The second (and let's face it, final) season of The Punisher should be dropping on Netflix in January. And this time, I think the bad guys are alt-right Christian fundamentalist militia types, which is going to be awesome.

I dunno, it seemed like it might be awesome to have Frank go after CIA guys and PMC guys instead of street criminals but it was pretty dull instead. Maybe that was a result of fully half the cast being ex-marines ex-soldiers and cops, though.

The only thing I know about the Golden Globes is that the punchline for the episode of the Drew Carey Show where he spent the entire episode trying to get nominated for an Emmy is that when he didn't, he went down to the pawn shop with 80 bucks to buy a couple of Golden Globes.

They all thought they were George Carlin, but they were Dennis Leary the whole time.

I finally forced myself to finish Punisher season 2. Punisher Dad was kinda cute but overall I am not sorry to see this show go. I was given so much loving backstory for villains who did not need it, and I cannot possibly understand what they were thinking with that psychiatrist character. Plus Daredevil remains the only Marvel show where people actually understood how to film and edit action.

If Hulu or FX brings those shows back the seasons should be 8 episodes

This take will give me an aneurysm someday. Giving more or less episodes to a badly paced show won't make it paced better, it'll just be a badly paced 8 episode show.

Anyway pacing wasn't the problem with Punisher, it was thinking I give a poo poo about the childhood and psychological makeup of a guy who's entire personality is "has hosed up face and machine gun".

All that extra boring stuff was there to pad out the running time.

This might seem alien to you, but back in the day tv shows managed to tell a complete story within a single episode and didn't have the bad guy from the first episode talk about his childhood for 4 hours to "pad out the running time".

Guy Mann posted:

You know, as great as that extended cut hallway fight at the beginning of Daredevil was I would gladly give it up if it meant saving countless people from wasting dozens of hours on mediocre Marvel television based on the goodwill it earned.

It makes what followed even more frustrating because it shows that they were fully capable of doing good action but just didn't want to invest the time, money, and effort in it outside of making a good first impression to rope people in for the long haul.

I think you're lumping in dozens or possibly hundreds of different showrunners, cinematographers, fight choreographers, editors and stunt men into that "they" there.

Guy Mann posted:

If you're willing to take the positives of latching onto an extant property then you also have to accept dealing with the fallout of failing to live up to the people who came before you.

If you can't slam with the best, then jam with the rest...

I'm fine with judging the franchises as a whole but I take exception to the idea that "they" purposefully made Daredevil good and half assed the rest as some kind of deliberate trick.

If anything I'm much more likely to believe that the Daredevil show was a relatively unsupervised experiment that was a much bigger hit than anyone expected, and the rest of the stuff was greenlit a bit too fast and given to people who didn't exactly have the skills or drive to make something as good, and once it became obvious that it was a golden goose, the entire thing was handed over to Jeph Loeb, aka The Guy Who Makes Things Suck.
