As Above, So Below... soft 3 and a 1/2 stars. Just kinda meanders into the ending and I was expecting something big to happen too.
If that's the one I'm thinking about isn't it where the group descends through various rooms and things are all spooky or whatever with each room and then going in to the end it starts getting really hectic and eventually the woman is just running back and forth through all those previous rooms and at one point a demon jumps out at her and she just punches the drat thing and keeps going?

I remember being kind of annoyed about it when I watched it but typing it out just now it sounds kinda funny and cool written out. Maybe the execution was off or something.

Skinamarink is such a cool, weird little film. It really captures my childhood fear of static tvs and quiet homes when I was young.
I saw that title pop up in my lists just the other day, but didn't go farther than that. I might need to check it out now.

This week has ruled for movies because I was able to catch both Pearl and Barbarian finally. X was fine, but Pearl was great. All the thread hype about Barbarian totally lived up to it too.

Skinamarink has film grain added in post over the entire movie and whatever they used is a 20 second loop at best. It actually looks like it's 10 seconds forwards and then 10 seconds backwards. It's absolutely maddening once you catch on to it. Easily the worst part of the movie for me. Certainly feels like it's going to be a polarizing movie. I kinda liked what they were going for with this, but I'd be hard pressed to actually recommended it to someone to watch.

Super happy about this post cuz it got me too watch Significant Other after originally deciding to skip it. Definitely a good one to catch.

Yeah, sure. I guess I have time to sit through the entire credits roll.

Also, there's film grain over the whole thing and it's not just the same ten second loop forwards/backwards.

Credits are pretty great. Probably the part of the movie worth talking about the most. I thought the "can you hold it?" line being followed immediately by a close up of a bunch of red flags pretty funny for how on the nose it was.

"Can you see anything?", I ask to my friends while shining a 2000 lumen spotlight in their eyes from 3' away during the middle of the night.

*Axe wielding silhouette on a hill*
"I respect your privacy. I'll just leave my 2000 lumen spotlight turned off so you don't feel uncomfortable."

Really cool how this movie took shakeycam to new and exiting places by making only the tiniest bit of the screen visible at a time and still just loving moving it all over the place.

Soft and Quiet was a really hard watch. I think the creators knew as much too because when the movie muted itself during all the screaming I was already trying to reach the remote and that was the exact moment where I needed a bit of a mental break from the characters as well.

There's certainly a conversation to be had about the contents, but I'm nowhere near smart enough to start that in a proper way.

Count me in on another person that caught Razzennest (just this morning, actually). All in all I really enjoyed it and I'm glad it was mentioned upthread a bit.
I'm with MrGreenShirt in that I got some pretty quick comparisons to Pontypool with this one. Very much a radio play kind of situation too. I'll just mention that I really appreciated some of the humor the movie used with regards to what was on screen vs. what was happening in the commentary. Some of it was low hanging fruit (Nutella) but all in all it worked pretty well.

Strong point in favor of The Lure is when it busts out Open Up Wide by Chase for no particular reason.

I got worried for a sec about Wrath of Becky being a sequel and needing to do the legwork before I could watch it. Then it looked in to it and apparently I caught the first one back in 2020. Great!

The forest chapter of Beau was exactly the kind of cooldown I needed after the first half of the film. I don't think it would have worked as well if I'd watched it in parts, but in the theater just being unable to turn away from that non-stop anxiety it hit at the perfect spot for me.
Kinda funny to me because I watched the first two parts and then had to pause and finish off the movie two days later. Hard to say how it would have changed my perspective. As is I was still pretty enthralled by the visuals and the final joke of part three still landed. The final trial still worked for me even though I was two days out from the accusations being presented. I think the movie really sticks with you for awhile so the break wasn't as much of a break as it'd be with other movies.

Trip report for The Siren. I watched it a couple days ago and liked it. Less "horror" than They Look Like People but very much the same kind of vibe as it. In fact, structurally it felt almost identical to it. The soundtrack is almost 100% music performed by the Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble and it works so drat well. I'm looking forward to When I Consume You.
