Probably because of the 'vultures are generally considered ugly so who cares about them' train of thought.

The term for the cute animals is "charismatic mega fauna".

Had fun watching the movie stream last night, thank you. I had never seen Krampus, and really enjoyed it. The sound and monster design were great.

Make sure you stick with it because some of the best stuff is towards the end.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for - towards then it just makes less sense then it before. For me, I stopped digging it when they get to the uncle/father house. It just seemed like a different movie out of no where and not as "good", but different strokes...

I had fun watching it.

I dont know if that needed to to be tagged, but just in case.

I actually missed a good portion of the first half of the movie so all I know is the last few minutes had some pretty crazy poo poo in it.

That is an accurate statement, it definitely got nuts, just in a way I personally didn't care for. The last 3rd felt only somewhat related to the first 2/3s. Of course you were talking to Kvlt! and his likes, not me and mine :)

It felt like a Rob Zombie movie (which for me is a bad thing).

If you missed the Bill Moseley scene (with his suitcase full of razors) then you lack the glue necessary to be able to piece this film together.

For me, Home Sick was a Rob Zombie movie but in the best ways. The kills were gratuitous, the plot indecipherable and weird, and it was a cast of nobodies so none of the usual plot armor.

But context is also a big key in the enjoyment of certain movies, and I acknowledge that. I saw it in a good setting, a virtual theater, with a good audience and all these things flavored the sauce positively.

It's a very well-made debut, but felt a little raw and amateurish in parts. That said, I'd take an underfunded imagination joy-ride over a overproduced film made by committee any day of the week.

Yeah, "plot indecipherable" was ultimately my issue. Not indecipherable because of "art" or "depth" but because he had a couple of ideas that he strung together by having the same actors involved. Context is huge, I agree - I had a ton of fun watching last night, but that was mostly the group setting.

For some folks RZ is a good thing, but for me I've not been a fan since WZ burst on the scene in the mid 90's. I saw them in concert(the Ramones opened, and several of my friends were big WZ fans), the show was total mess - he was out of breath and incapable of singing a few of the songs, the band was bored and annoyed - - so my "meh" attitude fell further. I've talked to several people who were at the show, all they remember was the light show. I haven't liked any of his movies.

Anyway - I'm sorry, I just shoved my way into a recommendation to someone else and if I remember correctly Kvlt! is a big RZ fan. Of course this isn't even a RZ movie :)

That "collate a streaming service" line was originally "work in a video store" until I remembered what year it was and that I was old and really kind of miss video stores even though I can't think of a single logical reason why.

It was fun (and sometimes really frustrating) roaming the stacks with friends or solo. Your friend holds a box up high in the air so you can see it over the stacks "What are about Frankenhooker?!" Esp at indie shops with weird layouts or different shelving methods - by director or style. Quirky staff watching weird movies. Personally, I find it kinda dull scrolling through streaming service screens looking for something. Its a combo of what they want you to watch and some algorithm. If you don't know exactly what you want its just painful. I'm sure at least some of it is nostalgia - like the video store next to a liquor store next to a pizza shop two blocks from my aprt in college - it was heaven.

I mean thank christ I can mostly avoid crowded stores, I love the convenience of shopping online but it is souless and dull.

All things equal I think I prefer the tactile experience. I like people, I like leaving my home, I liked roaming with friend as said, I liked chatting with the video store person with my movie selection, I liked picking up a box and flipping it over, I missed accidently wandering into the porn section. Streaming is easier but its also just less of an experience. Do the video store thing, pick up something to eat, head home, pop it in. It was a whole thing.

Then again I remember having to rent each movie for a fee and realize streaming is a much, much, MUCH better deal. But I still miss it.

Exactly!

Ah, the porn section - behind the beaded curtain or through the saloon doors or "Terminator, T2, T3...this must continue around the corner..."
