I'm glad Lea wasn't playable.

Anyway, maybe it's just because of experience from theatrhythm but I kinda expect MoM to have a pretty big cast of characters. I'd be surprised if Kairi wasn't in though I doubt there's really going to be much relation between the gameplay and the story so Kairi being the focus probably doesn't mean much.

Same, I tried to keep to Donald being L1, Sora X and Goofy R1 so I didn't get confused but it was too hectic and I got confused anyway lol

We already know Riku, Lea, Roxas, and Xion are playable at least along with a handful of Disney characters so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more where that came from.

I am sort of curious if there’s going to be any actual plot during the Disney worlds though since as mentioned, every cutscene we’ve seen so far involves Kairi back in reality (which seems like it’d create something of a disconnect between the story and the gameplay but we’ll see how it goes).

What we know of the story is that Kairi is exploring her own memories and the memories of others, including Sora, to help find Sora.

Personally my hope for KH3 was having a part of Sora Riku and Kairi.

Not sure why they need what appears to be yet another Data Sora to do that then but I imagine it'll be explained in the game itself (still hoping Kairi herself is playable in some fashion though since this is basically her story).

We're also apparently going to get a bit more of Kairi's backstory between BBS and KH1 as well so that could be interesting. Additionally, there's a scene in one of the first trailers of her encountering the Master of Masters in the Final World.

But yeah, I'm kind of looking forward to the full release if only just to see how this all ties together.

Isn't the entire game just this rhythm stuff anyway? All the characters seem interchangeable for the most part in that sort of setting so why does it really matter if Kairi is part of that or not?

Because they decided to give the game a story and build it almost completely around her?

Gotcha. Anyway, it takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it this seems pretty fun actually. Looking forward to the full release and what fresh new insanity the story mode will inevitably throw at us.

Same. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much but Rhythm Game Good

It helps that it's Yoko Shimamura of course, who IMO single handedly carried the series through its dark age

I never noticed before that there were items on the menu screen you could use. Were any available in the demo?

Also I’m kind of curious if there will be any plot during the Disney worlds or if it’ll just be you going through the motions and occasionally cutting back to Kairi in the real world (we haven’t seen what I’m calling “Memory Sora” outside of gameplay in any of the trailers so far at least).

Items were intentionally left out of the demo, I believe it was mentioned in one of the tutorial messages. So we still aren’t sure what they do.

Not sure about the others but it says right there in one of the screenshots that one of them recovers a bit of HP when you're running low. Based on that, it seems like you can equip them before starting a stage (and you probably get more either via level completion and/or some kind of in-game shop).

THE AWESOME GHOST
Oct 21, 2005

If it's liked FF: Theatrythm you equipped items before a fight and they'd be consumed mid-fight. Potions would get consumed at low HP and heal you, some items would guarantee more damage during fight music or more distance during field music.

In the sequel you could also use them in between stages in the "campaign" mode to heal or give you a buff before you went into a tough stage, or to change difficulties/song selections

Given I'm 99% sure this game will have a story mode where you probably what play through all the tracks in order? It could be either

We’ve literally seen new cutscenes in the trailers and Nomura has hinted in interviews that we may be learning a bit more about Kairi in this game so a story mode is basically confirmed (I’m assuming it’s the World Tour option on the main menu).

Plus this is Kingdom Hearts game, of course they’re going to cram some convoluted story into it.

“But that game didn’t have a number in the title so it must not be important!” - Stupid people

Wait by that logic 358/2 Days would be the most important title since it has the most numbers

Larryb
Oct 5, 2010

Also if you enjoy the series, why wouldn’t you try out a new game that’s released for it? Especially now that everything is available on one console (if you own a PS4 at least).

The only exceptions are the game versions of 358 and Coded (which should really be released digitally at some point) and the mobile game Union Cross/Dark Road (the former of which I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a console remake one of these days with a lot of the fluff cut out from it).

You’d think people would have learned that after Chain of Memories turned out to be directly linked to KH2. Though I suppose releasing them on different consoles and splitting it up between Sony and Nintendo wasn’t great but like I said, thanks to the collections people don’t really have that excuse anymore.

On that note, out of curiosity why did they initially dump BBS on the PSP? It was literally previewed in KH2’s secret ending and is basically Kingdom Hearts 0 so why not just release it on a console first?

BBS came out at a point where home consoles were dying in Japan and also becoming mega expensive to develop for and mobile was taking over as the primary way to play games there. The PSP was also a pretty popular and successful handheld which is easy to forget in the wake of the Vita.

The PSP was a *really* popular handheld in Japan, much more popular than the PS3 at the time. Plus, y'know, cheaper to develop for, especially at a time where everyone was struggling with HD.
