New specs for the F13 box.

They found a VHS with the full original Jeff / Sandra spear scene!

Can someone answer a question for me? When it says "NEW 4K Scan Of The Original Camera Negative" does that mean one has to have a 4K player to view it?

Nope, just means that it was a very high quality scan, these are just regular Blu-rays.

Nope. They restore it in 4K and then encode to 1080p for bluray.

E: still wondering why no 4K scan for 5-8, esp part 6.

Soon.

Does anyone remember an 80s movie about a shape-shifting alien monster that murders people aboard a spacecraft? I remember reading about it when I was kid so this may be unreliable memory, but it sounded extremely gory and had a weird ending where the monster transforms into a ship and flies off.

If I find it and I'm way off with the description I'll add an update to this post.

edit: it may be Star Crystal, but not exactly how I remembered it:

If you’ve only read about it, there’s a small chance this is the 1987 anime Lily-C.A.T.. That’s the only only Alien ripoff I can think of where the creature grows that large.

I will be showing thematic clips of movies instead of spoiler-laced poorly-edited trailers.

If you dug Four Lions or the show People Just Do Nothing this film is right up your alley. British humor is a specific breed and it takes a little prep work be to able to understand the ethos, slang, and of course the accents as thick as Yorkshire pudding.

But there's no need for subtitles if you can watch Trainspotting without difficulty. It's often the case that movies focused on children fail to grab me because I can't get invested in incomplete people, but this goes against that grade and scores points for doing so.

The genre-pivot from being a goofy comedy into a slasher works well, and the film makes great limited use of some heavy hitters (Eddie Izzard, James Cosmo).

It took awhile for me to warm up to the cast and story, but once things got rolling I found an oddly hilarious dark gem of a movie. I'm glad I didn't save this for October, so I can award it properly as a Walrus Certified Good Time.

Watched this tonight, loved it! Really energetic movie that didn't outstay it's welcome. Felt it would go a lot darker but glad it went a more Monty Python way.

Sticking on 1BR now.

You think you can take me at Satan's Hollow? Go 'head on!
I really liked the October feel of Houses, but I think I would've preferred it as just a straight documentary about "extreme" haunted houses. That part of the movie was the most interesting to me, and I appreciated the unedited footage on the blu ray. Haunt is still a much better take on the same idea though, like you all said.

I had wished my cat wasn't being so needy last night because it would have been a good movie to do just about anything else to, such as paint tiny space mans.

I’d rather watch unedited go-pro footage of people walking through spook houses throughout the country. That would at least be interesting.

I kind of agree with this. I wanted to like it based on a strong first act, but there was a gross sleazy undercurrent to the whole torture and indoctrination segment of the film that didn't really seem necessary or relevant to the overall narrative.

Like, it's thankfully not the sort of movie where there's suddenly a rape scene dropped right in the middle to shock you, but it felt like it was constantly toeing that line.

Maybe I'm off base here but those segments seemed pretty central to the film's idea and needed to be shocking in order to emphasize the dissonance between the image that the cult presented to the outside world and what they actually were. Maybe it could've been done more subtly but I think that would've made the film pretty forgettable.

I've actually started properly working on one my many disparate script ideas.

Specifically the one that's basically 17th century Predator.

A group of men are ferrying a suspected wizard to a place where he can be burned at the stake but on the way they encounter a supernatural being that begins stalking them and the group is split between those who seek the wizard's expertise in dealing with the supernatural and those who believe he is responsible. Drama ensues. Also bloodshed.

Am going to apply to the Icelandic film funds script fund. All I need is two scenes with dialogue and a rough page long synopsis and I can get up to 500k ISK to develop it to a 10-15 page treatment.
