It holds up alright. I think the third act after the zombie baby slows down a bit and the dumb love story between sara polly and jake weber sucks butt, but then the whole armored trucks and chainsaw bits really propel it towards the finish line. Snyders best work by far. I still remember when the USA network premiered the first 10 minutes of the movie and that was amazing. My sister recorded it to VHS and we just rewatched it over and over again until the movie finally came out and my mom took us to see it.

Strange Days is great, nice little grungy sci-fi film noir. I wonder what it was about that era that it spawned so many films about snuff movies. You have Strange Days, 8mm, Mute Witness...

I enjoy thinking about things like the psychic pool and psychic damage being shared among society and in a smaller scale, among artists. which is why we see such commonalities between artists and art in the same decades. All those weird shared influences that manifest just at the right time and then all of sudden we end up with a decades worth of end of days films or a decade of slasher flicks because society and the psychic trauma of living through news stories about serial killers build up over time and all of a sudden we have fictional stories about mass killers.

The emergence of the internet, domestic terrorism on the rise and the coming of a new millenium really influenced a whole swath of crazy movies like strange days.

Covid Casino movie night starts again Monday. I have to get a list together. My coworker keeps requesting the early 90s Night of The Living Dead remake and I can't find it anywhere. I have 24 hours of closed casino time to fill with SFW horror. I don't know how he likes slow burns but The VVitch is on Netflix now. I guess I'll have to dig into my Letterboxd list of horror and find programming. I'm really considering running it like a TV station with fake ads and everything. Really anything to stave off the tomb for opulence that is a closed casino.

if you really had the time you could build a PLEX playlist with the movies and commercials all built in there.

looks less jittery on video. I think the embers and flames are making it difficult for the gif to do the uhh giffing?

i think if this were to be redone, you would shoot three different layers, one being the back plate of the flames to get a clean rotation, a plate of the skull melting and then a plate of the foreground flames. Have the last 10 frames of each flame layer slower going down in opacity until the loop restarts and an increasing opacity. flames are tough tho unless you're rendering your own effects version.

Watched The Hunt, and while it wasn't really a horror movie, it wasn't as horrible as everyone had said. I laughed pretty hard in some spots.

It's less of a horror movie, and more of a dark comedy. I still don't get the "trying to build up hype by saying it's one of the most dangerous films ever!" idea that marketing had, cause it's pretty much a paint by numbers film.

I was incredibly surprised that Gary was actually played by the now ripped and buff Ethan Suplee.

Basically everyone was a caricature of a liberal or a "deplorable", and it turns into a political version of You're Next.

with some retrospection, I think it was less poo poo and more just lost opportunity. It's such a dumb film trying to be clever and smart that it misses its own goal by a gajillion miles. I still love Betty Gilpin with every fiber of my being, but she deserves better than The Hunt.
