I have faith that we're getting quite a bit more Kaguya. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if it just kept going until the manga ends, there's enough of a lead right now to comfortably do two more seasons, and even if they put out a season a year by then there would be enough manga road ahead to do a fifth.

I've only heard good things and there isn't really a good competitor that I know of in the proper "romantic comedy" vein, since so many anime veer further towards romance or comedy and this feels like it's right in the sweet spot.

The manga is indeed fantastic and continues to be fantastic but I think a theoretical season four would conclude with the arc that just started. Season 3 is definitely ready for an adaptation though, unlike when season 1 of the anime completed.

The thing is though that in majority of fiction I know if the character like that appears it's always in this specific context, i.e. the main character, an outsider, likes a girl and this girl has an rear end in a top hat boyfriend but only the mc knows that and because of that he's bullied by the boyfriend while the girl remains blissfully unaware and usually unharmed. Whereas in reality the women are the victims. It makes the girl seem like just a subject of contention between the guys and her abusive relationship is mc's drama.

I'm probably overthinking it though. Death to patriarchy and many hugs to Ishigami

Ootomo was absolutely a victim here. She’s just too young to really realise what happened and rationalised it as being Ishigami’s fault her boyfriend dropped her like hot garbage the instant staying with her was more complicated than dumping her.

It would be nice though to see a female character having more agency in a situation that ultimately revolves around her?

I dunno, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine I'm afraid. People get bullied and ostracised in school for all sorts of reasons and this scenario just seems a bit too contrived for my liking.

Ootomo's an airy dumbass and Ogino was a scumbag with a talent for directing the narrative who knew how to milk it for all it's worth. It's not that contrived, especially since it's Ishigami who had the same kind of warped justice as Miko Iino did back in the day.

Yeah I thought Ogino's delivery was maybe too hammy for what the story needed, but I think the main thrust of the story is believable enough.

Wish I was there...
If a writer creates a moderately exaggerated world where someone as heroically benevolent as Shirogane can exist, then logically that writer could also see how someone as manipulatively evil as Ogino (or for that matter, Shinomiya's family) could fit in there as well. I'm not expecting a low-key, sober comedy whenever I fire up another episode and so it goes with the drama; as to how effective it was is wholly your taste, but I feel the situation's nightmarish depiction worked as an extension of the values & tone of the series, rather than an antithesis. It can be argued that the resolution is in many respects a deus ex machina, but the foundation of the show had already established that the StuCo members engage in 5D mindgames in their daily squabbles, so when it comes time to put their heads together & do some real council work, they can accomplish extraordinary things.

It's certainly an odd way to tell a story to, with the catharsis coming about through an alternative pathway. From an outsider's perspective who only consumed the "established media narrative", one person got hurt and the one who suffered consequences wholeheartedly deserved them; the story behind the story would probably be read as some writer's flight of fancy. I think what carries a lot of weight for it, though, is Ishigami's insistent insistence that he wasn't doing it to get rewarded by Ootomo, that he acted extraordinarily in a manner befitting of his strong moral compass mated to a raw, immature sense of justice, a foolhardy but genuine white knight. As to whether he was entirely honest with himself about his own feelings might be different story, though.

Underneath your circle is also a 3, as if to make it any more obvious. The reason the arrow's pointing towards no is probably just an homage to arcade games always defaulting to no on the continue screen.

Next season is gonna be postapocalyptic drama where Kaguya and Miyuki join forces in order to take down Subject F before it destroys the world entirely.

Oh, and an extremely bad opinion icoming, proceed with caution:

The openings were fine, I guess? They fit the show nicely but I don't get why everybody loves them so much

I didn't really have any strong feelings about the S1 OP, but I really loved Daddy Daddy Do. Song and animation both set the show's mood so well IMO

Sindai posted:

I feel like that's something S2 really wildly improved on relative to S1. S1 I was much more interested in the comedy than the romance, and while that's still true of S2 to an extent, there were tons of beats both small and large that gave me a much more specific appreciation for the characters themselves beyond just the gags this time around.

I was wondering if they were gonna get to the broken phone chapter, and the way they did it was a good way to end the season I thought. It felt like Joshikosei no Mudazukai where the climax was in the second-last episode with the finale pivoting back to the primary main characters with a sweet story that goes back to its roots of petty scheming.

They alluded to it in a previous episode but Hayasaka acting like a geek in public is delightful. Ishigami is also a hottie when he cleans himself up; the two of them would probably get along pretty well if Hayasaka can act like her unguarded self.
