Kraftwerk posted:What happens when another player attacks unprovoked? What are the consequences? they're doing crimes Assault and piracy (illegal hatch cracking) are the sort of stuff that your ship automatically calls the cops over. How long they take to arrive depends on the system security level: instant on high, 90 seconds on medium, four and a half minutes on low and never in anarchy systems/the space near anarchist station/other places where the 911 transponder is jammed (class Hazardous resource sites and compromised nav buoys come to mind) committing a murder in places that have cops also accrues a peg of notoriety, a special pilot-specific heat level that goes up to ten, eventually invites the attention of just about unkillable space SWAT and prevents posting bail at interstellar factors until it's cooled back down to zero again scamtank fucked around with this message at 16:27 on Jan 2, 2019 |

Cowcaster posted:yeah as part and parcel of trying out different combat loadouts i've dropped into conflict zones for the first time instead of shooting in resource zones and they seem to have issues. either knocking out really big ships contributes equally as much to the "victory" bar as swatting an eagle or it's grossly disproportionate, you're best off just munching little guys like popcorn instead of spending 5 minutes chewing away at an anaconda. it's indeed the former this is the reason why bringing in ship-launched interceptors is such a bad idea, if you're not careful it's basically free goals for the enemy team

Cowcaster posted:i think traditionally the cobra III has been the starter ship for all the other elite games in the series, but with the way death works in this one they needed basically a "naked" ship and invented the sidewinder, but don't quote me on that. i think the fact that it can do anything at least compentently is evidence for that though. sidewinders were in from the start, it's just that they were ship-launched recon kites too tiny for independent hyperspace navigation dunno what changed to give them jump drives in frontier, but their niche in e:d is credited to how disposably numerous the hulls were and how compact frame shift drives can get

And here's a top tip for srv prospecting: go in the options and make the roles display (center-low) not take focus when looked at you need to target every chunk before it shoops up your cargo scoop, but now you can rapid-fire target stuff directly underneath your buggy and slurp up everything in a flash

geez, I've never experienced a thargoid snoop inside an SRV, that must make you feel right tiny I only know for sure that thargoid flowers are motivated to break you open and slurp up the delicious innards if you're carrying anything that looks like escape pods, meta-alloys or their own tech, though

With a longer look, I'd probably sacrifice one 4t rack to get supercruise assist going on this thing as well The rest of the B-C grade components I can accept as stopgaps, if you're that strapped for smackers right now. Probably the most notable difference you will feel in flight is the crude heat efficiency of that cheap power plant

the main two contentions are the camera controls being much, much slower and stiffer for one, and the visuals including the palette in the UI being hosed ice planets aren't supposed to be piss-yellow in the bar e: oh, the controls have the same wading-through-treacle feeling in the detailed surface scanner probegolf UI too. something they did elsewhere broke the two things in the same fashion scamtank fucked around with this message at 05:53 on May 22, 2021 |

the chieftain is an absolute joy to fly once you've got the lifter-downer-strafer directional thrusters into your spine the thing rides 3-dimensional space like a rodeo clown, even if it is less absolute amount of gun and very exposed thrusters once its shields break
