How does someone become that servile? If a company that I worked for told us that it was having financial issues, I'd start looking for a new job, not ways of saving the company money.

Upside down on our car

https://old.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/ahy9lb/upside_down_on_our_car/

quote:

And trying to get out of a payment. Long story short, I needed a reliable car 2 years ago for my out of town clinical rotations and my '01 Audi with 200K+ miles wasn't going to cut it. I now have a '13 Chrysler 300 and my husband's friend who owns a dealership sold it to is for the price he bought it at (around $17K) plus fees, etc. so the total loan was just under $20K.

Well, we're upside down, owe a little over $15K and have a baby on the way any day now. If we can get another reliable car and not have a payment, the extra $300/ month in our pockets will be a blessing. We are about $4-$4500 upside down.

Another car that my husband's friend may want to trade/ sell us is an '05 Audi S4 wagon and apparently has drive train issues but is worth between $4-8K (or so my husband says because "it has nice wheels). My husband is a mechanic and owns an auto shop and will inspect it before we make any changes.

So, we may try to go through the friend's dealership, have him take in the Audi and Chrylser, work a deal so we get the Audi, and my husband may have to give up his '76 Chevy to "break even". I just don't want my husband to give his truck up for a 14 year old vehicle when the Chrysler is only 6 years old and less than 90K miles. My husband sees it as getting out of a payment and having a paid off car but we'll be out 2 vehicles for 1 paid off one. His truck is worth at least $8K but as hubby says "it's only worth what someone will pay".

I'm sorry if this is long and doesn't make sense. I will clarify if anyone can give me some basic advice. The car is in my name only and my dad cosigned for me for the best interest rate and because I didn't have credit.

Fast forward about 10 or 11 months he decided to stop paying for it and forced my to take over the note, cause if i don't it would ruin my credit. I'm hoping you guys and gals can help me figure out how to get my name off the note/loan. Note: The family member's credit is not good cause of student loans. Don't know if this matters.

quote:

You are 100% responsible for paying this loan as a co-signer. If he cannot refinance in his own name and is not paying the bill, I highly suggest you repo the car as co-owner and sell the drat thing. If he can’t pay the bill, he doesn’t get to drive it.

Luckily ,since he doesn't have a license, he can't drive it. Got suspended because of unpaid tickets. His SO was suppose to drive him around but they broke up and she wasn't paying for it so we took it back from her

Co-signing for a coworker for $1,500 and plans to refinance.

https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/aqxm6y/cosigning_for_a_coworker_for_1500_and_plans_to/

quote:

Alright folks, here's the spiel; There's a gentleman at work (in his mid 40's or so) who just finished court proceedings finalizing bankruptcy. He had some outstanding medical bills in collections from when he was a youth, and not the most successful or wisest kid around. He now makes over $20 an hour, is never late to work, has never called in, is well liked by all, and plans to stay at the company for a career. To highlight the character of this individual he even runs a charity organization that provides low income families with Christmas presents for their children.

He's offering to pay me $1,500 if I cosign a loan with him so he can get his wife a new vehicle, on her birthday, now that they're no longer struggling. He plans to pay $2,000 a month on a $16,000 SUV, and says he'll refinance the loan in his name, removing me from the cosigner agreement.

I'm wanting to file my income taxes, take my savings, and the $1,500 so I can either get a first time buyer loan on a house, or just get a standard apartment with my fiance. Without the $1,500 I'll have to wait months to move my 28 year old self back out of my parent's house.

I understand the risks involved, but I'm a fair believer of this individual's integrity. What advice do you have for me?

It’s about $27 filled all the way up and i have to spend anywhere from $275 - $320 a month on gas, it’s ridiculous! I pay for my own gas and maintenance (and i’m sure you can guess how much maintenance i have to do on a 36 year old truck). I make $9/hr and work 25-32 hours a week. I just don’t know where to turn. I don’t know if i should get my parents to co-sign on a loan, if i should just apply for a loan, or if i should just suck it up and run the drat thing till the wheels fall off. I would sell it but the trucks been in the family so long part of the deal me and my dad made when he got it for me was that i couldn’t sell it. Any advice would help. Thanks so much!

How to fix my credit?

Hey everyone, my first post here so I’m sorry if I’m making a common post. I’m 22 years old and my credit score is in the 500’s. I have a few accounts in collections and two open credit lines, both maxed out. The only problem is that these aren’t my credit cards, my mom used my social to get credit in my name and now she isn’t paying them off and it’s making my credit score plummet. I’m not sure what to do about it. I don’t want to report her and maybe sent to prison? But I’m trying to move out and get a nicer car in the near future and it’ll be way simpler to do that with a good credit score. I’ve always held a job, currently working full time with the same employer for two years. I know how to handle my money but my mom screwed me over. Is there someway I can close these accounts?

I wouldn't want to go to one of those presentations because, as has been said, a lot of people who think they're too smart to fall for it do fall for it. But I'd be really interested in seeing a recording of an actual successful session. There's got to be some bizarre moon maths involved to make a timeshare seem like a good idea, probably along with some unpleasant pressure tactics.

It's not really a scam, it's just a terribly bad deal, in the same way as a 20% auto loan. You buy the right to live in a property for X weeks per year in exchange for cash up front and an obligation to pay part of the running costs, but when you realise that you're paying way more than what that right is worth to you, it's impossible to get rid of the timeshare and the payment obligation.

Okay, so what would be the optimal way for the inlaws to gift them a down payment without taking on too much risk of their own? Because obviously their end is: if we give them a check for $200k and then she splits the day after they close, she'll be taking half of it (I'm pretty sure - California is a community property state). The trust protects them from that. Is there another option that would protect them from that risk and also put her on the title? I'm looking for an alternative I can offer without talking too much poo poo on her inlaws.

I've also considered going to her husband to talk with him about it because he's really the person who would have to tell his parents nope on the trust idea. Apparently they've done it before with their other kid. Or I should probably just stay out of the whole mess altogether - her family is pretty well off anyway so I doubt she would ever be turbo hosed even if she lost her house that was never her house to begin with. But dang, you know, she's my friend and I really want her to not put herself in this position.

Also all tree law posts are fake and there's so many of them now that it's boring af.

Is your question "how can I help with the downpayment if I don't trust that hussy to not run off with all the money before the ink is even dry - in a way that doesn't look like I don't trust her"?

The Supreme Court once had to look at a similar case where there was a tariff in place on vegetables, but not fruit, and they decided that a tomato was legally a vegetable because it is commonly considered to be one, even though scientifically speaking it is a fruit:

I wish there was a mechanism under judicial review to send legislation back to its originator with a "fix this, you idiots" requirement.
