I just watched The Dreamers and that was a hell of a film to debut in, Ms. Green. :stonk:

Friday the 13th (1980). I guess this is what slashers were for a while? Just people getting killed off and no one even realizes until the very end. Great performance from the lady at the end though

A Nightmare on Elm Street was actually really good, awesome effects, some good humor, pretty creepy vibe

Wall Street and its sequel Money Never Sleeps. The first was excellent; the second seemed like it was treading the same ground as The Big Short while needlessly rehabilitating Gekko. Also if Winnie hated Gekko so much, why did she hook up with a guy in the same line of business?

The Shining deserves all the good things said about it. I laughed at the shot at the beginning with the car driving through the landscape where the camera helicopter’s shadow is visible for a couple of seconds; come on Stan you’re such a perfectionist and you left that in there?

Good movie overall but what the gently caress it didn't end. It just stopped.

Also weird seeing the young guy from walking dead being the grown up dad

Verily, the whip is ghost riding.

New Jack City

I like this movie. Good sound track, stylish costumes. Felt bad for Pookie but knew GMoney was bad news. I also understand the crying wesley snipes meme now.

I watched Tango n Cash the week before and wasnt really into it. I remeber some violence and more than a few gross prison rape jokes. The opener with Stallone and the big truck is a fun bit.

Shutter Island very good. Stylistically obviously borrowing a lot from bringing out the dead which was my first Scorsese and I love it. The editing at the beginning was really something, no room for shots to breathe which I guess was illustrative of DiCaprios state of mind. Nice job Thelma

Fighting with Family was great. I'm the kind of person who loves wrestling in theory but never really watch it and this was perfect for me.

godzilla vs kong was ultra dumb, i haven't seen that much extremely stupid poo poo in a movie since the last transformers film i watched, or maybe king of the monsters. the big monster fights kicked rear end though

can you actually see what's going on this time, instead of taking place while a volcano erupts during a hurricane at night?

Gone girl was very good, made me sweat lol. Was curious where it was going with the different editing in certain scenes so the twist wasn't that surprising but Affleck is so likeable I was still worried for him. My wife and I screamed when the legendary hat showed up

Mortal Kombat. It was okay, the ultra violence had me chuckling. Was disappointed with the fight choreography, I was expecting better with Joe taslim in the mix. Too many dumb game references too

The game references were dumb but what did we expect really. I liked Kano in it. Nobody can replace Tagawa as the real Shang Tsung though.

Evolution (2015) not a reboot of the David duchovny film but more like a stealth sequel to The Lure (2015)

That sounds loving awesome. I was spoiled on it back in the day and was still in total disbelief.

Watched No Sudden Move yesterday. Good cast and some OK performances. The twists and turns were a little ridiculous and hard to follow after awhile but worth a watch imo.

The Hand, the 2004 Wong Kar Wai short. its about getting a handjob so good it changes the course of your life. not my fav Wong Kar Wai, especially the subdued color palette which you don't expect from him

I watched “The Keep” yesterday after Amazon told me I’d like it. I’m convinced it’s algorithm works on promoting things that cost me money. An interesting fantasy piece but just sort of bizarre. Reflective of the era it was made in, and not really what I was in the mood for.

Wasn’t interested in Zola until I realized it was scored by mica Levi so saw that tonight. First time I've been in a theater in months. It's pretty much poverty porn first and foremost so even though there were many genuinely funny moments I felt kinda bad laughing

Pig
I was expecting this to be a John Wick killing spree but with Nicholas Cage loving a pig. Turned out to be pretty heartwarming story about a former chef who realized what's important in life. Surprisingly really good imo.

Wrath of Man
Surprisingly the worst thing in this Guy Richie movie was the banter. After the first part with all the lol women lol gay jokes it turned into a good heist/revenge movie. More like what I expected Pig to be than Pig was actually. Also good though!

Gunpowder Milkshake
It had beautiful colors and the story was good for what it was, which felt like a reason to have nice neon lights and badass fights. Liked this one too a lot! Had a good day watching movies today

Old

The real twist is that M Night Shyamalan provides a realistic answer to the question “what if a beach made you old?”: that it would be used by a pharmaceutical company to test the long-term results of their new medicines on the rapidly-aging vacationers that they selected to come to the resort because of their medical conditions..

Saw Arrival, a 2016 sci-fi movie about a first-contact scenario with aliens and a linguist trying to communicate with them. While I thought the premise was interesting the movie itself was pretty dull. The ending was really bad imo and to me the idea of I know that my kid will have cancer and suffer and die horribly in pain but I'll still have her anyway just feels horrible to me. Not to mention some events of the movie like Abbott dying because of a bomb which they knew about and had ways to prevent it but never did.

I watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure for the first time and it is most excellent. There's something about the crazy stupid and optimistic tone that feels good to see, especially nowadays when everything in our future seems so hosed. Seeing historical people doing dumb poo poo and having a blast in the 80s kinda made me happy :unsmith:

Be excellent to each other
