Blue pants with a black jacket isn’t a bad look but the Army dress uniform looks like a clown show to me. It’s also pretty awesome that I don’t remember specifically what that dress uniform is called. Maybe my brain is scrubbing the army away.

I decided the army wasn’t for me when I sent my dudes home to be with their newborn babies and got yelled at for taking the trash out instead of making my dudes sit around and doing nothing waiting for 1sgt. And THEN I went to Camp Casey.

i joined in 2009 and got out in 2014. the ways people smoked weed changed drastically and blew my mind. dabs are not bongs. my cousin let me hit his dab rig and i kept waiting for him to pull the bowl out so i could inhale the smoke, not knowing i was inhaling smoke the entire time. if you've done dabs, you know how much of a problem this is.

I have random dreams about deployment or patrols in a random non-Afghanistan place. I go through cycles where I’ll dream for a few weeks and then I won’t dream for several months. These days though most of my “nightmares” are about something happening to Monty. I went through a phase of deployment night terrors but they were so consistent for so long that I got used to them and they don’t really bother me anymore. In fact, I would look forward to the dreams because it meant I could hang out with my friends that died.

I think someone made the comment in the IDR thread that he should have lied about having some lovely staff job because it would actually be believable.

When we got back from Afghanistan our BC said we would be getting three days and four days and life would be pretty easy for several months. We were back in the field within 30 days. Someone was ballsy enough to bring it up to our (new) 1sgt and he said “I wasn’t 1sgt when he said that” and we went to the field.

If I give it too much thought, I feel legit guilty about my deployment. We accomplished nothing except a high body count on both sides. A lot of broke people and broken families, and a lot of carnage and death to the locals. And if the US were invaded by a foreign military (a legit one, not a republican contrived one based on racism) you know what I might do? Set some roadside bombs or shoot at them. But hey at least I got college out of it, right?
