(The thread formerly known as Face Your Fears in KINGDOM HEARTS III, the eighth Kingdom Hearts game)

Haley Joel Osment posted:

I will never forget walking in for the first session of Kingdom Hearts II and seeing that the producers had set up a bulletin board with a flow chart explaining the sequence of events in different universes and watching them almost struggle to sort it out. It wasn't that they weren't knowledgeable, they just were still unraveling the story for themselves and dealing with the huge amount of information Nomura-San puts out. That was when I personally realized how video games had reached the level of art.

Kingdom Hearts is a series of games published by Square-Enix from the deranged, zipper-and-belt-buckle-infested mind of Tetsuya Nomura, known for doing the character design in such masterpieces as The Bouncer and Final Fantasy X. It answers the question, "What would happen if you mixed Disney characters and worlds with JRPG characters and settings?" The answer is an action RPG that has spawned a couple of sequels, several spin-off games and one hell of a convoluted overarching plot.

:siren: First post is a FAQ and latest news about the series! :siren:
:siren: Second post is all previous games including compilations! :siren:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

I haven't played a single Kingdom Hearts game since KHII! Will I have any idea what's going on in KHIII?

To be honest, even if you have played every KH game there's no guarantee you will have any idea what's going on. Regardless, Kingdom Hearts is a weird series in that the numbering in the titles is very misleading. Almost every game in the series is as important to the plot as a "numbered" title. If you want a good overall knowledge of the plot, I would recommend that you play, at the minimum, Kingdom Hearts, Re:Chain of Memories, KHII, Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. There are movie versions of 358/2 Days and Re:coded if you want to watch them. The prequel movie KH χ[chi]: Back Cover is probably going to be important for some dumb reason. Don't worry about the mobile game.

I wanna get into this series! Where should I start?

You can pick up a compilation of literally every game released in the series called Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far on PS4. Note that 358/2 Days and Re:coded are movies, so you can get all the plot without playing them. The games are still available for DS but they aren't super great. There's also a movie called KH χ[chi]: Back Cover that shows the events leading up to the first Keyblade War. It's worth watching because the Master of Masters is hilarious. Kingdom Hearts 0.2: ~A Fragmentary Passage~ is a small stand-alone game that essentially served as a tech demo for KHIII. It shows what Aqua was up to in the time between Birth By Sleep and KH1. I would do them in this order:
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD -> Re:Chain of Memories HD -> Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix HD -> 358/2 Days (movie) -> Birth By Sleep Final Mix HD -> Re:coded (movie) -> Dream Drop Distance HD -> 0.2 ~A Fragmentary Passage~ -> Back Cover (movie)

I need help with a game! What do I do?

Post about it here and I'm sure someone will be happy to help you with anything at all that might trouble you! Please use spoiler tags in this thread as there will probably be a lot of newbies joining us due to the release of KHIII and we want them to be able to experience the insanity on their own time.

Just what the hell exactly is going on in these games?

The plot is very complex and weird and Tetsuya Nomura was basically making it up as he went. Here's a legitimate summary video which people keep saying is very informative if you really want:

While we wait for more news on that game, you can play this in the meantime:

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (PS4, XBone & Switch November 13th, 2020)

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a rhythm game using songs from the Kingdom Hearts series. It's very much in the vein of the Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy games. You can team up with Sora and friends on a World Tour where you will tackle three different types of rhythm challenges: Field Battle, Memory Dive & Boss Battle. Also features a couch co-op mode called Double Play where two players can play through levels and have their scores combined at the end. There will also be a Versus mode where you can battle other players online. Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch is local versus mode and an 8-player battle royal mode.

Kingdom Hearts (PS2, 2002 everywhere, Final Mix 2002 JP, PS3 HD 1.5 ReMIX 2013 everywhere)

After a freak storm destroys the island world of young Sora, (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) he vows to search for his missing friends Riku (voiced by David Gallagher) and Kairi. (voiced by Hayden Panettiere) Along the way he meets several Final Fantasy characters, but more importantly, Donal Duck and Goofy. These two are also searching for someone: King Mickey, who has disappeared. They team up to fight the Heartless, beings made of the darkness who consume hearts to create more of themselves. The Heartless threaten to consume the hearts of all worlds, which only Sora can lock away safely using the Keyblade, a giant key weapon that can open (or close) anything shaped like a keyhole. The trio travel to a variety of worlds based on different Disney films, including Alice in Wonderland, Hercules, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. They travel between worlds on a Gummi Ship, but Gummi Ships also loving suck and are a lovely mini-game, so we won't talk about them. In the end, Sora saves the worlds from Ansem, seeker of the darkness, a benevolent ruler turned murdering psychopath and commander of Heartless. He really really wants Kingdom Hearts, the heart of all worlds which he believes to be the ultimate darkness.

The original introduces the core Action RPG mechanics that have become synonymous with the series. Real time combat of attacking with the keyblade combined with magic spells and special combo attacks have been in basically every game. In addition to the normal RPG level up mechanics, Sora has a variety of Abilities which can aid him in combat or in getting around. It also introduces Item Synthesis, using rare drops from enemies to create really awesome poo poo. These mechanics remain in (almost) every game. Also the first game has swimming which was quickly taken out as 3D swimming controls are uniformly terrible.

The American version of the game had a couple new things like a few optional bosses, Expert difficulty level, and a post-endgame secret movie called "Another Side, Andother Story," that could be unlocked if you jumped through a few hoops. These were added into a new Japanese version called Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, along with a few other things:
- The Heartless are colored differently for no reason.
- Added in a bunch of American-only stuff, including fights with Ice Titan, Sephiroth, Phantom, and Kurt Zisa. However, the first two now yield brand new Keyblades.
- Moved around a few trinity locations, and getting all of them actually does something now (completing the journal unlocks Deep Dive)
- New Gummi Ship missions which were dumb as hell, you have to like meet certain conditions when flying between worlds and you'd unlock silly parts like a giant wheel.
- New attack abilities like Leaf Bracer and Stun Blast
- cutscene and Boss battle with Unknown, which was retconned in as being SUPER IMPORTANT! You see, Unknown is Xemnas and immediately after the battle he walks through a portal, into the Realm of Darkness, and says to another mysterious cloaked fellow, "I've been to see him. He looks a lot like you." (aka the very first thing you see in KHII)
- Special new Heartless that are unique to each world and can only be defeated in special ways (usually a silly minigame) that drop brand new, ultra-rare synth ingredients.
- Extended Secret Movie, "Deep Dive," which hints around at Organization XIII and Roxas a bit.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories (Game Boy Advance, 2004), Re:Chain of Memories (PS2, 2008)

Immediately following the events of Kingdom Hearts, Sora, Donald and Goofy find themselves being beckoned by a mysterious stranger in a black, hooded coat to come to Castle Oblivion, a place where "To find is to lose, and to lose is to find." There he must face off against members of Organization XIII, who are using a mysterious girl named Namine to gently caress with Sora's memories. You go back through weird memory versions of all the worlds of the first game, and then a mysterious new one, before putting an end to the Organization's shenanigans. At the end, Sora has to go to sleep for a while so the memories can be restored. Also there's a second half of the game called Reverse/Rebirth where you play as Riku who has his own story to tell. And also he is fun as hell to play as.

Chain of Memories has a totally bizarre card based battle system which is kind of awkward to get used to but really fun once you get good at it. Unfortunately, it turned a lot of people off to this game in spite of its plot being pretty vitally important to knowing what the hell is going on in Kingdom Hearts II. It was also on a completely different system, so a lot of people skipped this one. Anyway, you have attack/magic/item cards which are numbered 0-9, higher numbers beat lower numbers except for 0 which beats anything, but can also be beaten by anything. You can combine up to three cards to do a combination attack, or a "sleight," if the numbers add up to a certain amount and are of a specific kind of card. It's actually a lot less complicated than it sounds and like I said, once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun.

This game was completely redone in 3D, with voiced cutscenes, and released in Japan alongside Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ for the PS2. It is called Re:Chain of Memories and was released in the US in December 2008. If you want to play this game, play the PS2 version. Do not play the GBA version, there is literally no reason to ever play that lovely game ever again. They even added more cutscenes that weren't in the original and an extra boss fight. An HD version can be found in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX for PS3.

Kingdom Hearts II (PS2, 2005 JP, 2006 US/EU, Final Mix+ 2007 JP)

This game takes place about a year after Chain of Memories. You begin as Roxas, (voiced by Jessie McCartney) a mysterious young boy who lives in Twilight Town and is finishing up the last week of his summer vacation. Then it turns out he actually used to be in Organization XIII and they really want him back. Anyway he goes away and we regain control of Sora, who wakes up and immediately hits puberty. More Disney worlds are in peril and you have to go save them with the Keyblade. Organization XIII is also up to no good, and the remaining members pester Sora at every turn. You see, they are Nobodies, the empty shell that remains when someone with a particularly will heart becomes a Heartless. They have no hearts and therefore feel nothing. Their ultimate goal is to merge with Kingdom Hearts and regain their lost hearts so they can feel but also have superpowers. I think. Their leader is Xemnas, whose real name is Xehanort, who it turns out cast Ansem the Wise into the darkness and assumed his identity, and Ansem (Seeker of the Darkness) was his Heartless. They hope to create Kingdom Hearts by throwing tons of Heartless at Sora who he will kill with the Keyblade, releasing the trapped hearts which then become part of Kingdom Hearts. Anyway Sora saves the day again and mercilessly slaughters the entire Organization before calling it a day and returning to his island with Riku and Kairi.

The big shake up in KHII is that you can DUAL WIELD KEYBLADES LIKE A loving BOSS. Sora can assume Drive Forms, which loving own and turn him into a whirlwind of destruction. This game also adds in Reaction Commands, which let you do different situational moves by pressing Triangle. So basically quick time events, except with only one button so they aren't hard. But they look cool! It also introduces Proud Mode, the new name for Hard difficulty. Gummi Ships are still in and are slightly improved, but still suck.

The American and Japanese versions of this game are virtually identical. The Japanese saw a Final Mix which added TONS of new content:
- Re:Chain of Memories, a complete 3D remake of Chain of Memories with voice acting and stuff. Released in the US as a stand alone budget title in Dec 2008.
- Critical Difficulty, which makes you get less HP from Bonus levels, and the enemies are insanely powerful. You also start with a ton of abilities including "Zero EXP" if you wanna do a lv 1 run!
- Tweaked the levels you learn abilities, and changed around the abilities and stats of some Keyblades. Also there are a few new Keyblades including Two Become One, a Roxas themed Keyblade.
- Absent Silhouettes, which let you refight the Org members that died in Re:Chain and unlock more Bonus Levels and poo poo.
- You now actually fight Roxas when you get to the end of The Castle That Never Was instead of it just being a cutscene, and it is insanely difficult.
- A new Drive Form, Limit Form, which turns you into Sora from the first game, along with all his special abilities. (Ars Arcanum, Ragnarok, Zantetsuken, Sonic Blade, Strike Raid) Also, leveling it up gives you DODGE ROLL!!!!
- New Gummi Ship Missions which are really hard and have ridiculous conditions (like make a ship that fits into a 3x3x3 cube) but reward you with really amazing parts. These were in the original I guess?
- The Cavern of Remembrance, a super hard optional area that has brand new Heartless, tons of awesome platforming that requires all of your Drive Forms to be maxed out, rare items, and ends in a room that let's you refight every single Organization member.
- The Mushroom XIII, goofy Mushrooms that make you play little minigames and reward you if you score high enough.
- A ridiculously over-powered super boss, Lingering Will, who is actually Terra's armor and oh god he's so loving hard.
- If you beat every Data Organization member, clear every Mushroom XIII challenge, and beat Lingering Will, you unlock the Super Secret Movie, "Birth By Sleep." You'll never guess what it is!

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS, 2009)

This game tells the untold story of Roxas's time with Organization XIII. There, he becomes friends with Axel and the mysterious number XIV, Xion. That's basically all there is to the plot. It takes place immediately after the first game, during CoM, and its ending is the beginning of KHII. The game has you completing Missions and defeating Heartless every day, some mandatory and some optional. You revisit worlds from both the first and second KH games and learn a little about what went on there in that time. This is the only game in the series that doesn't have a Final Mix and hasn't been remade. It's also completely skippable, since the plot is pretty minor in the overall KH story.

This game introduced a lot of radical new ideas, like the panel system. You have a panel grid that you can attach things like Gear panels (which change your weapons), level up, item, magic, accessory and ability panels. Each Mission you do unlocks more slots on the Grid, although you can get more Slot Releasers other ways, too. The game also has Challenge Missions, which reward you with Challenge Sigils which unlock free goodies. The biggest thing this game has is multiplayer Mission Mode. Yes, if you know someone else who has this game (yeah right) you can team up to tackle Missions you've unlocked in the main game. You can choose to play as all 14 members of Organization XIII, and also a few hidden characters too. This mode can also be tackled solo, rewarding you with Mission Crowns that also unlock goodies.

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep (PSP, 2010 everywhere, Final Mix 2011 JP)

This game takes place ten years prior to the events of Kingdom Hearts. Terra, (voiced by Jason Dohring) Aqua, (voiced by Thea Queen Willa Holland) and Ventus (voiced by Jesse McCartney) are training to become Keyblade Masters under Master Eraqus (voiced by Mark Hamill). After taking the Mark of Mastery Exam, Terra and Aqua are sent to fight the Unversed, creatures made up of negative emotions, on the surrounding worlds, and to investigate a mysterious boy in black named Vanitas. They are also looking for Master Xehanort, (voiced by Leonard Nimoy) who oversaw their exam but then mysteriously disappeared. You play as each of the three characters in their own separate story line, visiting the same worlds but at different times and for different reasons. Finishing all three stories unlocks the Final Chapter which wraps up the game, and then of course there is the Secret Movie, "Blank Points," which can be unlocked if you meet certain criteria.

This game introduces the most radical new mechanic in the whole series: The Command System. Instead of just having a few magic spells and maybe some special abilities, there are hundreds of Commands that can be equipped and utilized by the three characters. The characters share some commands, but each have their own set of unique commands that match their fighting style; Terra's are mostly brutal physical attacks and earth-based spells, Ventus's are mostly quick attacks and wind-based spells, and Aqua's are mostly devastatingly powerful magic spells. These commands, when fully leveled up, can be Melded with other commands to create entirely new ones. They also have combo finishers, which are performed when you fill up a combo bar by doing physical attacks; again, each character has unique finishing moves. And then there are Command Forms, which you activate by doing certain types of commands. These are extremely powerful and make your attacks and finishers into insanely powerful. The characters share a few, but mostly have their own, unique forms. Another new mechanic are Dimensional Links, which let you use special attacks based on characters you've met in the game and D-Linked with. It also has a Multiplayer Arena.

The American version of this game once again contained some extra content, and so a Final Mix was released in Japan with that plus some more:
- Added the new stuff from the American version (Lingering Spirit Vanitas drops the Void Gear, Unknown fight, higher quality facial animations, Critical difficulty, Skull Board in Command Board, Pete D-Link, Castle Circuit in Rumble Racing, the sticker album side quest, "Destiny Islands" song in Ice Cream Beat, and new commands: Union Rush, Voltage Stack and Aerial Recovery.)
- The Unversed have different colors for no reason.
- Rhythm Mixer Command Style, which is awesome and also hilarious.
- Illusion commands, which are received from doing Unversed Missions that appear in worlds after completing them. These commands turn you into certain Unversed and let you do their moves.
- New Mirage Arena battles: Monster of the Deep, Mentor of Light, and Foresight unto Darkness. The first has you fight Monstro in a really annoying as gently caress battle. The second has you fighting The Armor of the Master aka Eraqus's Armor in an incredibly fun boss fight. And the third has you fight No Heart, which is Xehanort's Armor, and it incredibly hard.
- The Secret Movie becomes a Secret Episode which you can play through. It hints at what later became KH0.2: ~A Fragmentary Passage~

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (DS, 2010 JP, 2011 US/EU)

Following the events of Kingdom Hearts II, Jiminy Cricket discovers that his Journal that chronicled the events of the first two games has a new message that he didn't write. When Mickey digitizes the journal to check it out, he finds it full of bugs and glitches in the form of Blox. To combat them and decipher the message, they send in a digital version of Sora to go through the data. He travels through data versions of some of the worlds from previous games, and along the way meets mysterious characters who probably shouldn't be there. Then they discover something really important, which Mickey then writes to Sora in a letter, the one he got in the ending of KHII. The secret movie, called "Signs of What's Next," is a set up for Kingdom Hearts 3D.

This game combines 358/2 Days' panel system with BBS's Command system to create something extremely unique. There are three ways to customize your Data Sora: Command Matrix, where you can equip up to two commands per slot; Gear Matrix, which lets you choose your Keyblade, finisher, and accessories; and the Stat Matrix, which lets you install panels to raise your stats, learn new abilities, and a bunch of other goofy poo poo. Inside the Data World, there are System Sectors that consist of several randomly-generated floors. These floors have conditions which, if met, multiply the amount of Sector Points you earn which can be redeemed once you finish all the floors for EXP, Munny, or great prizes.

This is a remake of a Japan-only Mobile Phone game called simply Kingdom Hearts coded. While the game is fun as hell to play and has a lot of poo poo to do in it, the plot is really minimal and this game is extremely skippable. That is, if you hate having fun!

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (3DS 2012, PS4 2017)

This game takes place immediately following the events of Kingdom Hearts II and Re:coded. Following the advice in King Mickey's letter, Sora and Riku take the Mark of Mastery Exam to become full-fledged Keyblade Masters. Yen Sid instructs them that if they unlock Seven Sleeping Keyholes, they will unlock a new power. To do so, they have to visit Sleeping Worlds, which are worlds that were previously destroyed and now exist in a perpetual dream state, unable to wake up. Inhabiting these sleeping worlds are bad Dream Eaters, called Nightmares, which feed off of the bad dreams the worlds are stuck in. Sora and Riku enlist the help of good Dream Eaters, called Spirits, which aid them on their quest to defeat Nightmares, open Sleeping Keyholes, and eventually become Keyblade Masters. However, as they travel between worlds, they are antagonized by a mysterious figure in a black coat, who is accompanied by various villains from Sora and Riku's past. Who is this man? What does he want? What connection does he have to Sora and Riku? Finding the answer could be the key to reaching their goal. The secret movie is a preview for Kingdom Hearts III.

First things first, Spirits are your new allies who fight along side you. You create them by combining Dream Pieces, which are dropped by enemies and found in chests. Sora and Riku each have unique Spirit Links, which can be activated in battle when your Link Gauge is full. Riku uses Link Forms, which are similar to Command Forms in BBS and give him more powerful combos. Sora teams up with his Spirits for Link Attacks, which are combo attacks much like the Limits you could perform with partners/summons in past games.

Commands return in this game, but unfortunately there is no more Command Melding. Instead, you gain new Commands and Abilities by leveling up your Spirits and filling in their Ability Link board. Certain abilities are permanent for both characters, but others are tied to the Spirits in your party. In addition to your commands, you also have the new Flowmotion system at your disposal. This lets you literally bounce off the walls any time to perform crazy, acrobatic moves that can either help to reach new areas or attack enemies. It's kind of broken and lets you scale any wall you want Megaman X style, so movement abilities like High Jump and Glide are completely superfluous. Flowmotion attacks aren't as powerful as Commands, but have no cooldown time and can hit a wide area to make up for it.

The last, and most controversial addition to the game, is the Drop Gauge. It depletes at different rates depending on a number of factors, and once it fully drains you automatically switch to the other character, no matter what you are doing. This is to force you to play as each character evenly, and not get too far as one or the other. This annoyed a lot of people who had it activate in boss battles, only to switch back and find the boss's health replenished. Thankfully there are items that can refill your gauge and slow down the drop rate, which are easy to obtain, so plan accordingly!

Kingdom Hearts Union X[cross] (iOS and Android, everywhere)

:siren: NOW WITH ITS OWN THREAD!!! :siren:

According to Wikipedia:

quote:

Kingdom Hearts χ is a prequel to the Kingdom Hearts series as a whole, taking place before the Keyblade War, the event which established the current organization of the Kingdom Hearts universe. The player assumes the role of a Keyblade wielder who joins one of five factions led by Keyblade Masters fighting for control of the limited Light existing in the world. The game's plot is connected to Kingdom Hearts III, the next main entry in the series. The title refers to the legendary χ-blade, a weapon central to the series' story arc.

A f2p mobile game based on the hit browser game Kingdom Hearts X[chi] that is pretty cool I guess. It takes place before the Keyblade War, long before any of the other games. Has something to do with a book of prophecies and the Foretellers who were the apprentices to the guy who wrote it.
The battles are turn based, although the goal is to win each battle on your first turn. You get Medals which are like commands in BBS. You can either do a regular attack to one enemy (powerful), all enemies (less powerful), or spend meter to use the special attack of that medal (most powerful, can give you buffs). You can combine medals to level them up and then evolve them into more powerful versions, up to 6*. Spend jewels to draw medals at random! Spend 3000 jewels to get ten and you are guaranteed at least one 5* medal! Jewels are rewarded in the game or can be bough with real money. A cool bonus, if you spend $14.99 you get 3000 jewels and unlock all of the daily dungeons until the end of the week (Sunday at midnight in some time zone).
You have to be a part of a Union. Choose from Anguis, Leopardos, Unicornis, Ursus and Vulpeus. At the beginning of the week (Monday) they tally up the amount of damage the members of each Union dealt to heartless, and whoever had the biggest total gets a bunch of bonuses. GO VULPEUS!

Kingdom Hearts III (PS4 and XBone, January 29, 2019 Everywhere)

Kingdom Hearts III is the conclusion of the Dark Seeker Saga, ending the decades-in-the-making conflict between the powers of light and darkness. Master Xehanort has achieved his goal of creating the True Organization XIII of thirteen Xehanort clones using the power of macguffins, totally bullshit contingency plans and time travel. Sora must use the power of friendship to unite seven Keyblade masters of light to battle the darkness in a final climactic battle. That's about all we know about the plot so far!

quote:

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX will not only be collecting the "year one" titles and rendering them for HD, but also updating them to better mesh with the newer games in the series. For example, Sora, Riku, and Ansem's physiology models will be replaced with those of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, and there will be currently unspecified revisions to the game scripts to maintain consistency with the overall plot. In terms of mechanics, the controls of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix will be made more similar to those of Kingdom Hearts II, and in particular the "?" command will be removed, while Reaction Commands will be added. Cutscenes exclusive to Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, which were either unvoiced or used English voice acting, will receive new Japanese voice acting, and every cutscene from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, whether it was originally a prerendered scene or used in-game graphics, will be remade for Theatre Mode.

Retailing for $39.99 in NA, 39,99 Euros in EU, and a million Australian dollars, mate.

Kingdom Hearts III COMES OUT THIS MONTH

You do not look terribly noble and yet I feel troubled, attracted, bewitched.

I think my favorite thing about Kingdom Hearts is that the heartless are dark manifestations of a person's heart and nobodies are just empty bodies. They are the exact thing they say they aren't.

I am incredibly hyped right now. Cannot wait to see what weird places KH3 is going to go.

I am also glad this has been forever immortalized in the OP.

I'm still hopin for at least one or two more worlds they haven't announced yet. I'm not super stoked about going back to Olympus

I'm glad that they're at least doing a lot more with Olympus outside of the arena even though they're coming back to it yet again

Because let's face it, even in 2, Olympus was basically there for the Arenas and very much else

Sorry, but I find that incredibly unlikely. It's probably just going to be the announced ones plus SCALA AD CAELUM plus maybe one more super endgame fancy world. I think we've seen all the Disney we're gonna get.

And doing worlds that are explicitly from Non-KH related Square properties probably isn't going to happen anytime soon either. Aside from maybe the final world I think we've seen pretty much all there is to see at this point.

Also, do we know who Xehanort's new VA is yet?

I've seen speculation that it's Peter Stromare.

I'm pretty sure I saw Radiant Garden in that last trailer, at least

I said Square worlds from non-KH related properties but from the same trailer the Realm of Darkness is also apparently going to be a world (complete with playable Riku).

2018 was strangely a year were I stuck with and finished more games than probably any other year, and I put it down mainly to buying the two collections on PS4 at the start of the year. I have to finish Aqua's intro before the end of the month but I purposely left it this late so if I get super hyped or something I have something to play.

I played Kingdom Hearts on ps2 the year it came out, I was 14 or 15 I think, now I'm 31 and getting hyped over a game were Donald Duck and Goofy help a small anime battle hearts with Woody and Buzz

I played through KH1, Re:CoM, KH2, 358/2 (watched it, anyway), and BBS as both Ventus and Aqua over the course of about three months last April through June. I then got sidetracked with irl things and DQXI until a few days ago, and holy gently caress have I lost track of things. It's as though what I played six months ago happened 20 years ago. My brain only retained very basic stuff, like that Organization XIII existed, but nothing about the individual members.

I powered through the Terra run of BBS in a few hours yesterday, and then watched RE:Coded today. Goddam, that was a waste of time. If I had watched only the last ten minutes, I would have learned exactly as much as the full three hours. Though I feel like I'm sort of remembering some stuff that happened before but also not really, which is on theme at least.

Now I just need to get the 2.8 collection and go through that before 3 comes out. Why the hell is it nearly $50? I guess I should just get the $100 all-in-one package that also comes with KH3.

0.2 A Fragmentary Passage is goddamn beautiful to play.

this is the longest pre-order in the history of the world, other than maybe Star Citizen.

I'm guessing you're looking at the PSN store's crazy price. Physical copies of 2.8 are $20 from gamestop or best buy.

The American PSN store is still the cheapest route for me.

Still blows my mind that he's going to be in Kingdom Hearts. Didn't even know the guy was a voice actor, though apparently he has quite a few roles, mostly Spider-Man or parts in D-List kid movies.

tbf the $100 bundle is the same price as getting both the remasters at $20 each. so you wouldn't be saving money anyway unless you got them for less than $40 total

I already own 1.5+2.5 (digital, so can't trade it in), and already owning it doesn't give any discount on the full package.

It would have been a no-brainer if I was going in with nothing.
