The curious case of the missing duck

For those unaware, Mallard Fillmore hasnít posted a new comic in about two months. Itís pretty noticeable given the absolute lack of commentary on impeachment, but I think some strips have had the year quietly changed to 2019.

So...what the gently caress happened?

Hereís the thing about Mallard Fillmore: I cannot overstate just how little a gently caress people give about this comic. He has two pages on facebook, they donít crack 150 combined members, and one hasnít updated since Obamaís first term. The other has no posts. This may explain why the Mallard Fillmore website, which had daily strips and an impressive archive alongside blog posts from Tinsley when he felt like doing extra (spoiler he didnít), is gone and the url just redirects to duckyís daily strip on a general site for cartoons.

Also it should not be surprising that Mr. Eighty-Hours-Of-Research-A-Week doesnít keep up on social media, and his Twitter hasnít updated since March this year. Iím saying this to emphasize the difficulty researching this subject, because Mallard Fillmore is a lot like that sketchy roommate you had for a year or two after college. If it died, practically nobody would notice.

The best I can come up with is backlash from a comic done last August. This one:

It got the San Diego Union-Tribune to drop the strip later that month, the editor saying he hadnít seen a response like this in the past five years.

So, from what little I can glean, itís possible other papers got a similar response, and Tinsleyís syndicate has put the brakes on the comic while they figure out what to do next. Thus, the reruns.

This is all speculation, of course, but Tinsley up and taking a two month sabbatical during one of the biggest events of Trumpís presidency seems unlikely. Especially since his job has absolutely zero effort behind it and I imagine he would take great relish in being able to recycle the same joke about Biden and Schiff every day.

So, itís possible that Mallard Fillmore may be dead, and come January itíll be gone entirely. Or maybe they put him on bog standard sensitivity training and heíll be back ready to hurl venom about that. I know thatís a lot of words to result in no concrete answer, but itís the day before Thanksgiving and I am very bored.

Weíll see what happens.

WE ARE SMART

I like how, while he's in time out for sensitivity, the syndicate continues to run some of Tinsley's patented "race relations as animal metaphors where people of color are represented by savage predators" comics

I mean, it fits with sensitivity training as just appeasing critics with the minimum amount of effort.

Wait, Drunky Duck is in reruns?

Is this thread the only people who pay enough attention to that dumb strip to even notice?

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. That Omar strip is insanely bad out of context, and to get the context you have to be pretty well immersed in the right wing alternate universe, and even then it's still extremely bad.

It would be so amazing if this thread is around to witness the death of Mallard Fillmore, considering how it got started back in LF.

Every once in a while I think about that while reading this thread, and how innocent and pure we were back in the days when we somehow thought Mallard Fillmore was the bottom of the barrel. Gosh. What sights we've seen since then...

has this thread been posting reruns of Mallard and not even knowing it because it's just the same five variants of "IF LIBERALS IN DINOSAUR DAYS THEY'D HUG A T-REX" or "NEW FAD? NEW FAD????? gently caress YOU!!!!"?

If the copyright dates are to be believed, he's managed 13 new comics in the first 27 days of November. It's still strange, but, sadly, Tinsley is not yet dead.

I was straight-up traumatized into leftism by that thread. "Hah that duck sure is sticking it to liberals. Wait, he's saying this stuff, but it isn't true. But... that's not an accurate depiction of events. None of this is an accurate depiction of events! Ohgodwhatamigonnado :supaburn:"

Does anyone have (or even remember) the JR Rose! cartoon about the closing of a local Shoney's, and it's just the Shoney's bear crying while holding a newspaper?

I've tried looking for it but Rose's political cartoons don't seem to be archived in any useful way.

I thought this was a terrible cartoon back when I couldn't make sense of it and thought they were saying that Burisma deserves to be as big a scandal as <Trump is Alive>. And dammit, I think this is a terrible cartoon now that I understand that it's making some dissimilar point.
