs)
Assuming 20-30lbs of extra random kit/armor/etc, we're going to be hoofing it with about 100lbs of gear each.

The Command Elements:
Commissar, Battle Sister, Sergeant, Medic, Vox, x2 HWT Troopers, x3 Regular Troopers

Becomes:
Commissar w/ Heavy Bolter
Battle Sister w/ Heavy Flamer
Sergeant w/ Bolter
Missile Launcher HWT w/ 3 frags, 3 kraks
Heavy Bolter HWT
Medic + Trooper medical transport
Vox Operator

The Doctor is in!
While the rest of the squad loots and organizes itself per the plan, Diaz and Sera get the wounded door gunners treated and out of the Valkyrie. Sera treats what she can, but the man is going to need to see a chirurgeon before the day is up, or you believe he’ll die. For now, the Imperial Navy crewman is able to grit his teeth and carry his own IV bag as he hobbles off to the treeline.

DD
The squad splits into two units: Ambush detail and Command Squad Steele. Diaz, Lars, Morovin, and Sera take an even split of heavy and special weapons into the jungle on the north east end of the clearing. The party does an exceptional job of concealing themselves and the heavy weapons, yet the Catachan sergeant isn’t quite satisfied. Something’s wrong, he can feel it, but he isn’t sure what. The basics are all there (3 hits on Stealth), but there was too much that could give them away. Reflections off the metal of weapons, any light from the Space Marines goggles (thankfully off), making use of the terrain without disturbing the surrounding terrain, what what what!? He quietly but frantically redoubles his preparations and hopes its enough. The squad sights in on the enemy jets and waits for the nearest jet to close the distance before opening fire.

Commissar Steele takes her command squad deeper into the jungle, heading south at least 500m before changing direction to their final destination. Sister Superior Fortis walks point, with the Sergeant of the squad right behind her, and Commissar Steele behind him. The rest of the troops fall in line, with the squad’s Heavy Bolter keeping an eye on the rear of the squad.

Ambush

The 3 ork Dakkajetz come in low and fast, lining up as a flight to demolish the jungle to the south in a strafing run, which they shortly commence. Diaz starts the ambush off with a supercharged burst from his Plasma Gun (Critical Hit, 1 Glory). It damages the control surfaces on the left wing, but the jet is still stable (12/18 wounds). Lars and Sera work as a team, Sera helping Lars lead a Krak Missile shot into the nearest Dakka Jet. The shot is clean and the easternmost Dakkajet eats a krak missle to the fuselage. The plane starts belching smoke but otherwise remains on its flight path.(5/18 wounds, 1 shift to glory). Morovin takes aim with a Lascannon and lands a solid hit, although the weapon shows empty after firing just one shot. (Complication: Out of Ammo). The plane catches fire and the Ork loses all thrust. He’s looking for a patch of jungle to “land” in (-4/18 wounds, 1 shift to glory). Unable to find any, he bails out as the Dakkajet nosedives into the Jungle southeast of the clearing and torches an area 20m in length. The remaining Ork Dakkajetz hit their “Aftaburnas” and fire wildly into the jungle as they begin to pull up and out of their attack run. Though the fire is mostly ineffective, its still a long enough strafing run that those in the jungle may have to worry about strays.

Better Run Through the Jungle
(Shift to Glory stealth test)
As soon as the firing starts, the squad disperses into the jungle and takes cover as best they can. Avoiding detection from the air is paramount and the squad is quite successful in this. No one moves while Ork dakkajets scream in, with the exception of those who dive for the deck as soon as the supa shootas begin to fire up. Most of the rounds are ineffectual, but the Vox Operator is killed outright by a burst of supa shoota rounds. His body is practically mulched by the ork gunfire right next to Commissar Steele. The Dakkajets pull up and leave to the West. In the intervening 5 minutes, you are able to escape into the jungle and regroup with the assault detachment at a previously agreed upon location on the map.

As always, the question is, what do you do? About your dead trooper, about the orky vox traffic coming through his headset, and about where to go from here?

NPC Mob reduced by 1. Party Glory is now 8/8.

Brunhilde hit the deck a calculated fraction of a second behind her squad, feeling leaf mulch and wet earth splash against her as the passing Ork fighters took out their frustration on the jungle. A harrowing few seconds, comparable to a short artillery barrage but without the satisfaction of being able to order a Basilisk or two to return fire. When the sound of the jets had receded she stood up carefully. As she levered herself up the ground was slightly tacky to touch, and she looked at her glove to see blood. Not hers, Steele thought, unless shock was keeping the injury from registering.

"Squad, sound off! Anyone hit?"

A ragged chorus of replies to the negative except from Corporal Day, the vox operator.

"Day?"

She turned to look for him, and nearly skidded in his slick entrails. He'd been hit with some kind of explosive round, blasting his entire torso apart. Killed instantly, by the look of mild surprise on his face. He'd been right next to her. The mud she'd felt splash her face...Best not to dwell on it. Some detached part of her brain noted that the vox unit was unscathed, and tried to think of this as good fortune. Keenly aware all eyes were on her now, she set her face and composure hard, and knelt down to close the Guardsmans eyes. He was older than the squad average, older than her if she remembered rightly. A family man. Well past conscription age, he'd joined to ensure one of his sons wouldn't have to. She took his tags and disentangled the vox from his corpse, stood and took her hat off to him.

"Damned...Damned Orks. They'll pay for this. For all of it."

A curse, a prayer, a promise, she wasn't sure which. She fixed her hat back on her head and turned back to the survivors.

"The ambush team will be here shortly. We move to the Catachan camp, and then we start hitting back. We'll paint this planet green with Ork blood before we're done.

Pillbug

Scout Sergeant Morovin Khalavak
Wounds 8/8 -- Shock: 7/7 -- Wrath: 3 -- Glory: 8?/8

Morovin emerges from the jungle like a ghost in spite of the massive weight of the lascannon he's helping to carry, scanning carefully with his bolt pistol drawn to clear the way. Once he's satisfied that no orks are waiting near the assault group, he closes in on the Commissar and speaks in a low voice.

"Voices stand out in the jungle, Commissar. Try not to yell unless we've already been engaged. One ork fighter is down, as I'm sure you saw. The rest will fall back for now, but ground forces will only be briefly delayed. You say there is a Catachan detachment here? Excellent. We will need their expertise to keep this many guardsmen alive for long."

Only now does he seem to register the blood splattered across the Commissar and the half-detonated guardsman laying on the ground. His expression and voice do not change appreciably, but it's hard to say whether he's cold or if the staring green circles that have replaced his eyes just can't express emotion.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Commissar, but... expect more. This jungle ate 5 of my best trainees in a month. We can regroup with the Catachans. From there, well, we need a better grasp on our situation before we start making any more plans."

Art thou doubting
your best bro?

First Sergeant Diaz Knutson
Wounds: 9/9 --- Shock: 8/8 --- Wrath: 1/2 --- Glory: :iiam:

Diaz is in close step behind Morovin, though he's so busy plowing through the jungle that he only notices Corporal Day when he nearly slips in him. He grimaces and quickly makes his way to the front of the group. "Aw, gently caress me. Sorry brother." He wipes his face, trying to keep his voice low. "Uh, yeah... Hey ma'am, we're headed West. I came in from the camp, so I'll walk with whoever's on point and keep to cover.

There he is!

Specialist Serafina Aleksandr
Passive Awareness: 6 -- Wounds: 8/8 -- Shock: 0/8 -- Wrath: 1/2 -- Glory: 8

Once the missile flew and the jet started going down, Sera would give Lars a light bop on the top of his helmet, "Good shooting farmboy. Let's get out of here!"

She will take the Launcher and start moving through the woods to the rendeavoux point, where they are confronted with the death of their Vox operator. Unless someone stops her she will take the Vox set, as she has the least heavy equipment at the moment. Armed with a missile launcher and vox backpack, she volunteers for the scout position.

"I will volunteer to go with the forward scouts. Make sure we don't trip over an errant minefield or some other... unfortunate happenstance."

after a great meal i like to lie on the ground and feel like garbage

Sister Superior Fortis
Shock: 10/10 Wounds: 7/7 Wrath: 2

Fortis uses the blessed strength of her power armor to aid in the transport of all that heavy equipment. The strafing leaves her entirely untouched, of course, as the Emperor wills. Not so for the hapless vox operator, though at least death found him swiftly. The prospect of a lingering demise, drowning in viscera, hardly appeals. She says, "The Emperor has taken him on this day, but our fight is not over. We'll need to find allies if we're to find vengeance and uproot this filth from the planet."

it weirds me out that weapon ranges are so short, so double the listed range of all weapons from core and calculate range based on the new values from now on.

im gonna playtest some potential changes to make melee and combat less poo poo/weird.
